Didn't someone say we had "first option" on Taylor this season? What does this really mean?

To be fair, when Billy McDonald first broke into the 1st team everyone thought he was a great find. However after the first couple of months it was all downhill thereafter. Still wish he had connected with Gazza that time at Firhill though and we'd probably have better memories of him than the Ayr game!
I remember being the mascot for a Scottish cup game around 95/96 against stirling albion (we lost 3-2) and when they asked me who my favourite player was, my answer was billy mcdonald and the only reason i could think of was because he tried to break gazzas leg with that kick.
I guess i learned from a pretty young age that you're supposed to hate them.

Honest question - has he scored a game changing/winning goal this season?
For the avoidance of any doubt - that question does not imply that Lyle Taylor is a bad player.
Both goals in a massive 2-0 home win against one of the teams who looked like they could be cacthing us?

I might be reading this wrong but everyday i pick my workmate up who stays in the houses facing firhill and tuesday Wednesday and thursday lyles car was outside the ground. Obviously there's lots of reasons a player would be at the stadium but it would suggest to me the big man could perhaps be having discussions with the club. Heres hoping as i think a full season with the jags and we would really see the best of him.

Noticed O'Donnell's cracker up at Tannadice has been nominated for goal of the season on sky sports.
Definitely should stand a chance of winning if it wasn't a public vote and no doubt a celtic goal will end up winning.
Just watching it again i noticed it was made entirely of players who might not be here next season in higgy, taylor and sod. Wonder how hard it would be for us to keep all 3?

I was a bit puzzled by the one substitution, not sure why Taylor was pulled off in favour of the more lightweight Doolan.
Taylor could barely move when he was subbed. He had ran himself right into the ground.

just realised... Elliott played on the left in place of Higgy in the first half.
So this argument is pointless. It should be about McDaid or Lawless.
Or Elliott/Higgy.
Both higgy and lawless can/have played on either wing.
The point I was making was that elliot, in a wide midfield position is a waste. I'd have no qualms with archie starting him at LB as i'm still unsure re booth. But if both higgy and lawless are on the bench behind him then i'd much rather start with one of those.

Because Elliott does what the manager asks of him?
Because Elliott is more versatile?
Because Elliott is better in the air?
Because Elliott is more physical?
Because you know which Elliott will turn up?
He might not be as gifted with the ball at his feet as Lawless, but he offers more in other areas.
All the 'attributes' you've listed, suggest that elliot is in the team to make us 'more solid' which in the past few weeks hasn't even worked anyway. When playing the worst team in the league at home, do you not think we would be better trying to create chances/score goals rather than trying to stop county? I believe we have good enough players at the club who could go and beat county, pretty convincingly even, but they're not much use to us on the bench.
And for the record i dont want rid of archie, and i think he'll keep us up. However, when i go to watch thistle i want to be watching the best players we have. Players i feel can create something out of nothing. Players that will excite me. I've never felt excited when christie picks the ball up.

To be fair, i think the original point wasn't just about saturday. It was more of a general point about the last few weeks and why Elliot is in the team week in week out when there are better players sitting on the bench. I get that elliot tries his hardest most of the time (the 3rd goal on saturday being a notable exception though by then the rest of the teams attitude has probably rubbed off on him)
For me the "uch he tries his hardest" line shouldn't really be used as a reason for him to be starting. Its the absolute minimum i would expect from any player who pulls on a thistle jersey and,up untill saturday, i'd say all of our players give 100%. I dont think i've ever seen lawless not trying his hardest. And although hes been garbage this season ive never seen higgy not trying. For me those 2 players should start ahead of elliot in the wide midfield positions 10 times out of 10. Most of our play tends to, untill the recent brand of "route 1" football we've reverted to recently, come from wide positions so having our most creative players in those positions is more important for me than a guy who will supposedly offer us a bit more defensively. Even more so when we're playing the worst team in the league on our own patch after a run of 4 straight defeats where we've barely created a chance.

Was it not "sacking" their manager that got them into trouble in the first place? They were mid-table when they sacked Fenlon.

The Premiership is a step too far for him, which is fair enough but he shouldn't be in the team.
It isn't though. Last season at times he was absolutely superb. As i said above, the way we're setting up at the moment is making him look a poor player.

I personally don't rate him at all, as I said 5 minutes ago on another thread. Gives away plenty of fouls and picks up a lot of bookings. Loads of backwards and sideways passing in his game that leads to nothing. Hasn't chipped in with a goal in ages. Has a decent enough engine, but that doesn't offset for me which is a lack of ability and generally how physically lightweight he is. Hes a scrawny looking lad who is anything but a creative player. A wee guy like McDaid or Higgy or Lawless can get away with it because they play out wide and their small figure makes them tougher to tackle, Bannigan is supposed to be in the middle of the park winning and breaking things up and I don't see where he does.
I think people are smoking some funny shit if they think hes going to progress to bigger things than us. If he does leave, hes not going far before coming back down.

For me the problem on saturday was whenever bannigan picked the ball up, there was absolutely nothing happening infront of him. Stevenson as a lone striker doesn't make enough runs looking to get in behind or drag their defenders around the pitch making space for others (not his fault as that isn't his type of game) so when banzo was on the ball the only real options for him are to go sideways (Unfortunately on saturday higgy and lawless were having poor games/being marked out the game) so its making him look negative.
That is why it is absolutely crucial we play stevo as the attacking midfielder, a link-up man between the midfielders and striker. Of banzo, fraser and osman, not one of them will regularly get beyond the ball, all three of them like to be behind the ball dictating the game, we dont need 3 guys like that in the middle of the park.

About this time last season, we were undoubtedly very poor at defending set pieces. This season we're greatly improved, and I honestly can't think of that many conceded from set pieces overall. I no longer panic every time we concede a corner anyway. Every team concedes a few this way, and given the amount of chopping and changing that's been necessary at the back this season, I think we're OK at defending set pieces overall.
Definitely, i'd say with frans and seabourne in the side we have 2 centre halfs who will dominate our box and win a lot of of headers when we're defending set pieces, along with a few other players in the side who are good in the air (i remember dools on wednesday with a great defensive header when defending a corner)
I dont know if we've been working on this in training but we do seem to be a whole lot better at defending set pieces than we were last season.

Jeezo.....I certainly wasn't expecting that! There was absolutely no failures tonight. Every single player was outstanding. Craigen was fantastic in the middle of the park. Demanding the ball off people and always looking to drive us forward. Elliot at left back was superb (although he didnt have much defending to do) and what do u even say about dools? His back-heel was out of this world. If that was in the english premiership or la liga they would be going on about it for years.
What a night. I was supposed to be in work till 10 tonight but managed to get away. Thank god I did.

ATS cost us a few goals last season. Where is the evidence that we have missed ATS? We are better off than we were when he was here.
I'd say we are better off due to the fact that the team as a whole, is much more solid than it was last season. If we single out the left back position, carrol hasn't really shown much. Mcmillan then looked decent untill he got injured/suspended. We've since had banzo, elliot and keenan all having a shot here so it's probably fair to say we've missed ATS.

Decent player though he is, i dont think we really need tidser. Our midfield is unquestionably the strongest area of our squad. We're already looking at having to drop one of banzo, fraser or osman if we want to accomadate stevenson in the position which is by far his best (as he showed last sunday).
And then theres welsh if he returns anytime soon. I think our budget could be used better on other areas of the squad.
