Why do I have the distinct impression you hope we fail ?

Why would I go to Firhill on a Saturday if I want us to fail - stop talking rubbish - expecting standards and simply shrugging our shoulders when we don't meet them is what leads to mediocrity

Being stuck in the Championship isn't what I want for the Club - we should be in Europe

We are too ready to accept Poor Standards - off the Park & On it

The New LED Screen will illuminate the Stadium & Surrounding Area with such Brightness that we will no longer need Floodlights ~  future Space Travellers will look down  in Wonderment at the "Stadium Of Light" replacing Perth in Australia as the City of Light 🙂

Now, now we are not at home to Mr Sarcasm!

On a more serious note, I would assume given the age of the current floodlights it would be a case that changing them to something more up to date would be in the category of one off cost for a reduction in the annual costs?

Back to Mr Serious 😀

the key issues are ability to get Bulbs and spare parts due to there age which will be becoming difficult

Energy Running Costs

Meeting the various required criteria for lighting levels - which vary on what the status of the Game is

Replacement is a one off cost - things like that are normally spread over a CAPEX allowance of 2-3 Years

If all we achieve is Play Offs & No Promotion then there are fundamental issues at the Club - as we have not moved forwards

...

We are by far the Strongest & best resourced Team in the League & are widely accepted as favourites to win the title

I'd question the compatibility of these two statements. If indeed we are "by far the strongest and best resourced team", then those overseeing the club have surely done their bit.

And failure to get promoted would therefore not be due to "fundamental issues at the club", but simply the team being unable to fulfil its potential.

I disagree - we don't need a Sporting Director or a Recruitment Director ( Gerry Britton and before him Maxi covered these roles ) those two Salaries Combined get you a very good Striker-  which is the difference between promotion and being stuck in this league - by “best” Im referring to amount of money spent - not if  its spent wisely

that same principle can be applied to multiple decisions on spending - its all about priorities

we cannot keep being the nearly men - its a mindset thing of low expectations - off the park and on it

Back to floodlights, I've long wondered whether the vast surface of the JH stand roof (and maybe even the main stand roof) would be suitable for solar panels. I've seen tennis courts that get lit that way, albeit it admittedly in a sunnier country!

Arbroath should be looking at getting a wind turbine installed at Gayfield, they could probably power most of Angus!

Wind turbines on the Bing might be more appropriate

We need Floodlighting in the Winter when Sunlight is limited and battery storage has a limited time period

Regardless of how desirable solar panels might be, the JH roof might not be best oriented to gather appropriate levels of sunlight (or just ambient light) especially in the winter given that it slopes back in a north-easterly direction.

It is interesting to note that many traditional grounds in Scotland have their main stands to the south and/or west of their pitches - presumable to face away from both the traditionally prevailing SW wind as well as the sun setting in the west (when it's not otherwise raining). The JH is in my view somewhat plagued by setting sun and windblown rain but probably nothing as bad as the old covered terracing was during the Clydebank game in January 1971 - seldom can so many have been accommodated in such a small space!!

Enough of this meteorological/scoreboard nonsense - it was 1-0 on Saturday (as it was against the Bankies on that very wet day back in 1971).

I believe you can sell excess back to the grid, cost though of installation and potentially strengthening the roof may make it a non starter

We only need floodlighting if we and the SPFL persist in the archaic 3.00pm kick-offs on a Saturday - a legacy from  a time when everyone worked 5 1/2 day weeks.

What about night games in midweek?

During the Miners Strike in the 70s you couldn't play midweek evening Games due to the Power Cuts ~ we got over 12,000 at Firhill for a Scottish Cup Replay on a Tuesday afternoon with a 2 pm Kick Off

Worst post of all time, despite all the other rubbish posted on here and every other social media site in the world. Obviously I'm exaggerating. But 3pm on a Saturday is football time. Sacred

Tell that to BBC Scotland and every other broadcaster!

TBH I'd be fine if teams agreed earlier kick offs on weekends. Even 2pm in the middle of winter would mean the floodlights won't be needed.

The advertising around the ground, especially pitch-side at the south end has increased significantly even without the advertising on the score-board.

And this scoreboard could be a nice little earner if we fill these minutes.  45k a game plus vat (if my maths is right)

It would be £45k +VAT in total this season. You get 1 minute per game for the rest of the season for £500 + VAT.
