  1. The vagaries of the fixture list see Thistle heading for Pittodrie on Wednesday 30 December and fans wishing/able to attend (likely to be a very few, of whom I will be one) will face the need to take a day (or possibly two if the kick-off remains set for the evening) off work.

Even home fans might be less than enthusiastic about venturing out on what will inevitably be a cold and probably generally inclement evening.

Thistle supporters’ buses, though still costing the same for organisers, will be sparsely populated and, all in all, it’s a fixture most could well do without.

Even the clubs concerned are unlikely to relish the prospect, so why not take the obvious way out?

Scotland’s failure to make the Play-Offs for France 2016 was lamentable, but does mean that the week-end set aside for these matches is now free.

There are no fixtures scheduled for 14-15 November, no television agreements which would hold sway over the needs of mere fans and I am unaware of sufficient players from either squad who will be occupied on International duty at the time, although I may be proven wrong on that one!

Assuming, however, that this latter point does not prove an insurmountable stumbling block, why not request that the fixture be switched to 14/11?

Aberdeen FC would certainly get a bigger attendance and therefore increased revenue.

Partick Thistle would find the fixture less onerous both financially and logistically than the midweek alternative.

Fans of both clubs would surely benefit and find a Saturday, or even Sunday, fixture in November preferable to an evening match sandwiched between Xmas and New Year?

In fact, with the exception of those sides with a multitude of players on International duty (few and far between I suspect) the SPFL could do us all a favour and switch the entire fixture list scheduled for 30/12 to the free weekend.

An opportunity to prove that football doesn’t actually operate a business where the customer is always right irrelevant???

  6. Jim and, soon to be League Cup hero, Hugh Strachan formed a less than succesful defensive partnership during the former's period at Firhill.

Those of a certain vintage may recollect that it was referred to as Rowan & Strachan's Laugh-In!

  9. We go straight up with only a toilet stop (although there is a toilet on board).

This allows us to arrive in Dingwall with at least a couple of hours for food and drinks prior to kick-off.

We normally head straight back after the game since most people prefer to be back in the Celestial City ASAP.

NB the 2130 return estimate is conservative, it should be earlier than that.
