I'm surprised about the apppointment of a sporting director by a club of our size. I'm sure they don't come cheap and i wonder by how much the playing staff will effectively be reduced (or the quality of recruits).
It seems to signal a confidence in Doolan that will see him at the Club beyond the end of the season.
This also surprises me since a common complaint has been that he doesn't get full value from the players he manages, and that his tactical awareness is a bit lacking. I don't see how a sporting director will solve these issues.

I'm surprised Milne has not been snapped up by a Premiership side before now, and equally surprised he came to us in the first place. A severe blow if he leaves.

Upto this point, our attendances are up on average nearly 600 compared to last season and over 1000 compared to the season before.
Thanks for that. Any thoughts on the cause?

I haven't been to a game this season. I am therefore reluctant to pass judgement having seen only televised games. I miss watching Thistle, but find it difficult to motivate myself to travel 80 miles to watch players passing sideways and backwards for large parts of a game that is supposed to be entertainment. I would be interested to know if Doolan's style of play has reduced attendances.
I don't know whether Doolan is a good or a bad manager, but he doesn't seem to be a very proactive one. Substitutions are often made late in games, and the overall impression given is one of tinkering rather than of fundamental change. We will not be promoted if we continue to play the way we do. Doolan therefore has no choice but to take risks. If he doesn't, he will lose his job.
For what it's worth, if a change in managers is deemed neccessary, I would much prefer not to appoint another "Club Legend" and instead go for a wild card.

Need some info on the balance sheets to make any sense of the accounts.

These successes should be pointed out to some of our current squad, and some encouragement given.

This topic is dangerously close to reverting to Tranche 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Being a football manager must one of the few occupations where no regular, formal assessment of overall performance is done, and where no appropriate training is provided. Nor does there seem to be any discussion between Chair and manager about how things could improve, and what external advice or help could be provided. Does being a fan owned club make this (or more fundamental decisions) more or less difficult?

If change is to happen, that change needs to be a fundamental one, not another "Club Legend".

The only way facilities might improve is if people vote with their feet.

I will donate £20 to a charity chosen by the monitor of this forum if he or she shuts down the Tranche 2 ..... thread

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all our readers everywhere.

Maybe it's not physical fitness levels that are the fundamental problem. Players seem to be slow to make decisions, slow to move into spaces ahead of the ball carrier, and the resultant passes lack weight. All which slows everything down. That is why the speed of Lawless and Milne provides the only real threat.

The BBC commentators last night thought that Graham was being considered for the just vacated Scottish Woman managers post. Given his age, if I was Graham I'd jump at the chance. Leaves a big hole at Thistle if it happens.

If he does remember where the goals are, perhaps he would be kind enough to inform our midfield, who seem to think they are at the sides of the pitch judging by the direction of 99% of their passes.

Wow! What happened?
-
Just ignore him. Don't give him any encouragement by responding to him.

Not at match but reports here about unattractive football but win nevertheless may hopefully mean that players' confidence will improve and we can look forward to winning all of our remaining fixtures WITH STYLE!

As any correllation between match threads and results has still to be proved, I think that anyone should be free to start one whenever they wish. Just as long as they are willing to take the blame and the ire of the rest of us for defeats!
Would deflect the blame from the manager.

Does anyone still believe that the late start to new match threads is a lucky ploy?

It was relevant to Lenziejag's post, your grace.

Oor Gary is doing well at Exeter.

Why is there an assumption among posters that we would have to recruit any manager from the Scotland gene pool?
Maybe if we do need a new manager, we should go for someone from further afield, with new ideas and a different perspective in terms of potential players.
The Club needs a re-set in its thinking.

I think Doolan needs to be given a bit more time - drawing with the league leaders is not a sackable offence.
However if push comes to shove in the future - and I hope it doesn't - then the last thing we need is another "club legend" manager. The Club's history is littered with them.

An interesting thought Laukat. In terms of finance it would fit the stated plan. Also appointing Graham as manager would (unfortunately) continue our obsession with appointing "Club Legends". We would then have two inexperienced people in the two key posts.
I hope you are wrong.
