  1.

Does anyone know what kind of deal he's on? I'd agree with l.i.b, that if he's on a generous wage then we certainly need to consider funding other areas of the team where we're far shorter on bodies.

That said, it may be the case that he's on little more than a standard "up and coming" youth contract. If that's the case then he'd perhaps be a risk worth taking.

My god, he was chuffin dogs against Culter though :P

FFS you mentioned Culter again Grimlock! Surely ancient history by now.

Give Balatoni some more backing guys - was not so long ago we used to watch Wille K through the gaps between our fingers

  2. Archie's contract is up in the summer and while he has been a superb player for the club, his best days a clearly behind him. He's not the quickest any more and after two very serious injuries perhaps this summer could see him hang up his boots and go into coaching.

Now without writing Archie off, as this is not my intention but should Archie stop playing I've a suggestion for taking over as club captain.

    Paul Paton.

Now I know Paul's contract is also up in the summer, but what I witnessed on Saturday I think he could make a very good captain. He seems to excel in his new role in the team, protecting the back four. He offers plenty of encouragement to his team mates and shows plenty of drive and determination. I also noticed in the changing room, that Paul seems to be the voice in there. Some of the lads are quite quiet. Paul seemed to be the one with the drive, humor (oh and if you ever have a family member/friend who is mascot and you find yourself in the changing room, take ear plugs......Feck the music, and i use the term loosely , the lads listen to is just awful).

Paul may well be playing for a new contract, if he gets it, he could well find himself being the leader of the squad.

Good shout mate I would say, my boy was the mascot in the home game v Dundee and he vas very vocal. Apart from him Paul Cairney is the only other obvious shout for me! Certainly not Scott Fox..........good keeper but he is sooooooooooo quiet!! :sleep1:

  3. :wall::wall:

    Confirmed in today's Times

I'd be happy to keep him.

Likewise mate thought he was really good as was Archie on Saturday - why are both getting pelters?

Has anyone looked at the goals against column in the league table - i would suggest the issues are still at the other end and we should be scoring more goals

FFS archie is a Jags legend and Balatoni for a guy on a loan gives 100% to the cause

lets forget about Culter now - its done with!

    :wall:

  4. Most of my family are central belters like yourself. Interestingly I find their accent as offensive as you find mine

On the Jimmy Calderwood issue, the quality of football played in the last two years of his tenure was pretty abysmal even if results were only declining gradually. It was, just simply, time for a parting of the ways. Every manager has a shelf life. The problem was in his replacement, the abominably abysmal Mark McGhee, Aberdeens worst ever manager (even worse than Alex Miller....). It'll take a long time to sort the mess he left behind.

Are you upsetting the natives Grimlock???

What will happen when Aberdeen do go down and play Thistle next season (unless of course we pip the League title!?

Will you loyalties be divided?!!

  5. Its time for Jags to vacate Firhill and get a new ground that suits our size and ambition!! Been said a zillion times before, but we keep coming back to it!!

    Au Revoir Firhill!!!

Thought our ambition was to get back into the SPL??!! If we do we would need a ground the size of Firhill.

Where would you suggest we build a new ground not that its is going to happen?!

  6. Totally agree it`s time the away fans were put in the JHS this saves money and would hopefully generate an atmosphere,at a time when ever penny is a prisoner this is a no brainer

Sorry, disagree, we already have two sides of the ground 'empty' so to have a third empty to me makes for a worse atmosphere!

We have had some good away supports this season, Celtic, Dundee and Falkirk all brought good numbers although Livi certainly did not

Think if we want kids and families to continue to come along etc think the present set up is the best way. Kids get their own area and away from any away fans and any issues that possibly brings with it.

Finances are important but should we not be looking at ways to attract more fans and boost revenue rather than looking just at cost-cutting all the time??

  7. Have we really been creating lots of chances and missing them.. not so sure about that? Yes the strikers need to step it up but have felt from Day 1 this season we need a creative midfielfer who can open up a defence regularly

Rowson is a tidy passer yes and Hutton can hit a pass but mainly of a square nature and anyway he goes back to Rangers soon,Cairney has had a really good season to date but he is a different kind of player and after that think we lack that type of player.

Do we all agree and if so who perhaps can we bring in come January?

  8. My preferred team would be if all fit for tomorrow

    Scott Fox

    Paul Paton

    Robertson/Balatoni

    Archie

    Aaron Sinclair

    O,Donnell

    Hutton

    Rowser

    Cairney

Erskine - just let him play behind Doolan - up and down we know but best man for the job still IMO

    Doolan

    Subs

    Scully

    Elliott

    Robertson/Balatoni

    Dargo

    Campbell

I would not have Stewart in the 16 nor Bannigan if all are fit

Guess however one or two will miss out hence they may figure.

But if we 3 points they can Hinchey in goal for all I care!

  9. Well at the moment(last 5 games) we are averaging a goal a game if you include Culter but also not letting any in. Livi have 10 but again 6 were in the cup and they have conceded 7 in their last 4 league games.

So unless we go for a nil nil, there will be goals. I just hope we manage at least one more than Livi.

