  1. almost twenty hours on from the final whistle, i thought i'd catch up on posts since last looked at thread pre kick off ..... after wading through a fair number of total heads gone posts, comments from some who were seemingly watching a different match, and some reasonable posts of sense while not always reflecting my overall view, i am happy to see the following post which says it as i saw it, player by player, as well as the bigger picture in terms of pairings, subs as well as formations, tactics and the like yesterday and for for the future ..... saved me considering typing out long post that potty has done, so, while out of likes, have an imaginary like from me.

A lot of positives to take from yesterday. I thought the first 45 was the quickest, most entertaining football we have played, in a very long time. It was a joy to watch. It was clear that it stemmed from the midfield pairing of Barton and Edwards. They absolutely bossed the middle of the park. Ironically, it was the second 45 which brought us more chances on goal.

Scully looked assured, bossed his 6 yard box and committed to coming for and claiming cross balls. Two outstanding saves in the second half. Boy, does he deserve a clean sheet!

Words can't describe Elliott's contribution yesterday. For his first game back, his level of fitness was incredible. So tough in the tackle! But also knowledgable enough to know when to just boss someone off the ball. Linked up well with Lawless going forward.

However, on the other side Gordon is really struggling to find the form everyone knows he is capable of. I don't know what it is, but there's something missing.

In the middle Lindsay and Devine looked composed for the majority of the time. Devine was really comfortable on the ball and Liam kept it simple. With time they will grow in confidence. I commented yesterday. I just want them to do the Bruce/Pallister job. Keep it simple.

In front of them Barton and Edwards were immense. Edwards especially. He was everywhere doing all the donkey work for Barton. His energy drove us forward. A big difference to what we are used to. Regards Barton, all the folk who have spent the last couple of weeks greeting, why sign someone and not play him, it was obvious why he hadn't featured. He's not match fit. But on yesterday's evidence, we have got a gifted player once he is fit. So comfortable on the ball. I would have no concerns about the pair of them being our first choice pairing.

I've been a big critic of Lawless, probably since we got promoted, but yesterday he offered so much defensively, dropping back to left wing back when Elliott tucked inside, covering their right backs runs.

Erskine is Erskine, the guy is just a joy to watch.

Amoo is slowly getting back to last seasons form, first half I thought he was brilliant, but seemed to fade in the second.

azeez, what can you say. The big man offers a completely different option to what we have had before. Probably the player Archie has been looking for, but struggled to find since Craig left the club. He caused so many problems for their defence, with him and Erskine chasing down their back four, forcing them into mistakes. Like v St Johnstone, he was winning us throw ins up at their 18 yard box, from nothing. Essential to take the pressure off our defence. I'm willing to say every chance he had yesterday was from his own hard work. So he missed them, life's too short to worry about that. The fact that he gets himself into these positions and offers so much between the half way line and 18 yard line means we only have one thing to work on, his finishing. Get that and we have two fantastic options up front.

It's disappointing to see some of the comments on here regards Azeez, we really have some short sighted folk in our support. It seems we are far to quick to pass judgement and give some players absolutely no chance to settle at a new club, in a new city, and get themselves up to full fitness. The game is littered with players who don't hit the ground running. Some of our fans inability to recognise any positives is disappointing. But it just reflects poorly on them, rather than the player the slate.

I think the right sub was not Welsh, yesterday. I'd have brought on McDaid and moved Amoo into the middle. From what I hear McDaid is showing up well in the reserves. It would have maintained the same style and shape that had been working. Welsh's introduction slowed the pace of the game. It's also worth noting that Barton became more involved in everything, as Welsh wasn't offering anywhere near the same effectiveness as Edwards had, before him, in that position.

Based on yesterday's performance we have nothing to fear going to Ibrox, I'd love us to keep the same 11, and maintain the same pace.

only additional observations i'd make is we didn't miss osman, welsh slowed and reversed our momentum while mcdaid would have done opposite and filled the erskine role perfectly, dools should have been on earlier too, and some in the northy need to learn how to sing for more than ten seconds in a chant ..... back the team and management for ninety minutes every game, not ten seconds here and there.

