  1. 68m across I believe - I know its around 2 yards under the maximum 70 for a Rugby pitch (which according to Scott Hastings is the reason Glasgow beat Edinburgh last season, ignoring the fact we beat them at Murrayfield also...) In goal area isn't huge - but its larger than many grounds in England (Bath and Wasps in particular spring to mind) where it is tiny. Maybe 5 or 6 yards? uberteeb - you can (or you could last season, and as far as I know it was successful so they will continue) buy tickets from Greaves until 6pm on matchday. You certainly won't be able to buy them in Firhill during the day though, since all our administrative staff (all 2 of them) are now based at Scotstoun...
  2. First of all - match tickets are only £15 if bought before 6pm on match night (or I think 3 hours before kick-off for a sat/sun game), it only costs £20 if you turn up on the night to get your ticket. (the crowds we are getting right now I fully understand that - since it gives the club a far better idea if they will need the north/main stand atall. The £20 for HC games only lasted 1 season before being dropped in favour of increased match-day prices across the board. And is £15 to watch Toulouse (4-time and reigning European champions) not better value than £16 to watch Dundee? What is the deal with Thistle ST's this year - does it automatically give you entry to the Edinburgh game, or do you have to swap a voucher for a match ticket in advance? I know that Edinburgh fans (who get into 3 of our games, including the derby) now have to swap their vouchers for tickets in advance, and I think we are going to Allocated seating for the derby this year.
  3. No - I think Home Advantage is too big an issue in the WC (which it isn't in the afformentioned Eurovision Song contest). There are only 2.5 teams ever to have won the WC outside their home continent - Brazil (have managed it a couple of times), and the winners of this years event in South Africa (and lets face it, an African team was never going to win it). The .5 comes from Argentina's victory in Mexico which, technically, is North America - but in reality is probably closer to South America. So basically what we can expect is a South American team to win in 2014, A Euro team to win in 2018 ect. until Brazil pull off a victory in Europe and hence every tournament is there. And under those proposals, we would never have had a tournament in Japan/Korea or in South Africa. (And what would happen if a team that really cannot host the tournamet were to win it? Say, Scotland, for example? OK, its not likely to ever happen, but Scotland would never be able to host it. Infact a more realistic example would be the Netherlands - suppose they won on sunday, would they be able to host a WC in 8 years? I doubt it!)
  4. forget the bell - they shouldn't be on footpaths!
  5. I think he might have visited Firhill last season! (well, his team did - I don't have anything to prove he did or didn't make the journey) We walked past his hotel in Biarritz aswell - the guards took one look at us and made it clear we weren't getting in
  6. We beat all 3 of those the last time we played them! Should realistically be targetting 3 home wins, and hopefully we can pick up enough on the road to scrape through in second place. I decided not to bother going to Toulouse 2 years ago - I wont make that mistake again Really looking forward to that trip (given we beat them last time out, and they normally only play one game at their home ground, I suspect we may get to play them infront of 40,000 of the most passionate fans in rugby ) We got 5,000 to Firhill last time they came 2 years ago - and they are now European Champions. Would be good if we could get 6-7,000 in for that one (or even fill it?) Just a shame we got the feckin Dragons again!
  7. pretty sure it is: Scotland v (insert opposition here) Hampden Park, Glasgow (insert date here) Wouldn't be so sure none were sold with this embroidered on them - Greaves definatly sold the previous edition with 'Scotland v France' ect on them, and I know Greaves offer to embroider the same stuff on the Scotland Rugby jersey. They may offer the same service on the football ones?
  8. Definatly heard of people getting seriously cheap tickets for Twickers (may not be £5, but certainly way below face value) at the last minute. Might be from touts rather than from official channels, but touts are alright if they are selling below face value I think the games are normally officially sold out, but there is apparently often an abundance of tickets being sold outside at knock-down prices. Mind you, I heard the same (well, that plenty of tickets were available for £70 anyway - face value) about Dublin in 2008, yet we spent ages trying to get more tickets (only had enough for half our group) and didn't see any. Never been to Twickenham mind, so not really sure. Will see if I can remember where I heard this.
  9. No segregation in Rugby - although there will be areas where the SRU ticket allocation is. (from past experience in Dublin though, there are generally quite a few irishmen get tickets through the SRU and vice versa) Not sure when the RFU will put tickets on sale (the SRU put theirs on sale a month ago), but from what ive heard getting tickets for Scotland at twickers is one of the easiest to get - with tickets often available for £5 nearer the time. Cant remember exactly why this is, but think it might be returns from the SRU allocation
  10. It was from the start of next season (ie. this summer). Although that deal was announced about a year ago, the Stadium was only opened in february of this year - and our pitches (one grass, one artificial, to the west of the stand) only started to go down a few weeks ago. I would imagine the intention is to be in there in time for pre-season training in a month or so.
  11. hate to be pedantic, but Scotstoun is pretty much the only venue in Glasgow we DONT currently train at - yet. No need to worry, we will not be moving games to Scotstoun because the pitch isn't big enough (I have spoken to club officials about this myself, and they say it is impossible to fit a Magners League compliant pitch in Scotstoun). Training (all of it, so better than the 5 different venues we use right now) and our club offices will be moved to Scotstoun, while games will remain at Firhill for the foresable future.
