Jags v Spiders

Another pathetic attacking performance. 2pts from QP and ICT. Wilson needs to give his head a wobble if he thinks Samuel and Watt will win us a league title. We could have played for another 90 and not scored - tippy tappy pish to the wide areas. And anyone who even has half a clue about football knows that Samuel hit a purple-patch last season and won't score even half the number he did last season.

We really need another in the mold of Steven Craig.

(Not a solution, but how can someone who never plays like Diack be eternally injured?)

Worth mentioning that we have Henderson to come back it. He'll score a few imo.. On the plus side I've seen many thistle teams dominate games like that only to lose a goal ourselves. At least that didn't happen..

I couldn’t make it to the game today so I can’t comment on it.

But if the Thistle fan who at full time told my wife that he’d “kick her f’in head in” would like to get in touch, we can arrange to meet up at a future game to talk about your conduct.

We need a striker. Simple.

We needed a striker this time last season. 12 months on and still no sign of one. I'm gonna say it every week. League is there for the taking. We would be sitting on 12 points if we'd focused on the front line and not packed the squad wi right sided defenders and central midfielders.

Horn away on loan. Diack might as well be as he'll never get a run.

I'll be staying away til we start scoring. A season of turgid nil nils and 1 nils. No thanks. Glad Tony watt never phoned me midweek.

How about getting Ceiran Loney back from Everton on loan?

Canny be any worse than what we have.

Just a random thought.

Not the answer as I highlighted in the Squad thread.

'His league tally last year was 10 in 36

He got 9 in the first 17 and then 1 in the last 19 and that was the last game of the season.

He got 2 in 36 over 2 seasons with Hamilton in the Championship.

His best returns have been in League 1 with 10 in 31 and 14 in 28.'

If he/she can be identified (CCTV?) then a sine die ban is needed.

Regardless of the lack of striker, this team really needs to sharpen up in attack. Counting from the (often unreliable) BBC stats, we seem to have had 19 corners - but not scored once. That indicates a serious lack somewhere. (To my unpractised eye, short corners against an opponent that is packing the box are completely ineffective, and can even result in losing possession.) What conversion rate from corners is the target?

Then there are the tactics close to the end of the game. If the opposition is parking the bus, playing from side to side, even in the opposition half, just spends playing time unproductively.

Instead of concentrating on scoring the winning goal, the team tried to provide a show of attractive football. There is a time and a place for everything, but league position does not depend on moral superiority, and now we're 2nd in the league because we did not play to the conditions. Maybe we're seeing the disadvantage of an inflexible belief in attractive football, as if that were an end in itself.

A wee reality check today I think. Yes, it’s early days but it won’t just be QP that come to Firhill this season and sit in. Total domination of possession but no cutting edge.

Ok, we hit the bar and there were a few near things, but if we are serious about winning the league we will need to be better. Ok, some players still getting up to speed but It’s been clear for a few weeks that we need another striker and maybe another no.10 (unless Henderson can fill that role?). Whether we have the money or can get the right one remains to be seen.

I think if Samuel scores in the first few minutes we go on to win comfortably. In fact given the lack of attacking intention from QP if we hadn't entered their penalty area again the 1-0 would still have been comfortable.

But not scoring given our absolute dominance highlights our most serious problem. I believe Samuel can be an effective impact sub but not a starting No 9, certainly not as a loan striker. Tony Watt is what he is and that ain't an out and out striker.

To me it looks like we'll have to accept the status quo at least till January. Create as many chances as possible and hope our midfielders can be more clinical than today. Of course we've got a day or so to sign a 15+ goal striker. One that'll cost next to nothing in transfer fee and play for a pittance of a wage. Shouldn't be too much a problem arranging that.

I thought we played well enough in the first half but failed to make the sharp passes which might have seen us 4 or 5 up. Queens defended their box well with lots of bodies but made no attempt to score - McFarlane's only activity was two headed clearances..

As in the second half against Inverness, it looked like the opposition had worked out a plan to stop us making chances by cutting off space and crosses from Drodz & Fitzy - we don't seem to have other lines of attack.. Samuel & Watt are not as effective as last season and there were no game-changers on the bench.

I was surprised to see from the game stats that we only had 19 corners....we didn't look remotely like scoring from any of them.

If we can find some more imagination and cutting edge the League is surely winnable.

The game wide average is a goal every 3 in 100. Even accepting the emergence of set piece coaches and teams being corner specialists, it'll still be single figures out of 100
