  1. I would still go to Thistle games because I enjoy watching football on a Saturday.

I'm sure there's a lot that are in the same boat, although there will be some who will not return to Firhill, at least for a while.

  2. Bit of a contradiction from you I think. Does 1 (granted successful) season with a part time team in the 3rd division make him proven?

It is a bit of a contradiction but I have a good feeling about Sheerin. He'll replace McInnes at St Johnstone when he leaves if nobody appoints him first.

I think even a season of management is a massive difference to stepping in like Jackie is.

  3. Pretty disappointed McCall's gone. He's generally done a good job and although he wasn't massively popular with the fans, he seemed to be very popular with the players.

I can't see us getting a better manager in and the wage we'll be offering any prospective manager will be a pittance.

Gus McPherson might work well on our small budget. As a left field choice, maybe Paul Sheerin?

Not massively excited by Jackie as a potential choice. Completely underwhelmed tbh. Employing young unproven managers is always a risk, and sometimes pay dividends, but it's maybe not a risk worth us taking given our situation.

  4. Yes, I see your point. You suggest that searching questions from a Times journalist would somehow damage the paper. That I don't understand.

I more mean the actual journalists relationship with the club as they have a day to day relationship with them.

Might mean them losing their exclusive transfer news if they piss people off.

It's not a massive issue though.

  5. I'm curious to know how much damage you think criticism of the Thistle board would do the Evening Times.

It's just the Thistle articles are very rarely negative. I don't get the feeling really probing questions are being asked of people involved with Thistle.

Don't think there's been any stories reflecting fans feelings on the manager or the board.

  6. The Evening News, which is Edinburgh's Evening Times equivalent.

Very good paper. Much stronger than the Evening Times in my opinion. Backed up by the amount of follow ups to evening news stories in the nationals the next day, compared to the ET.

There's clearly not the cross over appeal into news with Thistle as there is with say Dundee/Dundee United in The Courier, or Aberdeen in the Press and Journal.

Hopefully the board members leaving -- who tbh were a reason for us not getting positive press -- will help us improve our image.

Also, the Alan Rough interview was partly an example of how out of touch he was with how Thistle fans really feel, but more importantly a sign that ET's sports journalists are scared to criticise the board in case it messes up their relationship with the club.

  7. I remember Derek Lilley being in the office at Firhill about to sign when he got a phonecall from Livi offering to beat anything we offered.

Not 2 clubs we should aspire to in how to run a football club right enough!

To be fair, we missed out on Derek Lilley seven years ago.

I've forgiven the board for that one now.
