  1. State - occasionally the Woodside. Used to go to Munro’s but stopped for the same reasons given by other contributors - no football on TV and reduced beer choice - plus you used to be able to pick your own music via an app but that was binned in favour of bland pish played on a loop.

My advice to all Jags fans would be not to go to the game..How many times over the years have we turned out in massive numbers for crunch games only to be on the end of a doing... The only positive result in recent years that comes to mind was the 1 nil win vs Morton at home..

Dumfries is my favourite Scottish football jolly, so will definitely be there.

As mentioned above - Peterhead - I’d given up and wasn’t going to go but the manner of the victory made it one of my highlights of following Thistle (even took the car, so wasn’t a booze cruise away day).

  3. They’re going to open the terracing (Terregles Street) if the demand is there (which it will be).

I’m concerned ScotRail will only have a two-carriage 156, like the Scottish Cup game last season (a ScotRail employee requested four carriages for that train but it didn’t happen  - so I was told by ScotRail chap on the day).

  4. Lamont went on to manage Falkirk again (briefly), Dumbarton and Alloa - I was curious, so looked up the incredibly reliable Wikipedia...

It’s between Lamont and Johnstone for worst manager during my time attending Thistle matches. Plenty of other strong candidates though.

Season before last, top 6, everyone would have thought we'd push on to become a mainstay premier club, possibly win a cup or qualify for europe. I know i did. But instead we hit freefall, go down by a goal ffs and find ourselves in a championship relegation battle.

    Everyone? Only the delusional.

He reminds me a lot of Brian Gallagher who was one of Lambie's first signings. On paper it looked a great signing. A fast striker playing at a higher level, scored a reasonable amount of goals and even a hat-trick in Europe. He puts on a Thistle shirt and he can't hit a barn door. He only scored 2 goals for us and I have vague recollections of a discussion about creating a t-shirt saying 'I was there when Gall scored'

Gallacher remains one of the worst players i have seen in a Thistle shirt.

  7. He also knocked back the Thistle manager's job in 2003 - I'd forgotten about that.

A Maryhill lad as well (going back to his one-man pitch invasion).

  8. No, just no.

Loved him as a Thistle player but will never forgive him for running on the pitch at Firhill when Dundee scored (when he was their manager) - absolutely nothing wrong with celebrating but his reaction was way over the top.

  9. A very sad day. Had my best times supporting Thistle when he was manager - e.g. promotion in 92, consecutive promotions in his third spell, run to Scottish Cup semi...

I remember standing outside Meadowbank one Saturday waiting for a lift (from a St Mirren fan who was at Tynecastle that day) when the players were boarding their coach - JL offered me a lift back to Glasgow on the team bus - a gent.

I don't subscribe to the view that Archie's (and Shaggy's for that matter) lack of animation in and around the dugout has any bearing on our performances. As pointed out in other threads there's a lack of effective leadership on the field. Certainly in the positions, midfield and central defence where leadership is at its most effective. The lead by example ethos appears to be missing from the more senior players in these positions. Take the deep defending in too many games this season as an example. Managers at all levels tell us there's little they can do change that from the sidelines. What's required is a strong character(s) on the field with a bit of nous to change things around. Where the manager is to blame is in not having that sort of leadership on the park (in the squad?). Ironic as in many ways Archie was that type of player/captain.

btw ....Be great if all we needed was a manager that jumped around like a madman. Long as he didn't jump around with his arms folded as he'd just look like a Russian dancer.
