  1. I certainly got carried away with the quality of footbal we played in those first few games and maybe my expectations were too high.I don't know if the defeats are down to our style being sussed out or just a deterioration in our general play or a combination of both.Perhaps we should keep Wigan in mind -one of the highest posession / pass ratios in the Premiership last season but still got relegated.First rule of football -don't get beat.

  2. OK, here's the scenario. You've won the big one on the euromillions and you've always promised yourself that if and when you win it you would give Thistle £1,000,000 with the proviso they spend it on....... what?

How should the money be spent ? Ground/pitch improvements ? New players? Youth development ? Bigger win bonuses?

    How would you spend it?

For the sake of your health and safety it is assumed you have permission to donate the money by your better half

  3. Saw DU's crowd on Sunday was 5,800 which is ok I suppose but not fantastic. So how can they afford the bigger wages and squad plus hire the training faciities at Stirling ? And what happened to the claim against them by some club for compensation which was going to arbritation ?

  4. Raised as a Catholic, all my schoolmates were Sellic fans and all my footballing mates were h*ns and I decided when I was about 9,just to be different,I would support my local team as I lived in Cowcaddens.

So glad I made that decision which was a wee step on my way to Atheism. After all if there was a God,Thistle would win the European Cup every year instead of making us wait until 2016.

  5. Interesting point from Dave Provan during the AC Milan v Celtic game. The Milan fans were making their feelings known about their teams poor performance and he said that would be music to Celtics ears and would increase their confidence.

So perhaps our " Boo Boys" giving Baird and others a hard time could bear that in mind.As I've said before I've never given any our players" stick" but the opposition? Well that's a diiferent matter entirely and that's how you get rid of your frustrations

  6. So how did we actually play today?Did we stay with the passing game and if so what was missing? Given the size ,both physically and numerically,of our squad what options do we have?

If it could guarantee our safety would we be prepared to abandon our style and go for something more, ahem, robust ?

  7. Jeezo, some people are hard to please. We're talking about Scotland, remember ? A team who have underacheived for more years than I care to remember.Strachan has applied the same philosophy as the Jags and is trying to fill the team with players comfortable on the ball who can pass and if you had tuned into the first half without knowing who was playing you would have thought Scotland was the home team. When was the last time you saw a Scotland team dominate an away game ? And I include the "minnows" such as the Faroe Islands.

Anya is a terrific find and yes his final ball needs to improve but I think had Steven Fletcher or Rhodes been playing they would have made more of the balls that did get into the box.

As for suggesting that Darren Fletcher is not a great player I would agree that his performances for Scotland might appear underwhelming but that's because he is invariably trying to make up for the deficiencys of those around him.You do not play for MU unless you are better than good.Daglish was also criticised for his Scotland games mainly because a lot of his team mates couldn't read the game as well as he did

  8. First of all remember that everyone is on your side. They will laugh at any joke as long as it's in good taste.Do not slag off your inlaws unless you know them really well and know they won't take offence.

No one expects you to deliver a masterpiece.Just say exactly how you feel about your wife to be and tell her you love her and your glad that she chose you.Remember it's HER day and one she will remember for the rest of her life.

    Do and don'ts

Don't get drunk.I glass to wet your throat is enough

    Don't mumble.Speak clearly and don't rush

Have a glass of water hand or some mouth gel to stop your lips sticking to your teeth. That happened to me and I stood there with a rictus grin.People thought I had died standing up

Write out your speech on cards ,clearly numbered showing the sequence and used coloured marker to indicate pauses. The cards also give your hands something to do.

Rehearse, rehearse then rehearse again. The cards should just be prompts because you want to look at your audience as much as possible, and look all round the room not just a fixed point.

I made my speech 47 years ago and have no idea what I said. The day went in a blur and I was so nervous.I wish I had enjoyed it more. You make sure you enjoy the day.

Best of luck and let us know how the day went

  9. Never played football at a high level, best I could manage was a couple of trials for Campsie Black Watch but would be interested to hear from anyone who has played at a good level if getting booed or shouted at improved their performance. With very few exceptions players try their best and I would think they respond better to encouragement.

In 60 years of supporting Thistle I have never booed or shouted abuse at a Thistle player.Oh aye,I've groaned at the misplaced pass/mistimed tackle etc. This present team look to have a fantastic positive attitude and won't lie down.Is it too much to expect the fans to adopt the same attitude and keep the faith if we go a goal down?

  10. And the winner of this weeks "Big Girls Blouse" award is Jim Goodwin.I've no time for Kris Boyd but his "punch?" was hardly a haymaker yet Goodwin went down like a sack of potatoes.Ref should have told him if he was that delicate then maybe he should take up blow football.

    Any other contenders?

  11. The biggest "bottler" I can remember was Paul Ince who refused to look at Terry Venebles when he came on to the pitch looking for penalty takers during the Euro semi final against Germany.Alex Ferguson also labelled him as a bottler and big time charlie when he sold him.

As far as Muirheads penalty "down the middle" I think the worry is the keeper doesn't have to move.At least if it's either side the keeper has to work to make a save but hey, what do I know. The big man knows his own game best

  12. First let me say I've no time for managers who scream and shout from the touchline just to show us their "passion".I much prefer the calm thoughtful approach adopted by Archie but based on the evidence from 2 televised games he doesn't seem to show ANY emotion.

I'd hate to think he's got a touch of the Mowberys and doesn't actually enjoy his job.

    Any thoughts?

  13. Having watched Thistle for the last 60 years I can honestly say this is the best "passing" team they have ever had. What is really impressive is the speed and variety of passing and the instant control they seem to have developed particularly in tight situations.Very Barca like. Now when Messi comes ......
