  1. At the game didn't think it was a pen, on alba didn't think it was a pen...at best it was shoulder to shoulder, at worst it was a st mirren player trying to get goal side of Higgy before falling over...never a pen but ref thought it was and that's what counts.

Ref was gash last night, blatant corner for st mirren at one stage in 2nd half when he was right there and then booked ats for a lunge where he pulls his right foot back when going 50 50 with Goodwin.

Should have won last night like many games this season and I can't believe we haven't beaten them more than once this yr but I think we will be ok in the end. Doolans movement and higgys cross for the goal worth the admission alone...

Defence more solid without gabby. Craigan gets himself into some great positions, just wish he had the quality to deliver when he gets there...

  2.

Read my last post again. "Campbell was shoite" but you've hit the nail on the head with the Miners son from Fife patter.

Archie a club legend in many folks eyes & genuinely think that's clouding some folks opinions.

I'm not advocating for him to be sacked this moment. I'm merely saying I'm not convinced he has the tactical nous or managerial ability to cut it at this level.

Time will tell. I hope I'm proved wrong- & would be first to admit it if I am- but honestly think he's punching above his weight.

If Campbell had been manager of that team yesterday or for that matter the manager of a team that had thrown away umpteen points in the last 5 minutes in games there would, rightly, be uproar.

Archibald does it & it's a case of he's still learning.

Football a funny 'business'. In real life business you wouldn't give a manager's post to someone who hadn't completed their apprenticeship or worked at an advanced level but that's what we've done.

I hope it doesn't cost us.

We gave the job to someone who proved they can do it by taking us up last season in the manner he did it...He has made mistakes, he will make many more I am sure but he will guide us through....as I said, next season will be pivotal one for him and us...

So many individual errors have cost us goals and points this season, he needs to bring in some solid pros at the back so we tighten up and compliment the good forward play we have seen again this year, better teams punish those errors.

  3. First up, I was playing devils advocate but interesting people are questioning my sanity.

    Let's look at the facts.

Campbell took over a sinking ship & although he was the man that ultimately took us down, the seeds were sown by the BoD of the time, Gerry Collins then Britton & Whyte. He was tasked with getting us out the second division which he did the consolidate our position in Div 1 - which he never got chance to finish as BoD acted as felt he was tactically inept for the league.

Plenty folk arguing that Archibald got us up & is tasked with keeping us in the SPFL. Not too dissimilar to Campbell albeit a league lower. No?

So continuing in the devils advocate mode..,

Progress.... ??? Not sure you can say that. We're going backwards in terms of league position & style of football we're playing.

Good young players... Average age of the team has gone up since 1st game of season & young players being pushed aside for experience- Fox, SoD, Muirhead, Craigen.

Good style of football.... Has been sacrificed of late & seen more long balls in past 3 months than in past 2 seasons put together.

As did Dick Campbell so why were you not keen on him?

& what's Archie's excuse for not being able to react through the games when other managers can?

Can you answer that for me?

Read my 1st point again...Archie got us promoted to a higher league with good football and by a decent margin in the end...the miners son from fife struggled via pens with honking football...there is no comparison...you genuinely think there is?

Your selective positioning of less younger players neglects the fact that our team includes Fraser, Taylor, Higgy and even though I am not a fan piccolo, or don't u see these boys as young players?banzo, McMillan, etc etc

Archie has made loads of mistakes but he has also done some good this year too...next season is key as this will show us how Archie and the club react to us staying in this league or dropping down. Either way I am glad we have a young forward thinking manager vs a clown like your mate dick leading us through it.

  4. I'll be interested to know who backed Dick Campbell long term.

The guy got us up & would probably would've kept us up but got the sack.

What's the difference between him & Archibald?

    Really??

Let's start with the manner in which Archie led us to promotion...

  5.

As much as that's the far end of the scale, after last night, i think you will see less and less Thistle fans attending these games. Regardless of them having a season ticket or not.

Take your point and you are probably right, it's a shame and cracks me up cos I want us all to watch our team regardless of who rolls into town...in a funny kind of way it makes me want to go to these type of games even more...

  6. JLSARMY - not all of us look for a scapegoat. As I said in my post, it's all about opinions. I've watched the game again and to me, Gabby looks lost at 3 of the goals. First one he is looking round to see where Stokes is, looks away and then looks back and oops shocker - he's moved from where he was. His positioning at the other goals was questionable - had a couple of times when he could have closed down quicker instead of backing off. But hey, I'm not saying other defenders were not culpable - just pointing out that in my opinion he could have done a lot better at them.

No scapegoating - just stating my opinion.

agree with this, the big man has a lot to learn defensively...also thought Mair played poorly last night too
  7.

Totally agree with this on safety grounds and financially.

If the ball was on the other foot and we were desperate for tickets to see our team win the championship we would have done the same. And remember Scots fans have done the same at Wembley many times.

Thanks to the "I'm a season ticket holder and I own this seat" brigade, Thistle lost out on at least an extra £50k.

bit of a stupid last sentence really.
  8.

