joejag
So, apparently Paul cairney away to Hibs. If so, best of luck young man.

Junior
Heard this from a Hibbee m8 the other day , dunno if its true. Would be a big loss if he does move but a great move for him.
Trotter
If it's true then good luck to the guy but truthfully I reckon he could do better than a club like Hibs. When you look at guys like Dobbie and Harris- ex QOTS- going down South, trying their luck and now playing in Championship (Premiership earlier in season for Dobbie) you realise there is a lot of potential in this league. Personally the Paul Cairney I watched in his first season with us and again this season is better than our league and standard but then our standard not to far away from a Hibs. More money sure but lacks ambition for me. That said, would wish him all the best wherever he ends up. Been our most consistent player this season by an absolute street!! uberteeb
There's no denying Hibs are a big club, allbeit one with a keech football team right now, don't blame him for going if true. We will be able to find a reasonable replacement either from the youngsters or somewhere else, we'd find it much much harder to replace Doolan, we need goals. Would be interesting to see what our best contract offer was for him. Do we have anyone on a decent wage these days? You'd think it might have been worth it to tie him to a longer contract, build a team around him with a chance of challenging for the league and worst case scenario get a fee for him next summer when we inevitably don't get promoted. Cairney is our central player at the moment, there's no denying that. But that's largely because JM demands that just about every move goes through him, so he has more opportunities to make his mark. When he's running and flicking with others he's terrific, and he has dig, but he cannae jump and he's incredibly slow to work up pace from a stationary or standing position. Not sure if he'd shine in the SPL, but good luck to him if he moves on. Agreed that Doolan at the moment would be a bigger loss, though I thought that McGuigan looked like he had potential when he came on. Yeah I agree with that, my comment was basically saying losing a good midfielder is not as bad as losing a good striker, particularly in this division. I would still have given him a decent wedge to stay though. With Cairney, Doolan, Erskine and our full backs we have the makings of a not too bad attacking unit that with a couple of additions and a change of manager could form the basis of a team sniffing around the title next year. lady-isobel-barnett
To me Cairney is almost stuck between a rock and a hard place. He's undoubtedly playing above the league he's in and the right age to transfer to a higher league team. I think tho' he lacks the pace to really make an upwards move a complete success. You can point out players slower than Paul that do or have done well in the SPL or other leagues that are slower than Paul. I feel tho' the position(s) he plays and his type of game require him to play at a higher level with more pace. Also his stamina, which never used to be in question, is maybe not quite what it once was. Obviously Paul will jump at the chance of playing for Hibs or whoever and I wish him every success and to prove my doubts wrong. He certainly deserves the chance to make more money than we'll be able to pay him.
