  1. Impression I got today was that he's taken the foot off the gas a little. Probably been told by McCoist he'll be in contention when he comes back and doesn't want to get injured...

    I think I'm catching your drift. McCoist probably realises they is a chance they are heading into administration and could lose a few players.

    So he has told Hutton to take his foot of the gas and to tip the wink to half the Thistle side to do the same when they come calling.

    All fitting into place now, thanks for that!

  2. I know he's not everyones cup of tea, but you cannot deny what an amazing career he's had. Most people talk of the success at Man U, but his achievements at Aberdeen were amazing too.

    To still have the appetite to do that job after all these years, football has changed a lot in 25 years, and he's changed with the times. The different teams he's built and players he's discovered/improved, it's just been an amazing success story. I grew up watching the "Fergie's Fledgings" team coming through, the team that won the treble in my opinion is the best of the lot.

    Thought he made a mistake at the time, when he postponed his retirement plans, but he's proved me wrong with all his success since. Really can't see him getting the better of Barcelona though, and it'll be difficult to win the league with the money Man City are throwing around.

    Have to agree with the above comments, love or hate him no one can deny his achievements. For people with short memories that say it's easy to win things when you have so much money to spend, should look back to what he did with Aberdeen. He proved his credentials there by putting the ugly sisters in their place winning:

    3 League titles;

    4 Scottish cups;

    1 League Cup;

    Cup Winners cup;

    European Supercup.

    leagues and cups and culminating in that great triumph over Real Madrid to lift the cup winners cup.

  3. Balatoni is shite. He plays fine for all but 1 minute of each game, but makes one mistake that costs us almost every time. Should've seen it coming on his debut at Morton when he chested a corner down for Stewart Kean. We'll never compete at the top with those two playing CB.

    There is no denying Balatoni has not had a great season, however he had a good game today. There were a few occasions where he made clearance headers that had he not managed to get a head to, would have had us in trouble. Also he was very alert making some telling tackles.

    So if a player begins to play well give them credit for it, rather than spouting blinkered views as you made up your mind you don't like them. Hopefully we will see this type of performance more regularly and if so, he will be a big benefit to the team.

  4. :wall: Very disappointing and frustrating performance and an opportunity lost to tightening up the league.

    The only ones that can take something out the game were:

    Scully - couple of stops to keep us in it.

    The back four, minus one... Paul had a bad un!

    and Cairney who chased and harried all tried to make things happen.

    Alas the rest of the team failed to appear, though maybe a little unkind to Dools was was probably the closest of the rest to getting pass marks. Unfortunately, playing County with half a team is not good enough to take anything from a game. :wall:

  5. The obvious replacement for me is Bannigan. Rowson has been able to go forward more because Hutton has played a holding role in midfield. I can see Bannigan doing the same. AND he's actually a Thistle player!

    Bannigan for me too, IMO he'll turn into a very good player for us. Yes, expect he'll give the ball away at times, though see his midfield play similar in the mould to that of a good striker, someone not frighted to miss but always willing to be there for the next one.

  6. Hutton's tweet - For those who have asked really enjoying Partick thistle but looking forward to going back to rangers in December!

    Tweets

    Looks like he doesn't want to stay.

    You can't blame him for looking forward to going back, though to be fair he has also been very clear he has enjoyed his time with us. He's done us a good turn, and would gladly welcome him back if ever the opportunity arose.

  7. If you're wanting to compare Messi to Maradonna nothing is better than this clip.......amazing

    Cheers - I've seen that clip, spooky when you think about it.

    For me these two stand a wee bit ahead of the the other great players I've been lucky enough to see.

  8. Thistle - Chico

    The other one depends on if we are talking about the best single performance you've seen live or just the best players you happen to have seen. For the former I saw Thomas Rosicky single handedly destroy Slovakia in a Euro qualifier, never seen one person play so well and dominate a game, totally in awe of him. Seen loads of players who would go down as world class, Bergkamp or Henry being personal favourites.

    Agree on where you are coming from here. Though went for Messi as first player since seeing Maradona at Hampden that was a lightbulb moment. Both I believe were 17 at the time I saw them. Maradona was already touted for a future great when he turned up with Argentina to give Scotland the run a round, though Messi was still a bit of an unknown quantity here.

    The game against Osasuna was one of his first starts for Barca. He did not score and had a high and wide effort, however the way he went past players for fun was incredible to see. You just knew you were seeing someone special, so much so I called my brother right after the game to tell him I've just seen someone that is going to be sensational.

    Not great quality but here is a video of his performance.

  9. I disagree. You can say that because you've seen the video the picture doesn't suggest anything. But if the picture was all there was and 100 neutral people were asked whether in view of the rules they thought it was a penalty, I'd bet on a "Yes", and that's because there is a suggestion of contact.

    Edited to add: I've just looked at it again, and it looks even more like a penalty to me than in did before! Easy to see why the ref gave it.

    Very few fans around where I was sitting thought it was a penalty, if anything it looked more like one when Cairney went down earlier.

    Certainly fell in to the soft category, though bu66ered to know why we arguing over it as we have been done in the past and will no doubt be again.

  10. Being in London last Saturday, had to depend on the 'Just In ' thread for a description of the game. Seemed to be mostly doom and gloom - we played badly, were lucky to win, players scraped through against 10 men. But - the highlights tell a different story.We seemed to make plenty chances(even before the Douglas incident) and could have won by 2 or 3. Of course the highlights may be selective in what they show of the game, but the very downbeat tone of the contributors to 'Just in' seems hardly justifiable on the evidence. Are we becoming a tad over-critical?

    Nope!

    Weird as it sounds we were looking good up until we scored. Unfortunately we went into our shell after that and basically invited them on to us.

    For those there, there was a sense of an inevitable equaliser just around the corner, punctuated by some breaks where they had next to no one at home defending. So yes, chances came our way but it was a game we never had under control from when Cairney put the penalty away. (Well maybe a couple of minutes towards the end.)

    In a way, a little reminiscent of our display against Queens when we won after a very poor display.

    Were we happy bunnies at the end? too right we were!

  11. "You couldn't control an erection" shouted from the terrace at Colin McAdam many moons ago.

    Made me remember some guy shouting 'someone should get that guy a satnav for xmas' to Erskine, when he mis-controlled the ball last season up in Dingwall and ended up going about 20-30 yards towards our own goal.

  12. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!

  13. Thistle: Rough for me too!

    Other: Messi (though a close call over Maradona.)

    Scotland v Argentina, think it was 3-0 going on 10. First time I saw a Scotland crowd applauding the opposition for giving us a severe humping.

    Messi playing for Barcelona against Osasuna, when on a wee holiday.
