Perhaps inopportune timing a few days after the youngest player since the 19th century to score for us on his debut.

Yup, in a threadbare squad. Hendry and Lindsay, also got in when we had no other option. McCarthy struggled to get a game despite last season's midfield being the worst and most out of form for at least 6 years and probably more. Penrice recalled from a loan, MOTM against Celtic, barely seen again until now, when again we have no other option. A couple of decent development players let go when we have a threadbare squad.

If we have 4-5 first team or even squad players who are brought through by the end of next season then I will eat humble pie, but seems Archie prefers loans and journeymen to me.

  2. Seems odd that other players, e.g. Christie Elliott always get an update in the press or official site, that's all. As fans I think we generally like to know roughly how long a player might be out for or if he is likely to appear in a particular match. It is clear we are better with him in the team, even in his brief cameos over the last year or so. I think it is unusual for any club, and ours in particular, not to comment at all, even to say "Stuart is out for the long term and we can't really put a timescale on it.".

So why don't the club want to tell us? Notwithstanding the Sean Welsh 'back in 6 weeks' Experience.

Aye it says on Twitter site he has a knock and hasn’t been risked, no mention at all of Bannigan being injured on Jagzone, it’s as though he’s vanished off the face of the Earth.

Again. Why is Bannigan's fitness such a closely guarded secret?

Is there a particular reason this friendly is being played at the race track in Cowdenbeath?  Don,t see another topic for it. Is it because of ground laying at both home grounds maybe!

Because you get a slap up feed from the Indian restaurant right next to the ground.

  5. Hospitality is, on the whole, horrible value. If Ross can sell it out on a regular basis then fair play to him. Fans are treated very poorly by the club and I know my dad took it very hard that his oap season ticket price was put up and the league cup games removed. As a result he has not renewed.

1/2 the season to go and you want the club to start planning for relegation ?

Looking at our position every season we were in the premier league, either at Christmas or the end of the season, yes. It would be a sensible contingency, so that we would not be trying to cobble together  a list of targets at the last minute in the event of relegation. We obviously wouldn't get everyone on the list, particularly as other clubs certain of their league next year earlier than us, probably have been working on deals already, but it would be a good starting point.

For clarity, the club may have done this and if so, fair play.

  7. If at least by Christmas last year the club hadn't put together a list of targets that might be realistic for us playing in the Championship, as well as targets if we stayed up, I would find that startling and worrisome.

Does anyone have any idea what direction the Club is moving in because I haven't got a clue, glad we kept Cerny , Dools and Erskine for experience and who care about the club but all are over 30
Would have given the young players like Lamont and McLaughlin 1 year deals to see if they could be developed , does anyone else think the Academy is a total waste of money and resources ?
Either the scouting for the Academy needs a total overhaul because no players apart from Lindsay and McCarthy have came through in the last 5 years or the coaches aren't good enough and I include Archie and Scott Paterson in this
Got a feeling we're going to fill our team with journey man pros instead of developing our own players , hopefully I'm wrong.

I don't think that the younger players were necessarily not good enough, but Archie has no confidence in them. Hendry & Lindsay only got their chance due to injury and Penrice was a stand-out for Livi, but couldn't get into our woeful midfield or in at left back despite the injuries.

We've just released five of the development squad.

Yes, and I think releasing McLaughlin and Lamont is a mistake, but presumably we have more than 5 coming into the Development squad and the manager sees them as better prospects.

If we are looking at bringing in more than 8-10 permanent players I would be surprised.

Not sure if he's done enough at Stirling to prove he's going to make it at a higher level. LIB has said he's a bit small. Maybe he'll score plenty in the lower leagues?

Dools wasn't great at Clyde, he turned out okay... More of our young players should be given a chance, especially in the Championship. If they can't cut it then release them in Jan or the end of next season.

I think Archie did bring Osman back too quickly. In the Dundee game(key game for us in the relegation) he played well first half but tired second and that was the main reason why we lost that game.
It was a huge blow to the player's confidence.  Osman should have been given some more under 20 games to get him up to speed.  The fact that woods was also struggling last 20 mins added to what happened in those last 8 mins.

We really needed a big experienced center back in the window. That would have made the difference for me. Though maybe Archie had already spent his January window money on  McGinn and Woods?

I hope Archie will give us a detailed explanation of his thoughts on the relegation and what went wrong.

The board say they have money available now, surely an extra £40-60k to get a centre back in would have been available if Archie asked for it. It would have been better value than getting relegated.

Laura Muir one of the Worlds top Female Athletes trains along Maryhill Road - I pass her whilst out Running - she simply hammers it - no "body belt".

    ...

Lambie used Athletics Coaches for Fitness Training - he didn't use people from Football - he recognised Athletes training methods got people fitter and faster - he even had Specialist Sprint Coaches - Lambie was way ahead of his time on a lot of levels

    Show-off ;)

I have said on here previouly the fitness and sports science is not working as it should at the Club. Sprint coaches would be beneficial in my opinion, even if only for a day or two each week.

The line in the statement suggests that there is a 'Partick Thistle way' to play football. That players and managers are groomed through the academy to play and manage in the style that is expected, season after season. That's not the case. We're not Barcelona.

I thought that was the intention from the outset - to establish a 'Partick Thistle way' of playing. Are the academy teams not playing the sort of passing football that the first team used to?

  14. Where Archie has undoubtably failed is in replacing leaving players with the same or better quality replacements.  Higginbotham was never really replaced on the wing, Welsh (when he wasn't injured and stopped getting caught in possession), Lindsay for example. For all that those who have seen them think that the development boys are, in the main, not ready, I would rather have seen more of them than dud signings, players played out of position etc.

My memory must be failing me. I thought he was out of contract at the end of the 2002/3 season and left for better wages and longer contract? Was that not the summer we lost Alex Burns and Scott Paterson partly because our approach was only to sign players on 1 year deals as well as Lambie retiring to be replaced by Collins?

That is my recollection also. Transfermkt website supports it being a free transfer. Understandable that he didn't fancy playing under Collins and could presumably get more cash at DU.
