  1. Dunno, but it was a cup replay at Love Street and pretty sure McCoy got a double. I thought the game at Firhill v Hearts was 0-0 but could be mixing that up with the first tie against St Mirren that you mentioned.

He certainly did, and John Mitchell got the other. I'll never forget the 3rd, a spectacular flying header, though we were in the St Mirren end! We went with a St Mirren fan pal, didn't really know where we were going, paid to get in thinking we were able to get to the away end, or at least a neutral place, and we ended up there..... Stupid tw*t. We had the last laugh but had to cover our scarves. An interesting experience but it was a joy to see the away end dance. We were 2nd bottom of a division below St Mirren too, and they'd won it only 2 seasons earlier, but Lambie had recently arrived so better days were coming.

The next round saw a less pleasant 2-0 defeat at Tynecastle. We were there but the team might as well not have bothered. Thought we were on for a replay at one point but then John Colquhoun did us in. Oh well.

An unrealised ambition is to see us win after being 2 goals down. We did that at Fir Park once, but I wasn't there. Saw a 3-3 v Clyde at Firhill once though, after being 3 down.

    I was at Metz though.

  2. You would have thought that, but for some reason, its gone all quiet on that front, and there seems to be a distinct lack of movement and public proclomations on it. Wonder why.

There's plenty of time, surely? I can't imagine that they'd let the 11-1 stand. The old firm media would not want to be talking about it just now I guess, hoping it will magically be forgotten about, but surely.....

  3. And the crawling media is the same as ever....

Today's Sunday Herald had a predictable and tedious piece on a certain SFL3 club that was 4x the size of the total coverage given to 12 games in the League Cup (which produced 50 goals in regulation time). Better still, the footnote to the article had a phone number which readers could call to purchase a season ticket for said club....

It's a shame in the current situation that Scottish football finds itself, that the Sunday Herald didn't put similar contact details for (any of) the other 41 senior clubs......

I often buy the Sunday Herald but never really saw it as biased, that's why I buy it instead of rags like the SM (S&M more like) but reading that piece yesterday has me questioning ...

I thought it was outrageous. I might even complain officially. Maybe we all should. It's not something that I've done before till I decided to after an idiotic and childish comment by Gary Lineker on the beeb last week, about how we'd all be glad how Team GB had 2 medals but Germany hadn't won any yet. Sums that silly little man up really, but it did make me think that if we never complain then we only have ourselves to blame. Of course the complaint was batted back, saying it was just a humorous comment, but the Sunday Herald can't claim anything like that so...let's get to it.

  4. Now don't throw anything at me please, but they never did fulfill their promise of Thistle tartan scarves. I did my best but I got p*ssed off with it and gave up. I still love the idea though, but learned that diy is often the only way to go. Disappointing though maybe we can still do our own?

  5. Alright, he's maybe not a celeb but former news reader Alistair Burnett, who just passed away, was a Jags fan alright. I remember him winning an 800 Club prize once, but especially him reading out midweek fitba scores. Most memorably "THE Thistle!" when announcing a 1-0 win at Somerset and refusing to call Meadowbank the same.

Royal sycophant perhaps, rightly lampooned by Spitting Image, but he was still one of us and that's rare in the media, especially UK wide. A kind and generous guy, by all accounts, who loved a dram, I'll always remember him fondly. He may even have passed on some of his Jags leanings to Trevor McDonald as he sounded like a fan when he announced our big score against Albion Rovers. I lived in Dundee then and the internet didn't exist yet so Sir Al and Trevor were vital sources back then.

    RIP Mr B.

  6. Sorry if it's been muted before, but why is there even a discussion about Dundee replacing Rangers int the top flight? After all the financial crap Dundee have been involved in, twice is it, in ten years going bankrupt ? and, as stated, they are the 14th best team in Scotland, Dunfermline 12th, talk about falling in the Clyde and coming out with a salmon in your pocket!!

If any of the other teams had thought that 2nd place could lead to the SPL then the end of last season could have been a different matter. Typical. It had to be Dundee...grrr

Mind you, the SPL might not be such a promised land just now. Maybe they're welcome to it and I won't miss them a bit.

  7. Apologies if somebody pointed this out already, but if the newco do get voted into Div 3, assuming that they keep going, isn't it obvious that league reconstruction will be right back on the agenda anyway? That could knock a year off their theoretical return to the top division. No brainer surely, and all the more reason not to swallow their stinking bait tomorrow. Am I missing something or why would any lower league club fall for it?

