  1. To be pedantic (but for a point) disinterested means not being biased. (Where's crazy davie when you need him). Which I think doesn't apply to Cowan. If the point about him writing in is true then it looks like he has a big case of chip on shoulder syndrome now he's no longer one of the bosses at Firhill.

I would like to like clarify someone wrote to the letters page of the metro claiming to be A Cowan, Glasgow and the previous chariman of PTFC.

I have not made this up

  2. [/b]

    No comment !!! LOL.

Mr Cowan wrote into todays letters page of the metro

    Ill paraphrase

" the stadium has been police free since the start of last season, it appears the current spokesman does not know his bahookie from his elbow (what he said was "may not have been aware of the facts" )

  3. Wikipedia have it posted he has accepted the job at Kilmarnock

    Just seen on P&B

surely if this is the case we are due money or else every club would tell a manager to resign to avoid paying compo

  4. shock :o

massive over reaction on thistle forum......again

people make mistakes, live with it

unless there is someone out there who has been directly affected by what's happened in Japan and wants to make a complaint, can the rest please get off there high horse and step a way from there glass houses and get a life PLEASE.

Lance, please do not feel that you have to make an apology unless you have had direct contact from some one who has been directly affected as shown above and that should be a private thing between you and them.

So if someone tells a joke about ethnic minorities or disabled kids I cant get offended..

  5. After jokes about the second prizes at a couple of other games recently, 2 week holiday in Egypt, trips to Libya etc. I think Lance was probably just trying to keep it going. he got it wrong this week. I'm sure he knows it, but I hope he doesn't feel he should chuck it or stop trying to brighten things up.

They are not really in better taste either...

  6. I have a season ticket and really couldn't be bothered going on Tuesday but did out of a sense of obligation (I follow Arsenal as my 'big team' and a game against Barca on the sofa in the warmth with a couple of bottles of beer was incredibly tempting).

3 of my mates have season tickets, only 1 of them wanted to attend on Tuesday. The other 2 opted to stay at home and watch the Arsenal game, they couldn't give their season tickets away to any of our other Jag mates who don't have season tickets but attend semi-regularly.

It's not just cost, I budget to blow a fiarly large percentage of my wage at weekends which invariably involves the Jags. But I've been to less away games this year because I've had what I perceive as 'better options' (in the past there were far fewer 'better options' than there are now). A lot of the people I go with don't want to be shelling out the money it costs or have thier own 'better options' as well.

Beyond the price it just isn't that much fun playing the same teams so often, going to the same grounds so often, sitting in empty stands so often, watching turgid football so often, failing to create an atmosphere so often, feeling the players aren't trying so often, sitting in the cold so often, etc.

Something massive is going to happen in Scottish football soon, it simply can't go on the way it is at any level. What that will be I dread to think.

If all the clubs outwith the top two stopped cutting each others throats and just had a wage cap 500 a week in prem

250 in first etc (with money made up with bonuses)

then costs would drop, prices would drop

    attendences would rise.

  7. I agree wholeheartedly with this. I looked for the Arsenal score after the game out of interest, but there's no way i'd be watching another team on TV if my team was playing, and I could make it along. I understand that I am perhaps lucky in the sense that I have a 9-5.30 monday-friday job and live 15mins drive from Firhill. But if people actually think they have the choice and they decide not to go along to watch Thistle, well ... I honestly cant understand that.

I work 3 stops on the tube from firhill.

and maybe about 45 mins on the bus home after the game.

The idea of spending my hard earned to sit in the cold and dreich and watching thistle no longer excites me.

can it be long before first division football is £20 a game (if not at firhill at some grounds).

There needs to be a big change in how much players are paid etc to bring costs down.

then if its 10 quid to get in its no big deal!

  8. Hang on a sec. If I didn't go last night I wouldn't have been watching Barcelona v Arsenal. As far as I'm aware the game was on subscription tv, something I can't afford.

I could of course afford Sky TV if I didn't spend money on following the Jags. Now I'm not trying the holier than thou stuff but I do tho' think I've got my priorities in the correct order. Anyone can complain about gate prices but can still fork out however much it is a month for a satellite tv subscription. That's fair enough. Just don't come on here pleading poverty and complaining about pricing.

