  1. Correct decision, he deserves the chance to get us back to playing attractive & effective football and to get us back up next yr...

Massive rebuild job, I wonder if there's a new role created / additional responsibility for someone else to help with player recruitment...

  2.

Sorry , so your suggesting that our free kicks and corners tonight were good? 2 out of how many?

I so wish we were good at things like set pieces, corners etc but we aren't. Ok we scored one tonight thanks to a terrific Barton header despite being fouled but did you see any other corner/ free kick cause problems apart from Devines scoop over the bar from 3 yards? Look at the free kick second half 25 yards out. Gavin Hastings would have been proud of that.

The only proper save their keeper made was a cross that hit shay Logan's napper and nearly ended up as an own goal.

No I said a couple of corners....It was two decent ones more than normal!! Devine probably should have scored his chance too...

  3.

Well the only time I thought, wow why don't we do that every time, was Lindsay's throw in late on. I have missed the last couple of games as I've been away on holiday and before that it was 4 at the back with the usual left and right back standard throw ins down the line and flicks one to.....noone.

It's a huge potential weapon, one which I think we need to expose more especially if our corners and free kicks are rubbish.

Movement in box and even delivery for a couple of the corners tonight was surprisingly good, Devine unlucky in 1st half and obviously the goal...more of that please.

  4.

No idea what this means, explain and I'll try to elaborate.

You're a bit stupid then aren't you...or just trying to be a smart arse...

Ryan Edwards.....my view that he has an unfortunate inability to retain possession....see one of your previous comments where I think you questioned my footballing insight...

I don't need you to elaborate thanks.

  5.

I'm sure when you left Dens park and McDiarmond you were saying the same. What insight you have.

    Hahaha....

You actually trying to argue he doesn't?.....

U think he was top drawer in Perth ?

Let's agree to disagree I think....

  6. So the 2 strikers hit the net in past couple of games, but both are subbed and we play a quarter of the game with no strikers?!? WTF?

Edwards should have been hooked at half time and replaced by Erskine.

Shat it against a big team again.

Not a big fan of edwards either...he gives it away too much

  7. Only Archie could take off both our strikers at 2-1 down and move to 3 at the back. Makes you wonder why we even bother turning up against the likes of Aberdeen. Easiest 3 points they will pick up all season.

moving barton into midfield allowed aberdeen to score their second...devine is gash unless barton is alongside in a 3

  8. move barton into midfield for a bit and our central defence goes to pieces again and the aberdeen boy scores a good goal...wish we'd stayed with barton deeper in the back 3 after his goal...

    we are pretty toothless upfront

    Thistle in TV defeat shocker!!

  9. The fact remains Brown is the wrong side of thirty. Even if he's got a few more years left in at international level we most certainly shouldn't be building a team round him. He's now available to be selected again like every other Scottish footballer, who didn't have the arrogance to announce his retirement from international football. As for McGhee, I think he said Brown was certainly the best Scottish born player currently playing in Scotland. I doubt that's true but even if it is it is an incredibly stupid thing for someone involved in the Scottish team management to say. Undermine present and future international players to bolster the ego of a guy whose ego definitely doesn't require bolstering.

Whilst I don't agree with the retiring from international football decision - you play until your not picked anymore - Im not sure we are building a team around him as you put it, he'll be back in for the England game and I am sure that'll be it - a game we need some decent options and leaders to play in....I'd love it if we were able to call upon an abundance of talent for games but we aren't and to give ourselves a slim chance of getting results we need to play our best players, like it or not, brown is one of them...

I'd love to know who is Scottish and performing better than him right now...answers on a postcard please and get them in the team

  10. An embarrassing act of desperation by Strachan.

    I think that's a bit strong...

He's not a world beater by any means, but he is better than anyone else in that midfield role. His form is good right now and after the toothless performances in recent games from us he's needed.

  11. Yesterday was a prime example of why crowds are poor and why going to Firhill on a Saturday afternoon is falling further and further down the agenda for people....that game was worse than rubbish (from both sides), surprised there wasn't a q for refunds at the end.

£22 isn't great but also time is a factor for people, we all work hard and the weekend becomes even more important - why waste 3 hours on a saturday to watch that and have to pay for the privilege??

Thistle were toothless and had no fluency to their play...1st half average, changes baffled me in 2nd - azeez is no superstar but we were more effective when he was on the pitch. Welsh, whilst not particularly brilliant was at least trying to get the play going. The only player who looked bothered was erskine and nothing was happening for him and as for Cafu (ziggy) I wish he would do his talking on the pitch - must be embarrassing to be given man of the match and for the majority of the stadium to laugh! Not bothered if we go back, side to side etc as long as we keep the ball, do it at a decent tempo / with purpose and then look to penetrate the opposition, we don't do that though and allow teams like yesterday to close shop.

As for st J - they are horrible to watch - 300 travelling fans says it all. Get in front and then kill the game, that'll attract the punters eh? they're a top 6 scottish side though...football is so mince in this country!

Still annoyed by that "entertainment" yesterday!!

  12. Favourite thistle player by a mile right now but Erskine isn't international quality I am afraid - he also plays in an area of the park that we are pretty well covered for internationally right now...if he were a centre half though...