    Fox gk

    Paton cb/dm

    Balatoni cb

    Archie cb

    O'Donnell rwb

    Sinclair lwb

    Hutton cm

    Cairney cm

    Erskine am

    Dargo cf

    Elliot cf

  10. I know what you mean, but the final results suggest in fact that we are not more than capable. It sounds as if we have Fox to thank for coming away with a miserable point last night.

We are, in a word, rank. Looking forward to Saturday, though!

God, real inspiring stuff ahead of Saturday, cant wait now for my 2 hour drive from the NE on Saturday ahead of the Livi game. Maybe I will take the boy Xmas shopping instead! Nah....I be will there. We really need the points now but the goals have dried up and confidence still seems low from what I have seen. Looks like another mid table season at best after high hopes in October!

Maybe time to shake the team up - seems to be too many 'shoe - ins' - whats the news with any potential signings in Jan window??

    Cheers to all!

  11. Martin! You ought to know better than to ask about our £130,000 profit ... sorry ... £46,000 profit ... sorry, modest loss. ;) I'd like to know if the Invisible Man is going to chuck a few bob from his £250m sale of Asco the club's way. I doubt it and I can't blame him.

Doubt it mate, the money will be reinvested in the business. I stay near Aberdeen and used to work for ASCO but in fairness he put some of his own cash in previously and having met him personally he is a proper Thistle Fan.

I heard a rumour his house up here was up for sale in the summer and he was returning to the West of Scotland but that has proved unfounded.

On a another note hope you all enjoyed the Culter replay - the first game was like a "home match" for me, twenty mins fron the house.

God did i feel sorry for you guys who had travelled from Glasgow - really was awful!

  12. :) :) :) :)

Opinions Alan, not rubbish. How about we address your weekly 'team' thread where you regularly move players way out of position. I would never call it rubbish or dismiss it, although I do find it mildly amusing.

Balatoni is a clown, and particulary against weak opposition (berwick/couter) gets found out.

Ach get off the boy's back! At 20 he is just a boy and still learning. He has probably due to injuries to WK and

SR had to play more than perhaps the manager would have wanted

Compared to other loan signings we have had he has a good attitude and decent abilty, confidence seems a bit low at times and needs yet to be more decisive but had he not basically "slipped " for the goal (watch the highlights if you were not there on Sat)doubt if this thread would have been started.

Plenty other guys let the team down on Saturday but to pick almost solely on a 20 year old boy is not right.

Hope he gets a chance along with the others to redeem himself! :)

  13. The only implication on this thread was that those with kids would spend more than the punter who turns up on his own and pays £17 as quoted below.

Those bringing kids to the game already benefit from the club more than any other group of people due to the kids go free scheme but yet again it's those with kids who benefit from the incentives to try and get more people through the door. It's not only those with kids who are either priced out of going to the game or choose to spend money elsewhere but unless you want to fork out a little less for hospitality than usual for a game that the club has decided the hospitality has no chance of selling out for then you've got no chance of getting any sort of decent promotion like parents do. It's fair enough having someone with kids getting in for £17 just like any other person going but to make it cheaper and not do any sort of incentive for those who don't bring kids to games is a bit of a joke.

The wording of the advert regarding other Glasgow clubs is embarrassing as well considering it comes directly from the club and comes on the same weekend that Rangers are offering 2 adult and 2 kids tickets for £20, a deal which offers better value for money than this one does.

Ach dry your eyes, the club did not need to do anything, they already offer decent value against other grounds and they are only trying to get more bums on seats in the lead up to Xmas. An expensive time for every household!

They should be backed to the hilt on this - bring a mate along or work colleague with kids if its really such an issue! :)

  14. Wouldn't it be easier for the club to just make it a £10 for everyone as kids always go free? And advertise it as a family fun day? That way you may get families along 2 adults and 2 kids £20? Cheap day out! You may also get a few students along looking for a cheap way to spend the day?

I am not sure find it a bit unfair that I shall have to pay £17 cos I don't so happen to know any children!

Believe me it will cost you less at £17 than taking two kids to the game even at a tenner at the gate!

The club know what they are doing but lets get them credit, they try really hard with familes and kids and other clubs should take note

So should all the idiots who were complaining about the prices for the Culter replay. The cup is an exception and the club dont fully control the pricing hence kids are a fiver!

£1 less than at Culter I should add and lets be fair far better facilities....

  15. If they dont finish it on Saturday, McNamara should be sacked. If we dont win very comfortably he is leaving himself open to more abuse. Depite tearing what little hair I have left over the 2011 incarnation of Thistle, I am pretty sure we will win very comfortably on Saturday. If pressed for a score I reckon we will score at least 6 against them

Cant see it being 6 based on what we saw on Saturday and also in other recent games but am sure it will more comfortable. It wasnae very good on Saturday but the abuse the players took at full time was rather brutal and a bit OTT. Confidence is low just now but was this not the same starting 11 bar one that started the season playing some great stuff against a Celtic X1 worth a few more bob than anybody we will play this season??!!

Think the team need the fans behind them and Jackie Mac needs at least a full season to be properly assesed...

Stick with it guys and keep the faith! :D