  8.

    Well done indeed!

Contrast that statement with Beattie's cop out this morning.

They said they're against newco for Division 1. So have we, finally. They said they're up for reconstruction, while we suggested that the SFA should step in, and presumably move to reconstruct so I don't see such a big difference between our stances. Some of us are still having a go at DB though. I think he said what mattered, no to newco. Beyond that the rest is....who the f knows? Rumours of the SPL postponing a vote though? Are they waiting for the SPL vote? What could then happen is we postpone again, waiting for them and it.....we spin into limbo. In which the SFA would have to step in....

Gawd. I despise Rangers, because that's what they will continue to be. They've poisoned us all, but I may be walking away before it gets to it. Whatever DB ir anyone else says. The domestic game is tainted beyond repair, I fear.

  9. So keep paying money into a fixed leauge? Guess I'm not a "fan" then. Tell me what makes you the "fan" ? Would you put a bet on a horse race or a frame of snooker if you knew it was a fix and you had no chance of winning?

I would never dream of judging peope who stick with thistle no matter what, I wish i could but I'm afraid this would be the end with a heavy heart. Iv that means I'm no "fan" then so be it.

Our Dumfries bro spoke well. Partick Thistle represent much for me, and I'd find it hard to go on if we support this blatant corruption and blackmail. I'm already in the doubters camp, and fear my heart has already left the building, but still hold out hope that we, along with the other clubs, do the right thing. If not, they can save goodbye to my gate money, and other monies, including my monthly direct debit, and the merch too. We'd be a busted flush and I'd find many better and more worthy things to concern myself with. Would that mean I'm not a fan any more? So be it.

  10. I've seen us lose to Clyde more than once, but not like this. I echo what others have said already, the Clyde statement is as spot on as anybody could expect. Well done the Bully Wee.

Has anybody posted this on any Clyde forum, or Pie & Bovril perhaps?

  11. It's clear that our club is a shambles in more ways than one. Aside from the newco stance, which I disagree with completely but could at least be argued, shoddy treatment of a loyal fan like that, not even bothering to spend £1.80 when he's spent hundreds....

No excuse for that at all. I'm fast losing interest and love here.

  12. So, with Ballantyne and Findlay at their helms, we know how Airdrie and Cowdenbeath would vote then. Imagine Clyde being a positive force for once... How I wish we would stand up to be counted. What's the phrase, something like bad things happen because good people do nothing? None so blind as those who will not see.

  13. I honestly appreciate anybody taking up "thankless tasks" like this. Been there, done that. It does make you wonder why anybody would bother, a bit like being a referee in a way. Whatever, trying to form a concept of "one" Thistle does seem like a tall order, but thank f some people try. In the meantime, and aside from the acidic newco effect, people start walking away, and some might not come back. Rangers have the numbers to afford that but we don't.

  14. Astonishing. It's so ridiculous that I can hardly believe it's for real.

I'm a confirmed "newco to Div 3, at best (for them)" but thought there was little danger of anything else. Now I'm not so sure. One thing would be sure though, and I've not actually thought this until right now,but if this gets allowed through, then I'm done with domestic football, unless we reject it and end up on the losing side,in which case I might just keep the faith, in Thistle, but even then.....

Despite the SFA involvement I would still support the national team, as I don't directly link the national team with the SFA, but I'd be unable to have an ounce of belief in the Scottish leagues again, ever.

The thing that also needs saying is that every Rangers fan I've spoken to wants to go to Div 3 too. Not that the guilty should get to choose their sentence, but it underlines that ALL FANS WANT NEWCO IN DIV 3 (at best). Without the fans we have no game, so that's all I need to weigh up.

The one doubt in my mind would be, would another bunch of people at the helm at Firhill have taken a different course? Whatever, I'd have lost interest by then, so those in charge right now have my future as a Jags fan in their hands, right now. Please Mr Beattie, don't let me down and force me to walk away forever, because I will. I mean it, and so do many others.

Is this the end, beautiful friend? Please, no.

  15. At the weekend, I sent an e-mail to the Board (it's below). I was furious then (and still am) so perhaps could have done it better with a calm head. Nevertheless, the sentiments are unchanged - if Scottish football is to have any credibility, any new club must start at the bottom. Would we be happy to accept Spartans into Div 1 in the manner suggested ? And no offence to them - they're more deserving ......... If there's any truth in this, I've got a bundle of things I can do at the weekend instead.