Btw that's not particularly aimed at above poster just more of a general observation. I'm sick and tired of hearing about gate pricing being too dear and if it was lower so and so would turn up. If gate prices were significantly cheaper this so and so could then perhaps afford a Sky TV package.

I cant afford sky tv, but the casino in town (glassford street) has free football, big screen, free tea coffee Irn bru and coke.....Now I have never gambled in a casino in my life, but I will happily sit in one for free to watch the football on a big sofa!

So before you have a go find out where I watched the game..

    A casino (nothing spent)

    A friends house

An online stream (Bad I know) :P

  9. I tried to phrase my post to make it generic rather than aimed at any specific individual. But you're one of the "problems" that the footballing powers need to try to get back into the habit of going to see their team whenever they can.

It's certainly not about being a good or a bad person; it's about a commercial organization losing its appeal to previously loyal and bonded customers/clients. When even guys like yourself are losing interest (even without excuses relating to the bunnet's preferred styles of players and play, etc.), then the situation is getting very serious. And again, clearly not just for Thistle, but for most clubs.

Make it specific, healthy debate and we are amongst friends here, but thanks for not having a go outright :D

I just find it hard to justify the cost as an every week type thing, if that makes sense.

I may take in the glasgow rocks (5 quid) one week, the braehead clan the next, a comedy club the next, or forego it all for a month and get a wee weekend away.

Football has to compete with so many other lesiure choices and at the current prices it just cant!

Hamilton V dundee united 3 weeks ago had 2000 punters so its not just me.

Bring the costs down others will return! (as would I)

    But it wont happen

  10. Of course there's no obligation for anybody to pay good money to see football, and I reckon most regular supporters miss some matches for one reason or another (I know that I do). But it certainly seems that there's an increase in the number of people (Thistle "supporters") who now just don't care whether Thistle decide to switch to part-time football and either stay in the lower leagues for ever more, or even go bust. If the latter happened, I've no doubt that some of them would join in all the wailing and mourning and accusations that the board never got the investment required, or invested enough in the team, or that the leagues and cups were boring, etc etc. Some of them even do that right now. But the bottom line is that they (those "supporters") just couldn't be bothered.

And some of them make a point of letting it be known on online forums that they can't be bothered.

This doesn't only apply to PTFC; I'm sure it's more widespread.

Anyone that knows me (and there are few on here) know I helped during save the jags and went before and went since

The post above is good and succint...But would I really miss Partick Thistle...I doubt it as I have the chance to go now but choose not to..

Does that make me a bad person

    I suspect it may.

I just cant muster the enthusiasm to pay the best part of 40 quid (plus a meal out as we cant go home after our day activities) to sit and watch football..

Maybe thats me getting old finding other priorities!

    I am rambling so apologies

  11. Exactly, but said fans can't then blow a fuse (as they have in the past) if we're continually in debt & facing part-time football &/or administration.

Maybe we could try living within our means....

    Look at groundsharing even.

Not the place for it, but sell firhill and share with clyde would secure our long term future?

  12. If you had known it would only have been £34, would you have gone?

Some people may choose Barca on tv, but when the club needs every penny it can get, I don't agree with it. Only my opinion though, everyone's entitled to do as they wish.

The club cannot survive on crowds of not much over 2,000, never mind 1,000. Something will give, yes Scottish Football is fecked up, but it'll still be here if we go out of business. The SFA/SPL don't give a monkeys if some of the 'smaller clubs' die, they'd be quite happy to go with the same 10/12 teams in the SPL every season.

    Sorry I meant 34 quid.

In this climate (financial and also meteoroligcal) I would rather have watched a dvd at home than pay 34 quid to watch first division football.

After 15-20 odd years I cant find the energy or excitement to go any more.

    Sad times

and by last nights attendence it was not just me

  13. Which wasn't even played then! Was postponed.

    1000 fans.

    Not tenable.

Ill be honest on a horrible wet night rather than paying 35 quid for me and the bird to go to firhill we watched arsenal barca!

  15. In his book "ByGone Days of Yore"(1990), The Rev. G A McCracken states that in 1912~1913 donations from prominent people including the Tory Mp Bonar law and the proceedings from a Glasgow Rangers VS Partick Thistle football match were used to erect a new Grand Orange Order hall at Cathedral street and North Fredrick street in Glasgow on 31st May 1913.
