Think this underlines how difficult our preparation is going to be for this season... If/when Barton/Keown leave, and let's say its to the English league in August before they get fixed up, it really squeezes the time to find the right player who then gets thrown in at the last minute. Same with Storey. Also if they guys don't get fixed up elsewhere our squad presumably will be smaller in size since they are (I believe) still on SPL wages. If they go then maybe we get 4-5 players for their wages. And are the club bargaining on getting a fee for each, and if we don't are we impacted financially in terms of the playing budget for this season.....

Lump it all together and it has the potential to give us a faltering start to a season which the board expects to be a "bounce straight back up"...  I certainly don't and I seriously doubt the board really believe that either..  Making the play-offs would be success IMO.

AA also said (words to the effect) the clubs with the money get to sign their targets quickly. Clearly a reference to DU/Frans deal.   And DU may throw more money at it with their 700k windfall from Armstrong.

From the Board comments at the end of the season I was under the impression we would be highly competitive with signings. We pocketed something like £1million in prize money for finishing 11th. So I'm confused by AA 's comments and becoming concerned about our transfer activity compared with the likes of DU,RC etc

As usual when a team gets relegated the majority of the players want to leave the sinking ship as if they had nothing to do with it.As I have said in the past players, managers, directors and chairman come and go but us Thistle fans will remain.

Let's not make excuses here because of the fixture list.

Genuine answer - Hibs and St J were way winnable if we are serious. Today was a home game and frankly we should have won it.

I'll agree that anything from Celtic would have been a bonus. And even then if Dools sticks that header away.........

So 9 or 10 points then? That would have been a tremendous start given the fixtures! IMHO we are probably 4 or 5 pts off where we should be. Chucked away a point today in the last 5 mins for sure. I think though we look better than at this stage last season. Will we finish top 6? Possibly Hibs might take our spot.

  4. If Dallas sees it from behind the goal as per the replays he gives the pen. Don't think he sees the contact properly as Storey blocks his view. And on another day Doools scores his header. Poor first half from us. Decent 2nd. Turnbull, Sammon and Storey look like great signings on tonight's show. Onward and upward with a degree of confidence.

  5. ok we finished in 6 th position in the league great achievement but in reality what did we get out of it..The first 82 mins against rangers were great then we collapsed .Thursday night against Celtic was 5 going on 10...Today was just embarrassing. has any other team in the league been 5 down at half time all season???..I would have been happier to Finnish 7 in comfort and win games against the bottom 6...It would be interesting to know how much more money we made from our 6 place Finnish ..

A st johnstone poster on pie and bovril points out that in their 1st top 6 season their last 6 games were a disaster too. Not sure on money but I reckon we've got an extra 200k in revenue compared with 7th, based on rangers and Celtic crowds and the higher place finish. Hopefully that extra cash will help us push on and help us repeat what SJ have achieved in the next seasons

  6. 1958 aged about 18 months so can't remember against who. We lived in Bardowie St just off Saracen Street up to the age of 5 and remember walking to the games with my dad and being lifted over the turnstiles. I remember as a youngster also sitting on the wall behind the goal now the North Stand. 1st game on my own... cup game vs St Johnstone which we lost 1-8!

  7. So it's not a debate then it's you wanting to be negative . Facts are we've lost to 2 teams in the top 3 as it stands and to an Aberdeen team who will easily be top 6. in addition our goals for / against are not far off the rest of the teams. Our league performances except vs St Johnstone have been good. Let's see where we stand after the first round of games before getting all depressed.

  8. We have conceded 1 more goal than Celtic in the league and scored 1 less goal than St Johnstone who are 3rd. Slim margins making the difference early in the season....we were unlucky against both Aberdeen and Hearts and from what I've read might have nicked it vs Killie. Onward and upward.
