  1. Definitely all good news, and I don't care if I'm tempting the gods (I'm agnostic anyway), but I think we'll hump the Bunnet XI off the park on Saturday, and I'm  not the slightest concerned that we'll be either relegated or in the (downward facing) play offs next May.

One question is, does Sir Bunter fling all the new faces in at once on Saturday or does he blend them in gradually - be interesting to see.

Pass marks to Sneddon and some of the young guys. Austin, Mansell, Jones and Slater were  all very poor. Harkins was abysmal.  If it hadn't been for a mistake at the start of the game by their keeper we never would have scored.

Sneddon had some tremendous saves. Austin ended up playing at left back.

The sooner these 5 go the better, waste of a wage.

Have to say though this has been a superb window so far, assuming we get graham, Himself,  rudden, Mackinnon and extending coles loan is fantastic business in itself as far as January goes. If we could now get either McCart or Forrest on pre contracts as well as maybe one or 2 of the rangers and Celtic centre and left backs on loan as short term plugs then I would say this has been a superb window. Brownlie and Docherty too if you count them. Super Ian McCall! Only complaint is I would have hoped to have got rid of a few more players but I can understand this isint always easy to do, plus there’s still time yet I suppose.

    I'm with you there.

Great to see the respects paid to Colin Weir, by fans, players and staff as his funeral cortege passed Firhill.:fan:

I couldn't go to the actual funeral, but there a decent crowd there at 10:30 yesterday morning.

First game back was in the Glasgow Cup v Celtic Colts on 17 Dec. not long after getting here from Australia. Working his way back to match fitness and becoming familiar with his teammates I'd have thought. Played as a sub on Saturday. Would at least like to see if he might have anything before he is written off and would expect to see some more of him over the next few games.

No, he was in from the start against Clyde and, apart from his pace off the ball which was good for a man returning from injury,  didn't really impress even at that level. Even Robson looked good on that occasion! Seem to remember his missing an absolute sitter early in the game.

But yes, in fairness to the player he probably hasn't a chance to prove or disprove himself.

Who are the 10 players out of contract do you know? Thinking off top of my own head Harkins, Miller, Slater, Mcginty, Saunders, Jones, Cardle, Robson, Austin and Cole? Is that the correct 10? If so assuming we sign Rudden and yet to be seen if Mackinnon will stay on for next year, I would keep Cole 100% if possible and cardle as a squad player, then perhaps Jones if he proves his worth from now till the end of the season as he has shown flashes that he could be a player . I would also keep Saunders as a back up centre back on recent form then possibly Austin if in the small chance he turns out to be a good player once fit. As for the 3 who have another year left anyway- Gordon I think is a good asset and brings goals from midfield and from the bench, Mansell get shot of at all costs and as for Williamson I know he’s not the best defender at times but his quality of delivery is something that’s hard to come by, I would like to see him stick around as I think with a competent defence (Brownlie) and a good sitting midfielder to cover his runs forward and he could thrive.  Fox, Penrice, Brownlie, O’ware, Banzo, Docherty, Rudden upfront and Zanatta if we can get the Alloa player from last year consistently is a good spine of a team to work with looking to next season with.

I'd be happy to see every one go except Cole. Add, Mansell, Robson, Gordon please.

I have been away for a week, so catching up and I'm reminded why I love this forum. There is a sort of mass manic depression about it. When I left, we had just had a couple of decent games and it was all about just a couple of tweaks to the squad and we could be pushing for the play-offs. After a bad game against United,  it is get rid of the lot and we might just avoid automatic relegation.

Got to love the wild swings !

If we are being fair he has been here a year and a half and nowhere contributed enough.  He’s not alone and in fact sadly that’s the case with so much of this squad- but there’s no reason to keep him if we can get better

Yes agree - wasn't particularly singling him out. Like the rest he can go any time.

Slater's time must be up, surely? McCall assessed at half time, correctly in my view, that we needed to bolster the midfield and he turned to Penrice, leaving Slater on the bench.

It was a reasonable decision, I think, although it just showed, yet again, that Penrice isn't a midfielder.

Pity we couldn't swop Slater for Docherty and get the new look team underway.

Sadly, it seems so. I thought there was a half-decent player in there once.

So after getting pumped 5-0 in league cup by them and 4-1 yesterday  by dundee United how are we gonna avoid getting hammered again.

Hopefully we can put on a gd show and maybe have a signing or 2 in

    We aren't.

Apart from anything else (i.e. us being almost as sh1te as we were under Caldo), they will be out to prove something after their recent humiliation by the other cheek at Parkheid where, frankly, the scoreline grossly flattered them.  Since then they've had a week in Dubai, we've struggled against part-timers and slobbered in the mire against the Arabs.

It seems that we lose games easily and win points with difficulty.

I have not gone back and checked every single result (so somebody may be able to point out the odd exception, but not to disprove the general rule), but I believe that the following stats apply to all our league games this season:

    1) In all our draws we have  had to come from behind after losing the first goal.

    2) In all our wins, we have either had to come from behind after losing the first goal, or, having scored first, we have been pegged back to level terms, and have had to go on to score a further goal (or goals).

These stats might show some surprising evidence of character and resilience in the team, but more realistically demonstrate that we are incapable of winning comfortably. We have never scored to take the lead and  then seen the game out.

On the other side, when we lose we often crumble very badly. Either we meekly surrender a lead, or after we concede a goal, the team caves in completely. There have been an alarmingly high number of such games this season.

Not wanting to enter into a manager comparison debate, but the trend identified above commenced under Caldwell (except that he had no wins!) and has continued under McCall, The collapses still happen and the draws are similar, but thankfully are now being balanced out by some hard earned wins.

So, in conclusion, some grounds for hope, but none for complacency.

There was a horrible Calwellesque flavour about yesterday: inability to convert when on top; total surrender when we went behind (in his wildest dreams Neilson probably didn't see them scoring four yesterday);  incomprehensible substitutions that only made matter worse.

That said, I still believe we'll finish between 5ht and 8th.

  12. F------g desperate. Same old same old; abject surrender after the first that reminded me of the Caldwell days, Shankland won’t score an easier goal in the season than that. Couldn't score in a brothel. Throwing high balls at a 6ft 4 keeper. Bunter usually spot-on with subs but Robson for Jones utterly baffling. Looked to be all about limiting the damage, but increased it. Very poor. Austin for Cardle, equally laughable.

Sooner we get the new faces in the better.

    Morton score didn't help.

Dread to think about next Saturday.
