  1. Thinking about it, he was probably one of the first (if not the first) singer I ever saw live.

First gig as a sweaty 15 year old back in 1974-ish was Deep Purple at the Apollo (Green's Playhouse?). Ian Gillan had just left and they had replaced him with David Coverdale and released the 'Burn' album which was a fave at the time.

Support band were called Elf and were fronted by the then pretty much unknown Ronny James Dio. I have no geeat memory of the set but as they were on first he was in the first band I saw live!

    Anyhoo.....RIP Ronny.

  2. Well if your all feeling too old for festivals, check out High Voltage!

    http://www.highvoltagefestival.com/

Specifically designed for old metal heads, ancient prog rockers etc. The only people older than the crowd will be the bands themselves!

Joking aside, quality line up if you are of 1970's vintage and quite likely the last opportunity to see some of the bands before they go senile/enter a nursing home/die.

Not sure if it counts as a festival because even if you attend both days you have to leave at night and come back the next day!

Highlights for Saturday likely to be Focus, Asia, Transatlantic, Gary Moore with ZZ Top headlining.

I'm only going on the Sunday to see mainly Steve Hackett, Marillion, Wishbone Ash, Uriah Heep and the mighty ELP headlining.

    Canny wait!

  3.

At least the vast majority of LFC fans comre from the Liverpool area. Not like Man Urinal. Most of their fans comre from Kent.

Not in my experience. Lived in Kent for 20 years and vast majority support London teams, mainly Chelsea and Spurs with some Charlton and Fulham thrown in for good measure.

In that time only met one Man U fan (they are generally loathed down here)and, for balance, three Liverpool fans.

Not sure where they are but it ain't in Kent!

  4. Absolutely delighted for them.

Was at the Shakter Donestk game at the Cottage a few rounds ago and there was a cracking atmosphere plus one of the best goals I've ever seen 'live' from Bobby Zamora.

    Hope they win it!
