  1. I don't think Archie trusts him to put in a shift. He lets players run off him a lot, which we couldn't have afforded yesterday.

He hasn't really offered much since August last year, and his performance in the 3-1 loss at home to County was one of the most disgraceful I've ever seen.

He's now our 5th - arguably 6th - choice centre mid. He is rightly behind these guys, and I personally think we'll never see the best of him. Wouldn't be surprised if he's gone in January.

  2. I could cut and paste this post, I've said it so often. What striker in their right mind is gonna sign for us when we play one up front.

Out of the seven teams that finished above us last season I think at least five played with one up front - Celtic, Aberdeen, Dundee United, Caley and Hamilton. St Johnstone and Dundee did at times too I think.

It's not a crazy defensive formation. It can be progressive, and has been for us.

  3. I don't think Fraser works further forward, even though he's got a great shot on him.

I think he'd work best alongside Osman, with Stevenson in front, but Bannigan should be ahead of Fraser at this time. The balance with Osman, Fraser and Bannigan together never quite worked.

Big season for Fraser. He had an incredible start to last season, but didn't contribute much at all after the first few months. He also put the worst individual performance of the season in at Firhill in the 3-1 disaster against County.

He could find himself being our fifth choice central midfielder if Welsh recovers as well. At the same time he could potentially be a first pick if he's playing at his peak.

  4. There's a wee snippet in The Scottish Sun today that ex St Johnstone right back Gary Miller is training with us. I don't know much about him, but he obviously isn't as maverick a player as SOD.

I'd be quite happy with Lindsay being third choice centre half. He's huge, has done well on loan and did well in his only start against Ciftci, which is a baptism of fire in the Scottish Premiership terms.

I'd imagine Archie would like to sign a full back that could also play in the middle as cover.

  5. Craigen was offered 1 yr. Who makes up these stories about trimming squads etc?

Archie in Sunday's Scottish Sun suggests otherwise.

He said: "Craigen's been outstanding for us.

"He scored a pivotal goal for this club against Morton when we won the league.

"He's been fantastic but restraints to our budget meant we couldn't keep him on. I would've loved to keep him, but money's getting tighter and tighter and we've also got to let the young ones come through. Jamesis a bit of a casualty of that.

"But he's been an outstanding servant who gives so much to the team. He's also a lovely boy so making that decision was a very hard one.

"The game had an end-of-season look about it — we had a changed team but we created a lot of chances, and considering we'd three guys making their first starts, it was pleasing.

"It lets us know that even though we're going to lose a few bodies at the end of the season we've got some decent ones coming through."

  6. I genuinely don't have a problem with that.

There's no point in having a good youth system if you're not going to use it to your advantage.

I still would be surprised to see any of the boys from yesterday, Wilson included, being regular first team players next year. They're more likely to spend a year or 2 on loan to get experience.

Perhaps next season we'll see more of Scully, Lindsay & Nisbit who already have had time out on loan.

I thought Wilson looks like he stands a chance, but I'd have liked to have seen him out on loan somewhere. He's neat and tidy, but looked a bit raw.

I'd be happy with Lindsay being third choice centre half behind Seaborne and Frans. Did a great job against Ciftci on his debut, which is a bit of a baptism of fire.

I'd also like Scully to at least get a few games in pre season to see if he's up to it.

I'd like to see some of these guys get a chance. You see how good a player Bannigan is now. Some of these guys just need to be given their chance.

  7. I think he'd have just as a hard a time getting a game at Hibs. They have Allan, Craig, Fyvie, McGeouch, Robertson, and Stanton for starters.

Really hope he gets a good club though. Has served us incredibly well, has a great attitude and been a good ambassador for the club.

Genuinely quite sad that most of the first division side will be gone by next season. Sod, balatoni, fox and Craigen all likely to have played their last game in red and yellow tomorrow :(

  8. Fair play to the Jackie Husband stand fans for being less precious than us North Stand boys.

It makes financial sense, and there's football sense in having us behind one of the goals.

Hopefully we at least manage to lay a glove on Celtic this season. Our last two games against them have been dreadful.

  9. Nice picture of her with Craigen and Elliott in The Star.

Think she'll get a bit of a reception from Thistle fans if she turns up at the game tomorrow.

  10. Higgy's clearly not hit the heights of the end of last season, but we maybe need some perspective.

He's set up the decisive first goal in both the St Mirren and Motherwell games. Not as if he isn't contributing at all.

  11. I wouldn't be surprised if Archie goes down south for most of his summer signings, but it might be easier to attract Scottish players now we're a bit more established.

I think of the Scottish list Vigurs would be an interesting signing. He's capable of great things, although I don't how well he'd fit in.

Gavin Reilly of QOTS strikes me as a decent option on the wings if we can't keep hold of Higgy and/or Lawless. I can't see Ainsworth signing for us but he could potentially be brilliant.

Brian Graham would do well, but pretty sure he's set for St Johnstone. I'd rather we had Taylor and Doolan as our two main strikers though.

  12. Thought he played well second half. First half was more miss than hit.

I was fuming that he kept getting to take set pieces with Bannigan on the pitch, and then he sends in a beauty for Taylor's goal.

Even when he's having a bad day he's always capable of something.

  13. Who are seen as the most likely to break through(for those who go regularly)?

Liam Lindsay seems to have transformed Airdrie's season since he went there. Kept a clean sheet in the majority of games, and on a great run of wings. East Stirling fans raving about Kevin Nisbet as well.

    The future's bright....

  14. The team today was full of guys who care about the club. Dunno if the same can be said for some of the guys who started last week.

Delighted with the victory because a four point gap to the bottom three would have been scary.
