Dunfermline request postponement 25Sep

From the Courier:

Dunfermline have formally requested the postponement of two Championship fixtures due to international call-ups.

Pars midfield duo Alfons Amade and Allan Oyirwoth have been named in their national team squads for matches later this month.

It is expected Shea Kearney will also be included in the Northern Ireland U/21s’ set-up for Euro qualifiers.

With the potential for Sam Cleall-Harding, Dylan Lobban and Andrew Tod to all be in the Scotland U/21s, as well as John Tod in the U/19s, the Fifers could be missing as many as seven first-team players in the coming weeks.

As a consequence, the East End Park outfit have been in contact with the SPFL to ask for their games against Partick Thistle on Friday, September 25, and Stenhousemuir on Saturday, October 3, to be rearranged.

Under the circumstances the request seems reasonable so I have no problems with this.

However, given that modern football is now a 'squad' game perhaps there needs to be a standard set, for example, no postponements allowed unless more than 2 first team squad players are required for international football fixtures!/squads.

Comparison could be drawn with the number of player clubs hsve who miss games every week through injury. In our case 2 or 3 every week this season up until recently.

Setting a standard could help progress the season as scheduled, help minimise the risk of fixture congestion and avoid unnecessary mid-week where attendences are likely to be lower than a corresponding fixture played at the weekend. An obvious economic  benefit for clubs.

I think there is a standard which is 3 players away on international duty.

This essentially is the rule already. It’s set out in SPFL Rule G7.

This is good for us as we will have a couple missing as well. Will need to play Arbroath without them though.

Ironic if Ben Stanway gets called up when I feel he isn't back at his best yet.

Is Ferdo still eligible age-wise for Scotland u21s?

I would assume Liam McFarlane is a shoo-in for selection.

Same for Paddy Reading with the seniors 🤪...

Saving grace we're not losing another Saturday fixture.

I feel that the home club should be compensated for having to rearrange a game because of postponements due to international matches and for that matter cup games also. Not sure how it would work if several international teams are involved, though. On another note, our game with Dunfermline was scheduled for the Friday - was that meant to be a TV game ?

Be interested to see if a club forgoes applying for postponement due to likely loss of income (thru attendance hospitality etc). This being a Friday night fixture probably little if any financial difference switching to a likely Tuesday night.

From what I can see were almost certainly out, we are 3 points behind the Czechs, they've got 3 games left to play, we've only got 2 and they've got the head to head tiebreaker over us.

While Stanway and McPherson are eligible for these last two matches, I'd assume they're too old for the next tournament as both born 2004.

Depends on whether Docherty wants to try and play his strongest team regardless, pick up 6 points and hope the Czechs bottle it,or plan for the next qualifiers with players who will still be young enough I guess.

Last season the rationale for Stanway not being picked was that he wouldn’t be eligible for the next tournament. McFarlane must be in the same position as they are same age - both birthdays in September. They will be 22 this month.

ETA - maybe it was McPherson that was going to be too old.

McPherson & McFarlane called up to under 21 squad:

https://ptfc.co.uk/ptfc-news/mcpherson-and-mcfarlane-called-up-to-scotland-u21s-squad/

Dunfermline have 3 players in the squad as well:

https://www.dafc.co.uk/news/2026/september/16/triple-scotland-u21s-call-up---tod--lobban---cleall-harding/

So I take it that means the Dunfermline game will be postponed but the Arbroath game will go ahead but we will be without Ben and Liam.