  12. TBH that says more about the football ones (im sure we all remember the Estonia farce a few years ago)
  13. And Glasgow have officially been cheated out of a home semi-final! Ospreys have been docked 4 points for failing to fufill a fixture against Ulster at Ravenhill, because they didn't want to play without their most experienced players. But, I'm sure anybody on here will agree sporting integrity dictates a punishment like that should come in the same season as the offence is comitted. CR can be bloody pleased nobody outside the top 4 was within 4 points of the Ospreys though, or there would would be all-out war! (ofcourse the real question is though, since the game was supposed to be played on 19th March, and it is now the 13th May, why has it taken this long to convene the disciplinary panel?)
  14. Once again we were just 12 minutes away from a semi-final at Firhill today. ML semi-finals are now confirmed: Neath-Swansea Ospreys v Glasgow Warriors, fri 14th may 19:05 (will be live on BBC Wales for those interested) Leinster v Munster, Sat 15th may 20:00 If Munster beat Leinster at the RDS, the final will be at 'home' for the winner of Ospreys v Glasgow - In Glasgows case, Murrayfield.
  15. And there is that try If it finishes like this, Leinster still need something on sunday to finish in the top 2. But at home to Edinburgh, it would be the upset of the season if it came off...
  16. 12 mins to go - no play-off at Firhill ATM, not on league points, not on games won, not on pts diff, but on tries for! Ospreys only need 1 try to end it though.
  17. HT down in Wales: Scarlets 16(2T)-(2T)17 Warriors Ospreys 16(1T)-3 Newport So as things stand, Glasgow are in a strong position. BUT the worry is Newport give up if they fall any further behind. On the other hand, if they can steal a try it forces the Ospreys to concentrate on the win and makes going for the BP risky. Still a lot of Rugby to be played, and no chickens being counted here, but there is a chance... A slim one, but a chance none the less!
  18. would have to be much cheaper than £5m (or at the least, a nominal fee now and the rest when we can afford it). The SRU's debts make Thistl... actually, the SRU's debts are much less than Rangers debt. Except obviously the SRU have better assets and therefore arent under an serious pressure. (they are also using those assets to make huge inroads towards clearing that debt. Events like last weeks Magic Weekend, the 7's and last years HC final) Most recent figures were about £16m, but that was last year - should see updated accounts before the AGM next month, and would expect to see it decrease again. Ofcourse, if Glasgow continue to grow off the park (our average crowd was up to just under 3,800 this year) and can hit 5-6,000 on a weekly basis then we might start making profits, which are apparently ours to invest as we choose Would be nice if we could buy it before the bing is destroyed though (unless its too late already?)

  20. A thread for discussing Partick Thistles tennents, and to moan about the state of the pitch ect. With a play-off place already confirmed (Thank you Ulster) a top 2 finish will bring that semi-final to Firhill. Glasgow are currently third, 1 point behind Neath-Swansea Ospreys and 4 behind Leinster, and travel to Llanelli on friday. To secure a home semi-final Glasgow need to pick up a 4 try bonus point win at Llanelli, and hope that Ospreys cant put 4 tries past their welsh rivals from Newport. Not that likely TBH (a bunch of kids being sent by Newport due to an injury crisis) but who knows what will happen... Would be terrible to not get the BP win only to find out Newport had kept them out. Glasgow team to play Llanelli: 15 Bernardo Stortoni 14 DTH van der Merwe 13 Max Evans 12 Graeme Morrison 11 Rob Dewey 10 Dan Parks 9 Chris Cusiter 1 Kevin Tkachuk 2 Fergus Thomson 3 Moray Low 4 Richie Gray 5 Alastair Kellock CAPTAIN 6 Calum Forrester 7 Kelly Brown 8 Johnnie Beattie Substitutes 16 Dougie Hall 17 Ed Kalman 18 Dan Turner 19 James Eddie 20 Mark McMillan 21 Duncan Weir* 22 Hefin O’Hare Aside from John Barclay (being rested for the semi - has a slight shoulder knock apparently) as stong as side as we could. Not really surprising given what is at stake.
  21. has decided to set their status... later!

  22. I might be wrong on this, but were there not plans to set up a Glasgow-based side a year or so ago? (ie. around the same time Celtic Crusaders - that is the superleague side, right? or am I getting them mixed up with the Celtic Warriors? - were set up) However, a major problem is that Union is struggling to run two pro teams, while Internationals get 67,000+ against most top sides. given that international League matches get just 2-3,000 (ie. less than our two professional union clubs now get), how can we expect to run a club side? League is almost non-existant outside of the north of england and australia. It was popular in Southern France, but professionalism in Union (combined with a political decision) means it it is no longer as popular as it once was. (In the '50's and '60's League was the biggest sport in France!) Compare USA Perpignan with the Catalan Dragons, and its obvious where french alliegances now lie. And Perpignan arent even one of the top french clubs support-wise. Despite being a Union man through and through, I decided to give League a chance at the last WC. (believing, as a supporter of a minority sport, that all sports should atleast be given a chance) But FFS, that tournament was an utter joke! 3 groups: 1 group of 4 (NZ, Aus, Eng and A.N. Other) with 3 going through to the Semi-finals, and 2 groups of 3, with the winners playing each-other for the 4th semi spot... Whats the point on having a pool stage? Mind you, if there was a Glasgow based side, I would probably go along a few times to see what its like. (from what ive heard though, it takes all the good bits about football, removes them and replaces them with the bad bits from football...) BTW, anyone know the result of the Scotland v France game at Currie Rugby Club tonight?
