My mind may be playing tricks on me - but I am pretty sure the penalty was before the Cardle/Muirhead incident?

Correct, but there was an earlier incident to the one you mean  (was it with Harvie?). That wee sh1te Dodds was screaming for Bunter to take him off.  Actually I was rather delighted to hear Cardle putting himself about.

  2. As regards the penalty, even that horrible wee sh1te Dodds was hypercritical of the referee's decision, absolutely slaughtered him for it. Mind you he spent the other 89 minutes drivelling as usual including saying about 10 times 'Cardle should have  been off the park for the kick and the elbow. It did occur to me that in giving the penalty the ref was 'compensating' for having been lenient with Cardle. Terrible result, but at the end of the day, Ayr didn't tear us apart.

It was just as bad with McParland. I went to a Scottish League versus, I think but not sure, Irish League match at Hampden.

Davie Wilson of Rangers was the first choice left winger for Scotland at the time but was not at his best. A good game  and McParland was in!

The left half was Jim Baxter of Rangers. He was dreadful in that game and nearly all of his passes to McParland on the left wing were over hit and Davie couldn't get to them.

As I had never seen Baxter pass the ball so badly I thought it was deliberate to protect his pal Wilson's Scotland place. There were quite a few comments in the press along these lines and especially about Davie getting another chance. Davie, being the gentleman he was, accepted responsibility and commented 'he felt a yard slow on the night'! I completely lost respect for Baxter after that game.

Some time later my father, a Morton fan and a pal of Davie, told me my suspicions were correct! He  worked all his life in the newspapers  and pick up lots of bits of 'inside' information but he wouldn't tell me his source other than it came from Ibrox!!

A blind man could have seen what Baxter was up to but not the SFA.  I suspect they knew but didn't want to take on the mighty Glasgow Rangers by dropping Wilson.

    Apologies for length of post.

I'd heard that before too. Totally believe it.

The utter MISERY of people on here who don't want Doolan back.

Oh, wait ... it's the same people who are miserable about the signings in this transfer window, who are miserable about Archibald being back even as an assistant, who are miserable about McCall but were miserable about the manager before that, and the one before that, and so on. The last three years have been an absolute boon for you all. I'm sure you'll all be as happy as pigs in shite sitting in Firhill being wet and cold and miserable tonight. And if we lose, even better! You can be even more miserable.

We should change the club colours to grey and grey and black: The Maryhill Magyars Moaners.

You missed an important bit: you forgot to mention that these people 'aren't real fans'.

Bobby Gray was my first thought too, with John Hansen a bit further back.

Doesn't look like Jackie Campbell..... Tommy Ewing, or was he away by then?

I thought he looked like John Hansen , but equally thought, going by the strip, it was too early for Hansen. Thought the guy on the right was too fair for Ewing - George O'Neill?

That will be the Austin, who pulls out of games with injuries a coupe of days before such as last week when he said he would  not be fit to play on the saturday.  If the guy is going to be constantly injury prone or unfit then theres surely not a lot McCall can do

His performance against Clyde u-20s, where we won 9-1, but should have won 14-1, was nothing to shout. Even Hall and Robson looked  standouts in that game.

  7. Yes, I'll take Jones as well, thanks.

I think there was a general consensus that Sir Bunter needed to make a complete clear out; logically the bigger the clear out the bigger the impact of the turnover on what little 'stability' there is/has been. Hence why, Saturday's shambles notwithstanding, I think he needs to be cut a lot of slack.

  8. Niven, Hogan and Tinney; Closs Harvey and Cunningham, with Ernie Yard in the forward line somewhere, was my first taste.

We'd just lost Sandy Brown to Everton, which baffled me as a 7 year old - how could anybody NOT want to play for Thistle?!!

As divine punishment for his treachery Sandy,  in later years, was judged by Saint and Greavesie to have scored 'the best own goal of all time' - in a Liverpool Derby. Admittedly St John may have been biassed in his choice.

Think we still have Harkins , Mansell, Austin and Robsen that will probably leave in this window. This would leave 17 in the squad so plenty of potencial deals still to be done.

So they could be as many as five still to come in. Deals might not be able to be done with all of the 4 above but I think McCall will want them gone.

One of two players that can play multile postions would be good. That was the thinking behind going for Gary Miller who has been playing a holding role on midfiled for Falkirk. As we know he can play right-back and centre-back.

Huge changes in this window and looks like there will be very few 'caldwell' players left after January.

Cardle, Saunders and potentially Williamson too.
