garryc, No doubt I'll do the same as you! I've also been down the monthly-subscription-without-almost-any-home-games rabbit hole, but to be fair, it worked to my advantage at the end of last season, with all the play-off matches.

This season the club already has my season ticket (which I won't use, being about just as far away from Firhill as you can get on this planet), my Centenary Fund (never will I win it ) subscription, and now the live streaming "scam," for the full season! Seriously, I'm sure that they'll work to sort out the problems (last season it was pretty good), and that the sick presenter will either medicate appropriately or desist from duty to spare us from sharing his suffering (the game usually takes care of that).

A general question (well, three): I've noticed that each time you want to view a live stream you need to answer whether you're a home or an away fan. (There is no "neutral" option.) But why is that home or away information important? Does the away side get a proportion of the live stream takings for the match? Or is it just because it's one of those useless pieces of information that's easy to get online and that nobody will ever make use of?

That’s one of my pet peeves.  Not the question itself, but the fact that the platform simply can’t remember that I’m a home supporter - like I was the time before that.  And the time before that.

I would presume it’s just a nice metric to have for sales/marketing purposes.  I would want to look at home/away signup trends to figure out how to get more people on board.  Then put some effort into place to do that and see how the numbers move.

Whether that’s actually happened behind the scenes, I couldn’t tell you.

Has there been any mention anywhere of a season pass streaming service for the over land and over sea Jag’s diaspora?

Yes, it’s available now for £100 although I don’t recall mention of it.

There should be a banner for it when you go to https://tv.ptfc.co.uk

It’s a weird navigation process, so if you have any questions feel free to DM me.

The stream itself has been a bit flaky the first two games, bogged down by tech issues.

I think they are having site mapping difficulties.  The subscription options are nowhere to be found after logging in.  But prior to that, they are visible.

After logging in, I’ve always had to refresh the shop page in order to have it recognise that I have a subscription.

And the refresh didn’t work today.  Maybe the cup games aren’t part of the streaming package?  Was able to purchase the game a la carte and get to the video.

Update - On Wednesday I checked the tv.ptfc.co.uk website and noticed that the streaming for 23/24 was available for purchase at £100 (a monthly subscription for £15 was also available). I purchased the 23/24 package and although the order was confirmed as completed, the site did not acknowledge I have an active subscription. I thought it was just a delay so checked again the next day, but still does not acknowlege. No only that but the subsciption options for both 23/24 or the monthly had disappeared! I have emailed Thistle and of course have still not recieved a reply!

  5. Really enjoyed watching Lyon today.  I thought Wasiri was…..steady?  I’d have to see the video again, but I swear I watched a Falkirk player try to take him 1 on 1, and he kept his feet REALLY close together.  Seemed an odd choice.

Also I was pleased that the fans supported Banzo’s trip to the penalty spot and that he delivered.

Not an expert on such things, but it may be that the Viaplay arrangement for the League Cup does not allow this. Hopefully it will be OK for you for the league games.

PS have only visited Chicago once when my flight home from New York was diverted due to Hurricane Sandy. Not even able to get out of the airport.

Yeah, I was thinking specifically about the league.  Just a few weeks out and no option to purchase a streaming package.

Sorry to hear about your Chicago experience.  We once spent the night in New Orleans under military lockdown for a hurricane - kinda ruins the trip!  If you make it back this way I’ll buy you a pint.  👍

  7. Have been very pleased to see positive reports on Stanway and McKenzie.  Maybe I just don’t understand the “jump” these kids need to make, but it’s weird to think that two months ago Stanway was regarded as a loan player and McKenzie was just a lightly used sub - and suddenly both are earning pass marks or higher.

Add that to guys like Nisbet and you wonder if we shot ourselves in the foot all those years because we couldn’t accurately assess “readiness”….

Looking forward to Dools getting the most out of these kids.

He has a positive approach, within financial constraints, and believes in youth players. That’s admirable.

I think it could be a combination of all those things.  Plus the fact we are seeking sponsorship/funding for the Academy so potential investors are going to want to see the Academy being used for something.

There’s an update from the chairman on Facebook. Seems like we’re going for promotion and the budget was increased last week to support that. Also, plenty wanting to invest in and sponsor the club.

He referenced “investment from America”.  I mean, I’m flattered….but I’ve only done the monthly to TJF and the new kit purchase….  😜

  10. Everything I’ve seen so far speaks to stability being the battle plan.  I’d expect the goal for this season to be sneaking into the playoffs with reliance on Dools being able to unearth some young talent somewhere.

I imagine some difficult questions could be had mid season about moving Fitzy and Milne to get some kind of fee before they leave on a free.

One question - do we attempt to break tradition and lock up Dools on a multi-year?  If he keeps us top 4 this season, other clubs will certainly come calling.

  11. If we are talking cutting costs, I would ask what value is there in having an academy?

You either have to sustain it via transfer fees (of which I imagine we are getting very little, very infrequently for higher-potential players like Cameron Cooper) or graduates making their way to significant first team roles (which I’m not seeing).

I would be very excited to see more minutes for Mackenzie, Stanway, Lyon, etc. just to find out what kind of players we have there.  If we don’t, we will never become sellers and lose out on that revenue too.

At the end of every season big teams release loads of young players.  This is when we hoover them up. Remember the promotion team 10 years ago was built on young players released from bigger clubs.  O'Donell (Celtic), Balatoni (Hearts), Welsh (Hibs), Lawless (Motherwell) etc

This is where Doolan intrigues me.  With his experience in lower league football, plus his (albeit brief) time with the youth academy, one would imagine he has an eye for young talent and could find some values.

Not to say McCall didn’t, mind.
