  1. Anyone else remember this? 25 years ago or so, when Arsenal were re-developing the North End at Highbury (behind the goals) to create their all seated stand. For a full season they hid the building work behind a huge mural which depicted supporters at the game. The effect was brilliant, and it was done so well that whenever the TV cameras panned by the scene to capture the on field action, at first glance you never noticed you were looking at a painted picture.

All done on the normal hoarding boards you see around building sites. At Firhill it probably wouldn't need to be any higher than 12 feet or so. We now have the capability of artistic input and costs would be relatively cheap. And yes, it would hide the disgrace that is the bing.

  2. I like the idea of a planned gathering. After the first home game of the season, we head of to an exclusively booked pub function room, watch some jags related vids on a big screen, have some fundraising activities when we're all semi pished, add in a sprinkling of Jags legends from the past, Sir Robert Reid as M.C. for the evening, then about 10pm we head to The Taj Mahal (the restaurant, not the place in India) which has also been pre booked for the evening on behalf of all things Jaggy.

Those of a younger persuasion can then go on to a 'gentlemans club' in the early hours and enjoy watching some real diddies.

Admittedly the plan may need a little refinement, but I don't think it would be too hard to organise, will be semi informal, and could raise a few pounds for lightbulbs for the floodlights etc.

  3. "Thanks for the offer of a contract boss, but I won't be signing it."

"Oh, would you mind telling me why not Scott?"

"I want to play for a team that can challenge for trophies, boss. You know, play in front of larger crowds, play for a club where I can get more exposure, boss. I really want to regain my place as Scotland's third goalkeeper, you know, when others are out injured like."

"Have you got another club in mind, Scott?"

"Yes, indeed I have actually. I want to play for County boss, Ross County."

"Ahh, yes....I see...well...ermmm, be a good chap and close the door on the way out will you?"

To be fair fox possibly looked more assured than gallacher in the second half of the season thanks to the huge improvement in our defence. If you look at shots on goal in Foxys games compared to gallachers there's no comparison and the timing of fox replacing paul was in line with Conrads recent brilliant form. Not that I'm saying the two are related.

In the previous season gallacher was hugely instrumental in keeping us in this league. I would say this year it's been more down to our defence than goalkeeper and I can't think of many games I've come out of thinking wow gallacher or foxy was brilliant today.

I agree though that gallacher is not the answer to next season and I think scully has done everything the club has asked and deserves his shot.

My finger was poised over the Like This button as I agreed with everything you said until I read your final sentence. I know Gallacher is 102 years old, but I was dissapointed when he was left out towards the end of last season. Still a very capable keeper for at least two more years, and certainly no worse than Fox. Scully will still need looked after for another season at least and Gallacher is the man to do it.

Go up the thread and, agree, he had potential. Even quite liked the Polish(?) boy who creamed Taylor yesterday. No hesitation in going for a 50-50 ball and using his body to protect himself.

Oops, silly me, thanks for highlighting. At least I'm not the only one with that opinion.

  6. Laura is a Jags fan but never went to many games - despite my attempts to drag her along (my wee sis). I used to go home and away but not so much now, given where I live, but it's great to see the team doing so well under Archie.

Whats the chances of getting Laura to wear something red and yellow next time she's on the telly? A surreptitious wee thistle on her lapel? I'm sure she could slip something in as part of the celebration...it would be great, and it would be our dirty, wee secret!

Don't get your snickers in a twist Gaz, one or two more victories should see us safe.

Right Poppets, play nice now. This is Bounty end in tears once the forum police get involved. You know how they dislike these puns.

  8. "he's got that in his locker"

    groan

Lol...I saw the title of the thread and eagerly pressed the button ready to write these very words. Little did I know it would be the thread opener! Did Jamie Redknapps use of it tonight put you over the edge?

Since you took my first choice, I'll go with my second: "He's far enough out to get it up and over".

  9. Doug Somner

    nuff said !

Well said Sir. Top scorer for the club in each of the five years he was with us, and one of the most feared forwards in the top league in Scotland in the late seventies. Even after his perplexing transfer to St. Midden, he continued to be their top scorer of each of the 3 years he was with them as well, once again in the top league. Subsequent moves to Hamilton and Montrose? Yes, top scorer for these teams each season he was there as well, albeit at a lower level but his work commitment meant he was happy to play part time.

It was a crime that we even thought about taking cash from St Midden for him, but it was thought at the time that Beastie Macadam was a good replacement. He done a job for a couple of years, but was never in Dougie's league.

Somners transfer was the catalyst for the woeful eighties and, I would argue, our 30 years in the wilderness. I'm still scarred and bitter. The Sons of Somner (Lanark Chapter) will continue to fight to ensure that those responsible for Somner's transfer will be brought to justice.
