PTFC v Ayr United

Recommended Posts

Watched a good bit of the match last night and was happy with the result. From what I saw if they get their act together Livingston could still be a threat. Don't really mean to disrespect Stenny. We go head to head soon, so we'll find out more about them shortly. A win today and we help distance ourselves from another fancied team as well.

Share with most our worries about lack of goals. If we create half as much chances today as last week and still don't score that worry will become a serious concern. It's easy to point out that Samuel and/or Watt are not exactly goal scoring strikers but we have a good few midfielders capable of getting into scoring positions. They need to be more clinical. But as long as both Aiden and Seb are on the field they can't both be double marked without creating gaps in the Ayr central defence. They get subbed and we still haven't scored (or got a lead) then things get more difficult. Feel we're really missing Henderson in that respect.

Imo Ayr will look to keep the game tight. After last week if we don't score i can see the crowd getting nervous. Hopefully we can get an early goal and take it from there. Stenhousemuir doing great, but should have conceded at least one penalty. If Livingston don't improve, wouldn't be surprised if Bartley returned as their manager.

You know what we should do? Try another five or six side to side passes and another feeble daisy cutter through-ball before we decide to shoot. That's worked so far, so let's keep doing it. And while we are at it, what about another brain fart back pass that puts us immediately under pressure. Nothing puts you in a better scoring position than scrambling back to cut out a counter attack or failing to defend a lobbed free kick.

Y&R bang on the money.

While we're at it, can't we figure out a way to get a right-sided centre back, put O'Reilly on the bench and put Loughran on his stronger side? The central defence looks vulnerable like this.

Hmmmm. Another very weird game. Plenty of touches in the opposition box but never looked like converting any of them. Cue Drozd tripping over the ball or playing a daisy-cutter, and Fitzy not doing much better. And for all that Smyth was touted as being the cog at the middle of the midfield machine, his movement and lack of central/forward passing reduces everything to a pass to the wings.

If it wasn't for that diddy Harry Stone, that would have been another two points dropped. Beginning to think that another striker wouldn't necessarily be a solution on its own. We really need to be more centrally threatening either through incisive passes, or Crawford not blasting the ball over the bar ever chance he gets.

Happy with the 3pts, but MW really needs to get that forward line clicking.

I still wish we could play Bud

McFarlane has done nothing wrong never mind anything that would warrant being dropped. 1 goal conceded in 5 championship games. Seems to me the defence, even with a few changes is solid. It ain't broke

Thought McF had a good game today. Looked more confident under the high ball

Quite a frustrating game but we were in control for the majority of that game.

Nobody really played poorly yet nobody stood out.

I think a few players are still getting up to speed for various reasons. Stanway, Watt and Samuel look a bit off last season but I’m confident with games they will come good.

I think we look fairly solid but lack a bit of creativity. I’m not sure if it’s a number 9 we need or more a creative midfielder who can take the ball from midfield and drive forward.

Our centre mids are all decent but very similar.

Ayr weren’t great but I think the players should take credit for shutting them down.

The game was a bit dull but I’d take a season of 1-0 home wins if it means winning the league.

Strange to a point that I think Loughrey may make a better partnership with Ashcroft. Just O'Reilly won every header in the second half (and there were plenty). Thought he ran Reading close for my MotM.

Imo we played better last week, the big difference this week is we scored, Watt unlucky with his header that hit the bar. Don't get the negative comments regarding O'Reilly. Glad we were the only team to register a goal on our new  scoreboard. Next up a top of the table game against Stenhousemuir.
