  1. I think we have short memories, the quality and range of stuff from Greaves was better than anything we had before and being able to buy it in the city centre was fantastic.

Couldnt disagree more. The 'quality' of the strips is an utter disgrace. The material is cheapest of the cheap and very flimsy. If the strip was, say, £25 then i could understand but when you are paying £45 for something that is as poor quality as what we have then it doesnt make sense. Im hoping we ditch Puma with the end of the Greaves deal. Anyone remember the Secca strip? I still have mine from the Div 2 winning season and it puts the Puma stuff from the past two seasons to shame.

    BRING BACK SECCA!

Terrible news for Bolton fans - "Former Wolves' manager Mick McCarthy is among the front-runners to replace Coyle. Roy Keane, who guided Sunderland to promotion into the Premier League, is also regarded as a possible candidate."

McCarthy is a decent manager at Championship level and I would fancy him to get them into the playoffs this season and, if they dont win the playoffs, then id expect them to challenge for the title next season.

  3. I've always liked Craig since his Motherwell days so I'm delighted with his signing. I happen to think he'll be a great foil for Doolan; his movement off-the-ball has always been very good and he has a good work rate so this should allow Doolan to stay more central and, hopefully, be in a position to score even more goals. Whisper it...he is also excellent at diving and taking the pressure off by drawing fouls. Very astute piece of business, in my opinion.

Another midfield option before the window shuts and I'll be a happy man.

This is an area that Christie Elliot particularly lacks in. Hes fit as a fiddle but looks clueless at times as to where to move. I thought being at the club for some time now with Kris Doolan, who i think is the best in the business in the first division, would have benefitted Elliot but it hasn't. I know a lot of folk would like to see McGuigan go out on loan but I wouldn't be against Elliot getting some regular football elsewhere for 6 months.

As has been mentioned above, I see Craig more as a partner for Dools rather than backup.

Whatever happens - Loving the attitude this team has. On the playing side, this has to be one of the best Jags squads we have had in a long while. Would love to get Jackie signed up on a long term deal!!!

  4. So, was the player you were referring to Hugh Murray?

Where does this Lawless fella play? By my reckoning, if we get Welsh then all we need is a proven striker and we have a very good squad (assuming Muirhead can offer the versatility people are saying he can). If John Baird signs (highly unlikely I think) then great, if not, do we have a chance of getting Donnelly from Airdire?

    No

  5. I guess one will be the lad from Annan, the big signing and maybe a young player? Defender, midfielder and striker please :)

Nice to see things getting tied up early doors. We've got the nucleus of a decent squad. I'm fearing a bout of positivity from now until the season kicks off :P

Id imagine Welsh would be one of the singings.

  6. I still dispute that he can "play in a few positions".

Me too. Always known him to be a striker. Just because someone gets played in a position does not mean he can play there. Anyone remember Dick playing The Hoor at left wing back for a half of a game?!?!?!

  7. If the rumours I'm hearing are true and we are about to get Roddie McDonald on board (another error from the previous board rectified) then my trust will rise even more.

Are these rumours regarding Ronnie McDonald from a reputable source or from pie and bovil type folk who are putting two and two together and making 5? Think McDonald getting involved would be a positive move but no idea if he is even keen to get involved in football again.

  8. Sorry, but that's total nonsense. I think Jackie has finally realised that Paton is totally wasted in midfield. I presume the only thing you're basing the "natural captain" assertion on is his tenacity which isn't limited only to when he plays in midfield.

    Agree 100%

  9. Completely agree. Remember this is a guy making his first start in the pro game. Thought he did pretty well.

Bannigan man of the match by a long way. Our season may be drifting to a close but the last few games have been very promising from him.

Dont think thats quite true. He played under Dick Campbell at Forfar apparently. Thought McGuigan was poor today but no way he was nearly as bad as Elliot. Cannot see what Elliot offers at all and I wouldnt be too sad to see him have his contract cancelled by mutual consent in the summer. If he does stay then i reckon a 3 month loan deal would be beneficial for him next season.

*Apparently he didnt play for Forfar after all.... Apologies

  10. Final ball tonight was horrendous. Stephen O'Donnell was particularly poor in that regard. Also, the amount of times he is caught up the park and clearly makes no effort to get back is concerning. Thought Paton had a solid game and Sean Welsh looks to have a bit of class and creativity about him when on the ball. If Cairney was being scouted tonight then i don't think we have much to worry about as he was totally anonymous.

  11. Much like Saturday, I thought we were the better footballing side without creating any chances. We will continue to draw / lose games if we do not start creating even half chances. Its all about opinions and dont grudge anyone theirs but I honestly cannot see the logic in even considering sacking Jackie. If we are no better this time next year then perhaps we could consider a change in management but until then id persevere. He is clearly a rookie manager though and is making mistakes, it is his ability to learn from these mistakes that he should be judged on. I still feel that the team is lacking a real leader on the park. I love Archie and consider him a Thistle legend but he has never been the type of player to grab the team by the scruff of the neck and drag them through the game.

Positives first - Was pleased to see that Jackie was prepared to admit his mistake from saturday of playing Flannigan and dropped him completely from the 16. He shouldnt get near a Thistle jersey again. I though Naismith looked decent with a good bit of football about him and he beat his man a good few times in the first half. Cole was ok but tired considerably at the end.

Negatives - Our inability to create any goalscoring chances. We are crying out for a bit of creativity in the middle of the park. Strikers are not going to score by continually coming deep for the ball. Can we please lay to rest all notion that Kieran Burns is any sort of footballer? He is far too lightweight and looked completely disinterested after about 10 minutes having realised he wasnt going to get a sniff against Mensing. Burns visibly chucked it in just about every 50/50 he should have been involved in. It has to be said that this was a masive misjudgement by McNamara to play Burns against Mensing. Someone suggested a week or two ago that we should consider starting with Burns and Fraser... Lunacy! Burns is hopeless and Fraser, a headless chicken. If our youngsters are clearly not good enough then we must accept that and move on. Paul Cairney has to be moved back into the centre of the park as hee is wasted wide. As soon as the Hamilton defence had realised that he would be cutting inside all the time he was far less effective. I like Stephen O'Donnell and reckon he is, potentially, a decent player but he is clearly very low on confidence and should be dropped for a couple of games to give him a break. He panicked nearly every time the ball came near him and this almost cost us a few times.

All in all (and i know some will find this ridiculous) I still dont think we are massively far away from being a decent side. If we could get a striker and a creative attacking midfielder then we would be causing teams a lot of problems. As it is, we lack any sort of link between midfield and attack and do threaten opposing defences at all.
