  1. Don't think Pogba said anything wrong there. The journalist has decided to try and make it a "blast" at his team mates, when in reality all he's saying is that he needs better service to score, which is true. He also says "In some cases they deliver the ball and sometimes I’m not in the right place". Total non-story.

  2. Actually looking forward to this, which probably means it will be a 1-0 borefest to the Saintees. Imagine we'll go with the same team, although I can potentially see Miller coming in for Dumbuya as I saw he's had a tough international trip posted in another thread plus if he's still not fully fit, may get a rest for this one. Would quite like to see Muirhead come in for Welsh, moving Bannigan back to centre midfield, but am happy to go with the same team as Dundee Utd as long as we don't play with 3 holding midfielders.

  3. Agree with ian_mac. We were better in patches against Killie and over the 90 minutes against Dundee. We won on Saturday because we took (the majority of) our chances and got a bit of luck for probably the first time this season. United were absolutely dreadful, particularly in the second half, however, if one of their two chances in the first half goes in to make it 1-1 then it could've been a totally different game. Fantastic save from Cerny for the first and a bit of luck with the shot rattling off the post for the second.

Dumbuya has been excellent in every game since he joined and yesterday was his best performance yet. The fact Archie has said he's not fully fit yet means he could still get better yet. As soon as Pogba gets a goal, he'll be a bit more of a threat. He hasn't got a brilliant first touch, but was involved in most of our good moves and once the first goal comes, he'll hopefully kick on from there. Bannigan was excellent in an unfamiliar position and Booth and Seaborne also had good games. Amoo has a great delivery on him and bags of pace, but I still think he's always scared to take a man on and beat him with the ball at his feet. Once he starts doing that, he could be useful but I'm still not totally convinced by him. Edwards also had a couple of decent touches in the short time he was on the park.

Mainly I'm just delighted because I could celebrate my birthday with a Thistle win. Big step up needed for McDiarmid Park after the international break, but a great result to take into it.

  4. Thought Muirhead had a great game, was also unlucky not to have scored at least one or two of the three goals to meet The Cup's standards. If he didn't tire then he would've challenged Dumbuya for man of the match. Not been a fan of Miller this season, however I thought the Aberdeen game was his best so far this season and when I saw the teams on Saturday I thought it was harsh that he was dropped but I thought Dumbuya was excellent. More of a SOD-type player which we've been sorely lacking. Given that he isn't even fully match fit (apparently), hopefully both he and Muirhead get better once they get bedded in.

  5. Would like to see both the new guys starting, but can see Archie starting with Dumbuya on the bench as I'm not sure if he's 100% fit yet since he hasn't had a preseason, would also be unfair to drop Miller since the Aberdeen game was probably his best in a Thistle jersey so far. Think we'll also start Muirhead wide (despite reports saying he's muck out there) to accommodate Welsh in the midfield.

    Think we'll lineup as follows:

    Cerny

    Miller, Lindsay, Frans, Booth

    Osman, Welsh, Bannigan

    Muirhead, Doolan/Pogba, Lawless

Big chance to get a first three points on the board here. Fairly hopeful as aside from up front, I don't see much quality in that Dundee side.

  6. A cardboard cut out of Alex Raisbeck would be better than Seaborne

People have very short memories. Seaborne was one of our players of the season before he got injured. Granted, this season so far he hasn't been very good but if he gets back to the form he was in last year and maintains his fitness for an extended period of time, then he's one of our best players.

  7. Better than Hearts and Falkirk but still not good enough. Thought McDaid had a good first half, Pogba got himself about well and that was probably Miller's best game in a Thistle top so far. Other than that, we are toothless going forward. Welsh isn't the link between the midfield and the striker, he's not an attacking midfielder. On current form, Welsh and Bannigan are the two centre midfielders we should be starting with. Osman has not been at the races so far. Heads seemed to go down after the first goal, which was as blatant a handball as you're ever going to see. Highlight was the Aberdeen fans foaming at the mouth when the guy gave them a GIRFUY at half time. Total heads gone stuff.

Priority before the window shuts needs to be a central attacking midfielder who can bring the ball forward from midfield with pace and link up with the striker, and a backup fullback.

  8. I'd go with: Cerny, Miller, Frans, Lindsay, Booth, Osman, Bannigan, Stevenson, Welsh, Lawless, Pogba

Subs: Scully, Seaborne, Hendry, Amoo, Wilson/Fraser, McDaid, Doolan

Stevenson over Amoo for his physical presence and the fact that he doesn't sh!t out of tackles/headers. Would've liked to have McDaid/Lawless on the wings but in games like this, I don't think it'd be very wise. Seaborne can sit this one out since we can't afford another performance from him like Tuesday. Lindsay hasn't done much wrong this season so he can come back in. Hendry has been better than Frans so far, but having the two youngsters starting this one might not be be a great idea, even if they did hold their own for large periods against Celtic.

  9. Have a funny feeling Pogba might start this one tomorrow to deal with Aberdeen's physical presence. Other that that, no real drastic changes. Resigned to getting hammered but hopefully we can keep it respectable. Would love to be proved wrong and for us to sneak a win though.

  10. You asked me for suggestions and I've given you several - simply replying with more questions in the hope that some of them trip me up is pretty tiresome.

So the drop in crowds is due to a failure on the club's part? So these crowds that have melted away, what categories were they? Kids? Adults? Concessions? You'll have the numbers right?

Were anyone of then disenchanted Rangers fans who decided to go back?

    Missing the point.

  11. The only way I'd personally part with more money is an upgraded season ticket that in return entitles you to some sort of hospitality day(s). That could perhaps tie in with a player fund raiser but that would be as close as I'd get to parting with more cash.

eta I'd perhaps turn out to watch a fund raiser match. Maybe ex players versus a PT youth select. A few hundred paying £10 a skill at that might be feasible. Could combine it with the likes of the Training Day we had last month?