  13. The split nonsense is ultimately what causes this issue....afraid it is a fact that these two carry bigger supports so not only do we lose that impact but others benefit from it...can't we just have a bigger league of 16/18 and keep it straightforward pls?

Yet again the game is geared up for two teams in this country and the short sightedness and lack of bigger picture shown means the quality we watch and young player development is stifled, felt keenly whilst we watch another national tournament without a Scottish presence.

Pleased thistle have made this point and statement is appropriate...unlikely to get the result it is aiming for though. In my opinion it is the lack of bigger picture / collective-good thinking, i.e. the administrators / governing body that kills the game here, not individual clubs.

  14. Nit picking, WJ, but I definitely don't accept that playing at a high intensity is our only chance. We could for instance try to absorb all Hearts can throw at us and hit them with a sucker punch. In fact I'm not that sure that playing with three central defenders leans towards an in your face type of game. i say nit picking as I kinda share your opinion re being more aggressive, certainly in relation to last week.

It wouldn't surprise me if Archie has taken his gospel from our 11 away games that exclude our last visit to Tynecastle. That's 10 goals for against 8 goals against and only 4 defeats. That form is very impressive and I'd suggest it was achieved by striking a balance between playing a high intensity game and being too defensive.

Clearly not only way to win but with Hearts you need to compete from the start and earn the right to have the ball and create chances...if you don't they will bully you, get a lead then start to pick passes around you. Definitely need to get in their faces and compete regardless of how you set up...and definitely from the off as they start games at pace.

Anyways they were clearly running scared as that game should never have been off!! I live close to tynecastle and the overnight rain/sleet and snow that came on around 12 shouldn't have stopped a game - their pitch must be poor drainage wise.

  15. I think the negative feeling towards this game is down to the fact that they've rolled over us twice already this season...we were gash in both games, so understandable. The team seems defeated before they walk onto the park when they play this hearts team or whenever we play celtic...except for the Jan game at parkhead when we had a go...

so only chance we have tomorrow is to forget who we are playing and get steamin in, play at a high intensity from the off, make it hard for them, defend well and create some openings and take our chances...not walk on the park with the wrong attitude otherwise we will get stuffed.

  16. Can't believe the sheer ignorance of some people here. Claiming to be "distinctly underwhelmed" as if they are the oracles of world football and Archie hasn't met their standards of player recruitment. They've probably done little or no research about the 2 signings but assume that because they haven't heard of them that they aren't going to cut it. Had anyone here heard of Osman, Higgy, Dumbuya or even Callum Booth before we signed them?

Anyone who does even 2 minutes worth of research on this lad from Celtic will find out that he is one of the most highly rated youngsters to come through the ranks at Celtic for a long time. I've spoken to numerous Celtic fans who actually think he should be in their first team just now and are quite disappointed that they won't see him this season. There is absolutely no doubt, this is a great signing for us.

The fact that some people on here don't think so, based on all the evidence available, really does speak volumes about their judgement, their overall stupidity, and their ridiculous vendettas against the manager.

Spot on mate, afraid Archie has to work really hard to bring quality in and we are probably up against teams who can pay more for some of our targets hence many are left field signings...for what its worth, Higgy and Booth I was well aware of (Booth always impressed me when we played Livi when he was loaned there, especially going forward) but Osman, Dumbuya I had no idea about....here's hoping the latest additions make an impact. Excited about the boy from Celtic.

I think some people watch a wee bit too much Jim White around this time of yr and expect us to bring in household names all over the shop...

I am sure if there are unattached players around now the window has shut, Archie will bring them in if he thinks they can add to the group.

Christ Erskine: Partick Thistle to sign Dundee Utd player in summer

Wow - not sure he's that good!

Saw that as well! thought it was my eyes.

Great to have him back, a player that excites in a thistle jersey, no doubt he will have his fair share of bad games but this signing had me getting that wee warm feeling...like when he came back on loan, or when taylor came on loan, or when Lambie used to sign Chic.

    Delighted with this.

  18. Surely there is a better chance of a Scotland cap playing at Aberdeen than at Luton or earning the bench at Wigan? Either way, the midfield isn't Scotland's main weakness by any means as there are generally English premier league players in those positions.

Not saying he should go to Luton or that level and your point on better chance of a cap at Aberdeen if he does well is fair one, all I am saying is he has the ability to kick on with the right move (preferably England) and knock on the door of the Scotland team not walk straight into the current side.

His next move is critical and he has the ability to play at championship level in England week in week out in my mind...that's just my opinion based on his ability, athleticism & attitude. If a club at that level doesn't want him then an Aberdeen may be the only option for him.

  19. Hold him until the summer, we aren't desperate for the cash. Think he is better than Aberdeen & spfl level, he needs to pick the right club down south and further his career there.

Hard being a Thistle man when this happens, always will be the case though, we need to try and ensure the weir academy conveyer belt starts throwing out some more quality and Archie can supplement with the gems that he finds to take the edge off losing guys like Banzo.

  20. Gutted we will lose Banzo...

He's been brilliant for us over a number of seasons. Really grown with the club in recent yrs. Quality player who also puts a shift in.

Hope we can keep him till the summer and hope he can get himself the right move in the summer. would prefer if he went south and stretch himself, he has the ability to knock on the Scotland door if he kicks on.

great tv clip - my two favourite Alans on the telly!