They have more to worry about than evicting people for supporting their team in the way than football fans do.

what like searching people for flares as they walk into a ground? I say it in jest but to stand back and blame thistle for Celtic fans jumping about in the thistle end without having a word in their ear kind of makes their presence pointless. Also watched some of our fans looking a bit daft moaning to police then trying to square go them from 20yrds....as I said, doesn't bother me, I go to watch my team play good football and win matches.
  9. I know it's not this team's style, but sometimes I feel a bit of anger might be helpful, even from within the team. Where's the heart of the team?

I know what you mean...two bullying centre halves that can pass as well brought in over the summer please!!

  10. Our defence, especially the right side and central areas has cost us so many points this season...again thought our midfield looked good against a good side tonight, banzo n Fraser passed it well in the most part....at 3-1 Archie did the right thing getting our 3 forward players off to save them for the weekend...Elliott also took his chance well.

Not surprised at all by the result, the wrk starts from sat and then into the post split games, that's when we need to deliver.

  11. Stewards and police very poor tonight. Celtic supporters in Thistle section should not have been allowed to blatantly goad the home fans who objected to their presence. It was clear that, had their been any trouble as a result, Jags fans were most likely to be evicted. Club to blame without a doubt.

So wait a minute, thistle need to tell the police how to do their jobs then? Agree with your first sentence mind, openly heard the police blaming thistle for selling them tickets, bit of a cop out for me...if u pardon the pun...this was always going to happen tonight..we have more things to worry about like getting back to winning football matches.

  12. He was top drawer today...was annoyed though that we didn't seem to learn from the killie game and were flat footed for the re bound...thankfully he saved the day twice. Would have been a different day had that gone in I fear.

Also he reminds me of his dad which brings back great memories of watching thistle at kilbowie as a wee boy!

  13. Love the boy, he is class...so pleased my favourite thistle player of recent times (with banzo) is playing for us in the big league even if it's only for half a season. His touch, vision and awareness is brilliant and just fits into the thistle way. Wish we could keep him and Taylor for next season.

I also think Higgy has improved in the last few games..his delivery has especially been good recently.

  14. Agree both had excellent games today, Stuart is in a great run of form at present. Not putting a negative in but before we get carried away they are both still young and will have off days when they do remember these performances and cut them some slack they will have earned it.

Agree, but...the better games will outweigh the bad.

  15.

    Legend?!

Yup. Every time he pulled a Scotland Jersey on he gave his all, scored some crackers in big important games, had a swagger in blue and raised his game on the international level and is a footballers footballer, even at firhill when they pumped us he ran the show without breaking sweat....I assume u didn't mean to add the ? After the word legend on your post.

  16. On the way back from Fir Park on Saturday, my 10 year old son kept asking me why the loud prick behind us (my words, not his) kept shouting " you're a ******* nobody, McFadden." The reason he was asking is because watching Faddy's goal against France on YouTube has, along with many other great goals over the years, including Narey's toe poke, formed part of his football education. As far as my boy is concerned, Faddy is up there with the great Scottish players, and so he couldn't quite get why this bozo keep shouting pish at him. I started talking about banter being part of the game but then corrected myself....the loud prick was just a loud prick bumping his gums. It made me wonder a bit...are players like Faddy fair game for this kind of stuff or is he due a bit more respect for what he's done for the national team?

I tend towards the bit more respect side...

Faddy is a legend, brought many moments of joy watching Scotland in what has been a difficult last decade for the national team...

  17.

Your avatar is an utter disgrace.

How about some respect for a guy who gave us 2 promotions as a player and one as a manager.

To compare him to Campbell is nothing short of contempt for a jags legend.

You need to take a long hard look at yourself. We really don't need clowns like you when we're in a relegation battle.

Never even noticed that until u highlighted....oh dear!! Words fail me on that comparison!!!!

  18.

Many good points made here, just one thing you seem to have overlooked though. I don't have any blind loyalty to Archie, I am quite capable of assessing the games and judging if the management team could have reasonably affected the game for a positive result, the harsh reality is that with a few exceptions no manager could have influenced the game. Everyone seems to be getting hung up on the points lost in the last 5 mins many have pointed to the fact we didn't make changes others such as yesterday's game that we did make changes and more often than not it's the usual suspects levelling both criticisms depending on what suits their agenda or lack of intelligence best.

What about the previous 85 mins we have dominated enough games to win them long before the last 5, is that Archie's fault not in my opinion it's just simply whilst this team is very good at maintaining possession and creating chances we simply don't have the collective guille to get the job done or manage the game when it matters. If Archie is to blame it's for putting this team together and I haven't seem many referring to this when they criticise him. Maybe that's because that's too complex for them and they can only judge based on the score or cliches from the press.

I've said it before and I'll repeat it now this is a very entertaining team and one that I enjoy supporting with a bit of good fortune we will avoid the playoffs if not we will need to deal with them. That doesn't automatically mean we need to change the manager.

    Well put

  19. For all the naysayer's, believe it or not, Archie isn't immune from from criticism.

Course he isn't immune, I am sure he is aware of his mistakes too....As frustrating as yesterday was, we are at supposedly one of the top sides and more than competed, this time last yr that was miles away, I'd say that is progress. Who's to say another manager wouldn't have got us promoted and in the top 6, I guess we will never know...but we will stay up because we are better than at least one team around us...stay up and that is more progress for me, then we go again...
