Can't agree there, BR.  We've four centrebacks and I'm not even sure he's the best of a dodgy four. I'd support that by pointing out he's hardly a first choice.

That pairing could well be first choice now. Would certainly be mine.

Saunders would have been my MotM yesterday even without the goal. Has hopefully got overhis poor/inconsistent spell and back to previous good form. Caldwell era did him no favours.

  2. Banzo my MOTM today, safe with the ball, brave and very creative. Just edged It over Tommy Robson who despite a few mistakes first half made a huge contribution. Foxygen a bit more commanding than he has been - probably his best game since returning. Saunders HT substitution perhaps pivotal - he wasn't anywhere near his best.

Great feeling to have won convincingly in the end after being outplayed first half. Would be nice to think Super-Ian has turned it round but let's wait and see.

Jags support were fantastic and deserve to enjoy the journey home.

  3. If it's true that the squad and management team had to make their own way to Alloa, as reported in the Evening Times article (link in Who owns what and who's in charge thread), maybe that affected the players. Could be that changes at the club are worrying them and resulted in most having a poor game on Saturday?

I am most definetly one of Cadlwell's critics and I fairly enjoyed my pint last night. If Caldwell can get us out of the relegation fight then thats going to be welcomed by all Thistle fans no matter you're opinion of Caldwell.

I think for a lot of people, myself included, who haven't taken to Caldwell its because of what was said when he was appointed. You have to remember he was brought in to get us challenging for promotion not save us from relegation. We've only really started looking competent under Caldwell after 7 signings which is odd when he clearly presented a plan at interview that implied he could more out of the squad he inherited.

Yesterday's win was promising but we beat QOS at home under Archie so have we improved or got back to our early season form? Only time will tell. QOS are an interesting bench mark as they are currently in the playoff spots and they don't look anything special. Had Caldwell got Archie-level of results from October to December then yesterday's win would be taking us towards the playoff not off the bottom of the league.

So for me I'm still not convinced but I'll be more than happy to eat humble pie if he is successful as that means Thistle are successful.

Glad you enjoyed your pint, laukat and long may that continue.

  5. All you Caldwell detractors, doom and gloom merchants and negative pessimistic miseryguts posters on here must have been crying into your beer last night at the thought that he might just be going to make a success of it.

I'll not argue with the sentiment of this post. My point is that Caldwell is a c@ck of a manager and any manager worth his salt would see Chris' s value to the club as a whole and would have better managed the player and his expectations and kept him at the club.

He' not been at his best for a while now, no arguement, but he IS needed at our club for more than just his playing skills as many have provided on this thread. He was, imho, the ONLY player capable of coming on and changing a game we currently had.

This whole situation underlines gary caldwells limitations as a manager and the horrendously poor decision making at my club just now. Fooooooookin ragin

All the best chris. LEGEND dibble. Fookun LEGEND, open your eyes

I thought Gary Harkins changed the game when he came on on Saturday

  7. We had a think about this at the game too. Our thoughts were more to the effect of putting him in midfield and playing Doolan in behind Pogba.

Need to get him to shoot when the chance arises as it did a couple of times on Saturday. Don't know if that's a strongpoint for him or not - come on, Mustapha, show us you can against Killie.

  8. Actually looking forward to this, which probably means it will be a 1-0 borefest to the Saintees. Imagine we'll go with the same team, although I can potentially see Miller coming in for Dumbuya as I saw he's had a tough international trip posted in another thread plus if he's still not fully fit, may get a rest for this one. Would quite like to see Muirhead come in for Welsh, moving Bannigan back to centre midfield, but am happy to go with the same team as Dundee Utd as long as we don't play with 3 holding midfielders.

Sean was my MOTM against Utd, I'd hate to see him not start!

  9. I thought fake thistle had the best of the first half and made about five or six decent chances where we made none. Second half a different story. Fake came out defensive, looking set for a draw and hoping to score on the break. Decent tactics, given the goals we've conceded by pushing forward against defensive teams this season.

Credit to Archie, Scott and the team, we kept attacking and defended successfully when they broke. I thought bringing Taylor on for Doolan made a difference.

Conrad was excellent and my MOTM too, although he made two mistakes in close succession just after I'd picked him.

Steevo a close runner-up. What a shift he put in and to think we all thought he was lazy early in the season!

Stevie Lawless was great today - I think he's come on a lot. Last season he'd have looked too lightweight in a game like that but he ran rings around their defenders at times today. More of that please, Stevie.

After the goal we saw it out well. Taylor is superb at holding the ball up in their half and Archie went to five at the back, using valuable seconds with that substitution. What an improvement on last season!

  10. From what I heard, after visiting some consulate, Taylor had allegedly went out partying midweek in Edinburgh, drinking copious amounts of rum punch and pina coladas. He then evidently merrily made his way towards a taxi rank singing an Afro-Caribbean ditty in pidgin Maryhillese. Lyle was minding his own business when apparently some drunken yob, sitting on a pavement choking on a black olive and spitting out pieces of pepperoni, instinctively stuck out a leg and tripped him up. Taylor limped away leaving the bevvied moron muttering to no one in particular something like "Ha ha Kevin Clancy let's me do that"

Have you been smoking the Consulate again?