Two very, very good suggestions there. Especially to get an extra buck out of those who already pledge a fair wad of cash into the club, like yourself. These things would be at very little expense to the club to set up/organise and seem like fairly easy ways of raising not insubstantial amounts of money.

Not to be negative, but personally, the only problem I'd have with an "upgraded" season ticket is trusting whether there would be any real benefit to it. As discussed to death on here on numerous threads, the farcical elements of TAG (its not all bad, in fairness) plus the additional benefits which were meant to be with this seasons tickets (where are the discounts at retailers?) would make me skeptical in believing anything promised with an upgraded season ticket would actually be delivered. To end it on a positive though, I like to think that should something like this be implemented, the club would follow through and I would definitely buy one at least on the first year and if the club deliver and give value for the extra money, then more than likely continue to do so.

  12. I was really frustrated with amoo during the week. Time and time again he had acres of space in front of him, he should be looking for Miller to be lobbing balls over the top, but instead he kept sitting, almost getting in the way of Miller or Stevenson who had the ball on the right.

This is absolutely bang on. I've noticed that in a few games this season. I don't know whether its because he prefers getting the ball to feet then taking players on, but his tendency to hold back instead of bursting forward and using the pace he has is extremely frustrating to watch. Its almost as if Miller is holding off waiting for him to make the run sometimes and ultimately just ends in a muddle on that side of the park.

  13. I'd be going with:

    Scully

    Miller Lindsay Hendry Booth

    Osman Fraser

    Amoo Wilson McDaid

    Pogba/Doolan

Archie has said he'll be taking this tournament seriously so I don't see him going with the same team as I. Would be nice to see a couple of the young guys get a chance. Lindsay and Hendry together since they've got a good understanding with each other and are both more than competent to handle Falkirk, like they did with Hamilton. Amoo needs games to build confidence and McDaid certainly did enough in his brief stint on Saturday to merit a start tonight. If Pogba is fit then give him 50-60 minutes to get some match fitness and bring Doolan on when he starts to tire.

  14. I agree with Jag's post 100%, as well as Ian Mac's. I will cheer on Stevenson, just as I do for the rest of the team, in every game. I don't care who he applauds at the end of the game. Its what he does on the park that I'm bothered with and I have been bothered with his form and, in my opinion, effort in games. It makes it even more frustrating when it's Stevenson for two reasons. The first being that the talent is there and it doesn't seem to be used to its full potential, which is a waste more than anything, and the second, as Jag has alluded to, is that he is one of our highest earners, so he should be one of our best players week in week out. I totally appreciate that players can go in and out of form and have no issue with that, however if someone is having a good game for one in every five or ten, thats where I have a problem. I want to see the best for the club and that means all of our players playing well and, in my opinion of course, Stevenson has not played well on a consistent basis since he has joined the club.

  15. So, your not a fan of Stevo?

    You could say that...

I genuinely do want to be a fan of him though. I was excited when he signed but I think he has been a massive let down since. If he can get fitter and show a bit of desire on a weekly basis then he probably is the best player in the squad. The talent is definitely there, its just not being shown.

  16. Christie Elliot has no excuses either. Pelvis injury? He's had 5 games to get himself into shape. Whether he is injured or not, is besides the point.

    Rocket.

Is Ryan Stevenson injured now? No. Christie Elliott was fit during preseason, then got injured. Stevenson has now been fit for several weeks and hasn't bothered to get himself match fit despite being 5 games into the season.

    Rocket.

On what basis exactly? That he wasn't as fit as he could have been when he signed? In that case, the fact that he got himself fit and became one of better players is surely evidence of his professionalism. Using Saturday as any kind of basis to question the guy's professionalism is utterly flawed, seeing as he was no poorer than any other Thistle player on the pitch.

What it ultimately comes down to is folk getting their knickers in a twist because he acknowledged the fans of a club he played for on two spells with relative success (on an individual basis, at least) and then using that to justify ludicrous slanders towards him.

I don't think it shows professionalism to not bother your arse to get fit until 6 months into the season. I can remember Stevenson having 5 or 6 good games for us last season. As I've said, what he did with the Hearts fans doesn't come into my thoughts for this. The debate is being made about Stevenson just now and that's why I've given my thoughts. My opinion hasn't changed from last week or 6 months ago for that matter. I'd love to be proved wrong because on his day he is a very, very good player, but he hasn't been on his day very much since he joined.

  17. But to question his professionalism - questioning only arising because of this nothing incident on Saturday - is nonsense of the highest order.

I've been questioning his professionalism since he joined, and it was evident on Saturday for his efforts on the pitch, not anything else.

  18. Stevenson is far from fit. If this was preseason I would give him his due, but this is now 5 games into the season. Whether he was injured during preseason or not is beside the point, he has been able for long enough now to get back into some sort of shape and match fitness - he doesn't even look close. That's two seasons in a row that he's taken a long time to get fit. I remember last season, with a full preseason behind him, he was blowing out his arse after 60 minutes during the first game against Ross County and for several weeks/months after that, hence, along with a loss of form (I'm assuming) is why he was dropped. This season, our numbers are shorter so we can't afford for players to be unfit for weeks/months. Maybe its just his natural body language or whatever but Stevo just does not look like he gives a ****. Him coming off and getting his applause from the Hearts fans was the happiest he's looked in the 2 years he's been with us. Aside from maybe 2/3 months of last season, Stevenson has done absolutely nothing to merit the wages that he's on in comparison to the rest of the squad (whether he's THE highest earner or not, no one can deny that he is at least one of the highest earners)