I’ve just read the Statement that you posted on the web-site where you offer the opinion that the current troubles at Rangers are nothing to do with Thistle, and also that any media reporting to the contrary is speculation. That appears to be contradicted by an article in today’s Daily Record which suggests that discussions have been held between representatives of the SPL, SFA and SFL ‘chiefs’ aimed at thrashing out a deal that sees the New Company / Club that is likely to replace Rangers being parachuted into Division 1.

I don’t set much store by anything I read in that publication but, given that the law of averages suggests they’ll get a story correct eventually, I’d like to let you know what I’d expect to happen if that were the case. Quite simply, I’d not only expect Partick Thistle to vote ‘No’ to this proposal, but I’d expect the Chairman to publicly go on record in the same way that the Hearts and Dundee Utd chairmen have done on the subject of the New Club’s application to the SPL.

My father took me to my first Thistle game (a 2-2 draw with Clyde about a month before the 1971 League Cup Final) and while I don’t currently have a season ticket, I reckon I’ve averaged about 25 games per season over those 40 years. That will end forever in the event that Thistle put cash before what is right for Scottish football and collude and conspire in the ripping-up of the rule book, simply to accommodate an entity which cheated it’s way through the past decade and a half. If the roles were reversed and we (or Falkirk or Morton or Montrose or any other team) had committed even a fraction of the crimes that have been documented, we’d have been back playing amateur football months ago.

You might argue that the financial benefits are too great to ignore. While I don’t think a sport can even consider putting money ahead of rules and integrity, even if you do the numbers won’t add up. Thistle might get a small slice of the TV pie for a year and perhaps benefit from a couple of bigger gates but I’d be interested to hear what your projections on those are. The days of Rangers and Celtic attracting crowds of 25,000 to Firhill are gone. Is it worth selling our soul for a couple of 9,000 gates and £50k (or whatever) from TV ? It might be worth considering how you’d budget for the day when / if they’re back in the SPL and gates drop back down, not to 3,000 but to 500 ? You might think that’s overly dramatic, but I think it’s conservative.

I urge you to take into account the views of the fans. This may be a rant (sorry – I’ve got angrier the more I type and think of other strands) but I’m certain this is a view shared by the over-whelming majority of Thistle fans, not to mention fans of other SPL / SFL teams. We are at a cross-roads and you have the opportunity to become involved in the biggest positive change in Scottish football for generations. You must not allow Thistle to make the wrong choice – if you do, you soon won’t have a club to run (and that would break my heart).

    Vote No !!!!

If this was Facebook that would get a Like for sure.

  16. I'd just like to say at this point, that I'm loving how Neil Doncaster can't do a d*mn thing any more to preserve his holy grail of 4 ugly sisters games per season, the mangy tail that has wagged our dog of a league structure for so long. With Rangers demise goes the 11-1 stranglehold though I'm not celebrating until it's happened, until the ugly sister with the face transplant is shown the door and told to go away for at least 3 years.

Happier days in prospect, but I hope and pray that nobody chickens out, and that our chairman holds his end up, the way we want and expect him to, because we are the club.

  17. Secondly, I suspect that the proposals to allow them into the First Division are really to help the remaining SPL Clubs...that's the Clubs who have failed for years to make any meaningful changes to the League structure...and the Clubs who made up rules to force Thistle to comply with Stadia Criteria and then vote us out. Motherwell went into Administration, signed two of our best players, avoided relegation because of Stadia Criteria then voted to relegate us the following season. We have spend years in the wilderness and they are in the Champions League...Why should we help them out?

Thank you for saying the above. Much of my faith in our game died when Motherwell did that. Were able to. It's never been the same since. Look at Motherwell since, and us. I've longed for their relegation since but never dreamed that Rangers would crash and burn first.

Pity is, I still don't care as much as I once would have. It's not a sport any more, to me.

  18. I've not logged in here in ages, but I'm doing so now, just to say thanks, and good luck. I spoke to you once or twice, and shared an email or two, and have to say that you're a credit to yourself, your family, and the club.

Thanks so much, and the very best of luck for the future. You'll surely go far, but I hope your heart remains at Firhill, in football terms anyway.