  2. The real question is. Will our own Barton be playing?

set up beautifully for the headline writers .....

let's just hope it's at the right end and not an og :fan:

  3. From the PFA website .... "Put simply the main message for players is: 'You are not allowed to place ANY bet on ANY football, ANYWHERE.'"

    http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/joey-barton-probed-sfa-over-8872350

a red flag was raised by bookmakers last week after a bet was placed on Celtic to suffer a heavy defeat in the Nou Camp.

It’s alleged the wager – for Celtic to lose by at least three goals – was placed on Barton’s personal account with bookies Betfair

    thick chunt

  4. I agree with this. As much as I would love a terrace or safe standing area, It would only offer a cheaper ticket option without increasing attendance.

i'd love us to rip out the seats in the ns, turn it into a traditional old school terracing ..... now maxi is on the inside, he can push for this and make it happen i'm sure ;) ..... and if uefa refuse us to use firhill because of the terracing, in champions league in five years from now, we can just do a spurs and have our euro home games at hampden ..... or offer ten bob and a carry out to either of the arsecheeks for rent of their gaffs since they won't be using them on these nights :P

  5. unfortunately, what mr mac says about our attendances over last thirty years and the seventy per cent empty for most games, is correctly the unfortunate reality of the situation. even when the green arsecheek comes visiting (or, when the five year old zombie blue arsecheek finally does visit), we can't fill the ground.

at same time, don't think there is one single jags fan who looks at the city end (or the bing as it is affectionately known as to some, gnome heaven to others), or indeed any visiting opposition fan, and enthusiastically thinks "that looks great, makes the stadium look so much better" (and "wish we had something like that at our stadium" if they're a visitor).

so while we can't justify building a stand with seats or a terracing at the city end solely for the sake of "to make the place look a bit better", how about this ..... the club erects a hoarding the length of the city end, height of ns, and gets the guy who did the mural walking up to the jhs, to paint a stand jam packed with thistle fans ..... or contact art college, get them to take it on as a project for their students ..... if it gets in way of the view of advertising scaffold, just extend its height ..... the club could even make some money from it, by getting actual supporters to pay (for example) twenty five pounds each to have their mugshots painted on it, cover it with a decent coating, and it will last for decades :happy2::fan:

  6. I'm Tom Hateley. I'm thinking of joining The Jags, but I'll just see what the fans think first .... Maybe I'll go to Dundee then.

off you pop then tom, bothered we are not, we've got better in adam and the best barton in the league now anyway ..... and dundees a shitehole. :P :P

  7. spent a while navigating around the new site ..... first impressions is it looks good, seems to be a lot of new pages too, works fine on pc, tablet and phone, well done to all involved.

  8. Mentioned on the audio commentary yesterday; Jagzone £5.99/month (no live video stream), Jagzone World £12.99/month

iirc tag basic was similar cost to jagzone basic, while tag deluxe or whatever it was termed as, was similar cost to jagzone world.

season ticket holders got tag basic included with their st ..... will this arrangement/deal continue with jagzone basic for st holders?

  9. If you look at context, I was pretty happy.

Contexts being ridiculously early to play a competitive game, lot of players not match fit, players just getting to know one another.

I would single out David Wilson for praise. Never shirked a challenge and his passing is sometimes a joy to watch. Like every other player we have had that I can remember who sprays it about he does make the odd bad pass and they look really bad. If he can cut that out or at least reduce it, I think there's a player in him as Archie has always said and as many doubted.

Mcdaid got a lot of stick too. But I think positional and commitment wise he seems to have improved. Long may that continue. He and Wilson also delivered much better corners than we are used to seeing. Mcdaid was also involved in some really good exchanges in play with Doolan Erskine and lawless.

