  1. To have played so poorly and end up only one goal down is encouraging!

Brian Graham was unlucky all night with the break of the ball, and it's hard to imagine that repeating itself on Friday.

If we can start with the players we ended the game with, and play with the same intensity as the last 20 mins, we are far from done.

  2. Raith went through a lot of the season scoring in the last few minutes.  I don't know whether that was down to superior levels of fitness or good substitutions - or perhaps both.  Conversely, we for a spell conceded late goals as we remember all too well.  So I think Doolan has to be super smart with his initial line up and substitutions, and have a clear plan for the whole 90 minutes.  His focus I think should be in getting more from our midfield, and through that taking some of the pressure off Fitzy.

Fully agree. But ken Rosewall (who was four months short of his 40th birthday when he reached the Wimbledon final in 1974), enjoyed a beer and a cigarette, regularly played lengthy five set matches without visible signs of needing to be substituted...

As a keen tennis player, I watched Ken Rosewell at Wimbledon and when he played at Craiglockhart in Edinburgh with Lew Hoad, Pancho Gonzales et al.  The speed of play was far slower than today, so the comparison is false.

PS  Can't understand all these hate posts.

His record is no better than Doolan who is about the same age and also in his first manager job. Do you expect him to be moving on ?

Worried that someone might offer BBG a player/manager job if we don’t get promoted

Don't doubt your point about records, but other clubs will look at Airdrie's style of play and reason that with better players (especially up front) he would be a good signing.

  5. Don't know what tonight's best line up is, but after watching the Dundee United game, Doolan should pick players who reliably can make a simple pass to one of our players from 5 - 10 meters.  Are potential recruits to Thistle tested for colour blindness?

Anyway like others, I suspect Raith will be our first big test, and that the midfield is our weakness.

It sounds like a simple and logical thing to do, but the people we had on the park and the bench are those that are available for him to pick from. He tried something different against Dundee Utd and it was almost successful. Williams got injured. So that trial was aborted. He tried Milne at Centre back vs QP, which didn’t really work, but Adeloye coming on sparked a come back but he got injured. What would you do next ?

That's a fair question Lenziejag, and I have no expertise that would allow me to make credible suggestions for change.  However those on the bench last night are not the only options as you suggest.  Also he has the summer to improve the squad and time for those curently injured to recover, both of which would allow a change in tactics.

  7. Watched the game on TV last night so only saw what the BBC showed i.e. a fairly narrow view of the play.  That said, we have become far too predictable as many others here have said.

With the better teams able to nullify our wing play, Graham is effectively isolated.  The best chances last night came from quick (forward) passes in the centre of the pitch.  I'm sure Morton will have learned from last night if they didn't already know, and Saturday could be a difficult game to win.

Even if we make the play-offs, the chances of promotion are probably equal to the square root of bugger all, and so perhaps the time has come for Doolan to show some initiative and change the tactics, probably in preparation for next season.

That means jettisoning some stalwarts and strengthening the mddle of the pitch from the defence to midfield to broaden our attacking options.  If that involves risk so be it:  Doolan should now play the long game and prepare for next season.

How he does that will be a good measure of his managerial abilities.

  8. Given that the defensive set up is at the heart of our problems, would it not be possible for Doolan to get some advice and help from an experienced retired manager/player.  I agree with those arguing that it is too soon to judge him, but the man is inexperienced and needs help.

  9. Maybe the transfer window should be more about freeing up wages in loans or moves, than new faces.  That would make Doolan take decisions and concentrate minds.  We have a super abundance of slow midfielders with the result that every attack goes through Lawless or Fitzpatrick, and most managers are aware of that. The team is unbalanced.  Sneddon has his faults but he is often hindered by slow-witted outfield players. Any blame lies elsewhere.

Team looked really slow last night, both in movement and reaction times, and that was the greatest difference between the teams.  Not sure that a defensive coach is the answer.  As others have said we could do with a big, dirty central defender with a nippy central midfielder lying off him to create quick movement up the centre of the park.

All these points have been made many times, and I struggle to understand why Doolan persists with some players who reinforce the team's evident weaknesses.
