I wonder if Jonny Blom was our tallest ever player?

My sixth was the Sam Morrow scrambled effort, which I think was vital to securing our second tier status. Dick Campbell had just been sacked and we were seeing out the season under the temporary care of Jimmy Bone and Terry Butcher.

8 for me.  I am old, but not that old.  From Fleck onwards.  I actually thought about debut goalscorers when Diack scored on Saturday.  The first name that came to mind was Mo Johnston as a sub against Dundee Utd. but that maybe wasn't as quick as the others.

Could someone who was at the game please advise how the hell did we lose 3 goals to QP?

And how did Tiff do when he came on?

First goal was a training ground free kick move.  Something we can only dream about.  Second looked like Fitzpatrick let his man run off him.  No pressure on the player with the ball and the keeper a little slow off his line.  Third was from a corner and the ball bounced around the six yard box before being scrambled in,  I make that 5 goals from corners and two from free kicks so far.  There seems to me to be a lack of preparation for anything,  We don't react.  Too slow all over the pitch.  I have no idea what our midfield shape is with all 3 of them all over the place.  That, to me, is coaching.  We had 9 non-playing staff on the bench yesterday.  I assume all taking a wage.  I guess the kit man was among them but what do the rest of them do?  Shambles, but nothing new.

As for QP being the third biggest team in Glasgow, what does that mean?  Were Gretna a bigger club than us?  They will probably overtake us in league places by spending more money than we can, but it won't last.

Joint worst defence in the league.

    A clear-out is definitely needed.

I'm  not convinced it is the defence.  I think Saunders and O'Ware have played well in the last two weeks.  Williamson as has been said can't defend and the ball comes in from his side too easily.  We get over run in midfield most weeks and  this adds to the pressure on the defence.  Cardle doesn't defend or check his runner leaving overlap possibilities and every second ball is picked up by an opponent.

  4. Was great to see that historic win. Even though Ibrox had been redeveloped it didn't look like there was any sort of segregation at the game. Was this the case?

I was in the Broomloan Road stand with Thistle and Rangers supporting mates. We got dug up by a wee ned H*n when Mo scored but one of my Rangers supporting mates put him in his place and he left.

  5. This one has enough for a resrve team!

GK John Wilson (7-3 vs St Johnstone when they had 7 shots on goal), Andrew Stewart (I don't think he ever made a save)

    RB Eddie Hernon, Davie Hayes

    LB Peter Shields, Scott McArthur

CB Alan Mackin, Bryan Purdie (the debut from hell)

    CB Will Snowdon, Sandy Hodge

    RM Jim Docherty, Steven Bonar

    LM, Alan Carson, Tommy O'Hara

    CM, Hugh Lyden, Eddie McGuiness

CM, Tom Mcallister, Billy Paxton (we paid money for him)

    CF Joe Sweeney, Steven Nicholas

    CF Willie Callaghan, Gordon Dalziel

Dishonorouble mentions to Graham Kyle, Brendan McIntyre, Paul Maher, Brian Scrimegour (he really did have his best game in goals), Paul Graham F*&k me, a subs bench.

    Depressing.

  6. EUREKA! 21 October 1978. A 2-0 win at home to Motherwell. Somner (2). It wasn't at time up. The penalty hit the keeper and he blew for HALF time as Dougie scored with the rebound.

Thanks A F. 2-0 rather than 3-0. I'm just glad it happened and i didn't make it up!

  7. As an aside to our situation which has been discussed in a few threads. i have my own thoughts but am hopeless at getting them accross.

Anyway, I was just watching Tottenham vs West Ham and Tottenham got a penalty with five seconds of injury time left. Harry Kane took it and the keeper saved it. Kane then put in the rebound. Should time not be up when he takes the kick?

The reason I ask about my memory in the thread title is did we not have a similar situation in the seventies against Motherwell? I seem to remember Doug Somner having a penalty saved and scoring the rebound only for the ref to disallow the goal and call half time. Am I imagining this? Does anyone know the rules regarding this?

  8. Kid's get in for free every week at Firhill. Charging them £12 a few times a season is fine. Think people are taking kids go free for granted.

It will cost me £42 to get me and my two in on Tuesday. Kids go free is fantastic and is perhaps taken for granted but £12 is ridiculous as it is the adult that's paying. Most of the adults paying for the kids got in free when they were young, my dad lifted me over the turnstyle and I don't think ever paid to get me into a game. Times have changed but come on!

  9. Get real, you get your kids free into 18 league games and you complain about paying for 1 cup game? Do you go to away games, if yes then you pay other clubs for your kids yet you grudge £14 to PTFC of which we only get half.

As I said, Thistle have spoiled us for the league games. We do go to away games but most teams charge around £20 parent and child. This is the Ramsden's Cup, there is a big difference.

  10. So what is a "reasonable price" for kids then?

It's hard to say. I'm looking at it from a purely selfish point of view as there are three of us going. I do feel that £7 even for a kid going themselves is too much even for a league game. Absolute maximum for a league game should be £5 and for a Ramsdens Cup game £2. This is only my opinion.

  11. A cup is a cup.

If we were on a losing run we might change the team. Is that called "playing reserve players"?

Highlights are free to view on the internet, doesn't stop people actually attending games.

Could the crux of the issue be(and correct me if im wrong) that familys have gotten so used to low admission for them and their families that they are outraged when they have to put their hand into the pocket's to pay into Firhill for cup games?

I suppose it could be that I have become used to cheap admission at Firhill. But I still feel that the pricing for this particular game is high. I've come to expect it from the likes of Dundee and for a brief time Livingston in league games, although last season they weren't so bad. It is still the Ramsdens cup and I think the price is unreasonable for kids. In typical hypocritical style I have wanted us to win it since it began!