Azeez. Wow. Power pace strength and movement. With our coaches track record in improving players I am really looking forward to watching him for the next two seasons!

Back 4. Ziggy will be decent but was clearly not really match fit yet. Lindsay looks much fitter and leaner than last season? I still think we need a good centre back and then we would really have a very very good squad for this season.

    ^^^^^ this

  10. Only immediate concern I suppose is who will play in goal on Friday night? Wouldn't be surprised if that's the priority for Archie.

    kenny arthur

    it's only airdrie

being serious for a second, anyone know what's the issues and anticipated timeframes for cerny and scully being back?

guess it'll be cullen or one of the trialist keepers for friday (can you play a trialist in cup, or do we have to sign them on a short-term deal?)

  11. ^^^^^ correct dd, it's all as clear as mud as is the norm with our ruling bodies, wouldn't surprise me if cockwomble will make it up as it goes along at the vote, and exclude maxi for being party to challenging the spfl over the fixtures kerfuffle, or he whatever number of votes maxi gets, cockwomble decrees it's below threshold of required votes or something equally daft and previously unheard of, and only budge and lawell are voted on, then robertson of sevco invited to join the board the day after.

  12. ^^^^^ as couldn't find any answer on ptfc or gmfc websites, i called our hosts to enquire ..... the bad news is, according to the woman i spoke with, thistle supporters "will be accommodated in the far end of the stand", and that "only the stand is open tomorrow", to which i asked her to clarify if that went for the home support too, and that they weren't opening the cowshed, to which she replied "yes, that's correct, main stand only for everyone" ..... i did put across the case that if the wee dublin end was open, they'd likely get more jags fans, but if folk knew in advance it was main stand only, on what could be a lovely summers day, then many could decide not to attend ..... all i can suggest is if fellow jags fans call morton in semi decent numbers, asking about tomorrows arrangements for jags fans, then react surprised and disappointed at being told main stand only, and say that they are less inclined to go to greenock tomorrow, they might, and only might, realise the error of their ways and decide to open up the wee dublin end for us after all ..... 01475 723571 is their number for anyone who wants to try make morton do a swift about turn ..... they listened to their support when they launched their terrible and quickly scrapped home strip, so perhaps if enough jags fans kick up a stink, they'll change their mind again ..... it's either that or we all just storm out the stand en masse and take over the wde

  13. Not going to be much of a scrap as there's three people in for three places. :eyebrow:

hmmmm, old enough i am, to know better, than to trust a bbc report for accuracy

have reread the article, and while it states thompson of united will compete against two others for "two vacant positions", and brechins ferguson is the "sole nominee" for "the one position", nowhere does the bbc article state there are three vacant positions for premiership reps ..... the article implies quite the opposite, first with the headline which includes "to make second attempt" and then there's the quote about sevcos robertson "has decided not to vie for one of the three available positions".

a quick news search shows up, for example, the daily ragord says there's only one position for the three nominees, while the following says there's three vacant positions and thus budge will be on the board uncontested http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/sport/football/hearts/ann-budge-and-leeann-dempster-eye-election-to-spfl-board-1-4171853

    who's right, who's wrong?

i notice the ptfc site article says maxi is up for one of the three available positions, and it's not as if it's known for incorrect misinformation.

thompson stepped down, that's undisputed, so one vacant position clearly available ..... but if edinburgh news and scotsman and ptfc is correct, who is the other two premiership reps who are stepping down or not seeking re election?

  14. see i do, maxi is going head to head in a battle to the end, up against that even wee'er midget than me, ann budge, and that moral upstanding and not three faced at all, peter liewell, oops i mean lawell ..... for election to the spfl board.

sevcos stewart robertson (who?¿?¿?) has shat it already and said he isn't going to fight.

will maxi, the youngest, the only ex footballer of the three, and the one who looks most like a vulcan, prevail, and emerge victorious?

will we have a voice at the top table?

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36737440

with you we are maxi :fan:
