1 John Lambie
Is it not more likely to be he asked for a trial & we said yes? Might be that we are interested if he shows up well in training but no harm in helping players out to get fit who are looking for new clubs. Also, you never know when you might need a favour from a player throughout the season if he doesn't get a suitable deal somewhere.
Armand2
Like others, I suspect Trouten has gained an invite due to Paton and possibly even Cairney putting in a good word. No harm in having a look at him to see if he would fit into our system. He had a great season with Queens Park and probably wishes he signed for us when he left them instead of club-hopping for the last four years. He won't be the only one invited to training. Armand2
A post P&B claims Scott Robertson is going back to QotS. Â Although it looks increasingly likely that the big man won't be re-signing, I doubt he'd go back to Queens; he wasn't very well thought of there for one reason or another. Had also heard him being linked with a return to Stirling which would be a shame as he's shown he can play at a higher level than that. Had also heard him being linked with a return to Stirling which would be a shame as he's shown he can play at a higher level than that. Could it be he wants to play part time? Maybe he's joining the Dumfries & Galloway polis . Surprised if he's taking a step down as he's only mid twenties. Still young for a centre back. Â I see a similarity to what happened with his namesake last year at this time when we "monitored the situation" and John Robbo couldn't hang on with uncertainty of getting fixed up. I can only guess that McNamara has to hang on to part of his budget while he chases up other business. Â One thing's for certain we need another right sided centre back. Even Conrad's greatest fan would acknowledge he can't be expected to play week after week with no competition for his position. At this moment the idea of us playing to a default three centre back formation looks a bit remote.
Alan Murray
I think Scott Robertson would be a standout in division 2, particularly if played as part of a back three. Â I think Jackie wants to bring in somebody in with more experience; the suggestions of either Keddie or Canning make sense to me. We were too much of soft touch last year and bringing in Hugh Murray and one the center backs I mentioned would go a long way to solve this. Â We are also too vulnerable if Archie gets injured and Canning or Keddie in the squad would ease these concerns. Â Sad to see Scott go though, he played well for us when he settled in to the back line. Edited June 8, 2012 by Alan Murray

It's questionable he'd have been playing at the level he has if he wasn't left sided. I haven't heard too much about Hamilton fans being upset at losing Canning but I agree his experience could make him a worthwhile signing. If tho' we're continuing with three centre backs we really need at least one of them to be a goal threat at set pieces and ideally be able to play up front late on in a game when called upon. jagfox
Balatoni would probably be seen in that role. Canning would be a decent shout but is he much better than Scott?
Dark Passenger
Canning is a left-sided CB, if I remember correctly. Also, I was speaking to someone linked with Hamilton yesterday and they said he still has aspirations of playing in the SPL next season. Members Willjag
"McNamara content with his defensive options" Â Oh well. Disappointed with that. Scott Fox better be on to form next season! I suspect Paul Paton will be getting a key role at the back next season in a back three. He must be the only other experienced defender we have at the Club now. Archie's tending to pick up more injuries and suspensions these days so I'm astonished we aren't going for more experienced defensive cover. Dark Passenger
Ditto. Â To me, calling McAleer "one for the future" means he's cheap filler and a gamble with the little wages we have left.

Jackie has done this previously. Said he doesnt have the budget for a player then signs someone else in the same position at a later date. I think its his way of not burning bridges with players/agents.
Mediocre Pundit
In defence we have O'Donnell at RWB, with Paton and Campbell able to cover if required. We have Sinclair at LWB with Bannigan and Lindsay able to cover if required. And we have Balatoni, Archie, Lindsay, Paton and Muirhead competing for the three central positions. That's reasonably versatile, albeit I wouldn't want to rely on the fringe players too much. As said above, I'd like one more central defender, but I think it's fair to say that the 'options' are pleasing.
Ancipital
We'll probably also bring 3/4 folk in on loan over the course of the season as well.
