If it's 6 October 1979 then is most likely McCluskey. Lennox was a sub. The other home match (9 Feb) had Lennox on from the start.

We've just lost a goal in the League Cup Final. Who are the Jags players?
Note the short-sleeved V-neck version of the classic strip!
25 October 1958. 1-5.
Ledgerwood Hogan Donlevy Mathers Davidson Wright McKenzie Thomson Smith McParland Ewing.
l-r Ledgerwood Davidson Mathers and Hogan (?). Certainly No 2 on his back but it doesn't look like him although it was his first full season and he was just a youngster.
-
And yet I know Celtic supporters who put their League Cup defeat in 1971 down to the fact that Connelly (and not McNeil) was playing - although he was centre-half that day.
-
Twiggy Cunningham, Jimmy Bone, and ..... ?
This is THE BEST Thistle strip ever!
Usual process of elimination. That's Bobby Murdoch and George Connolly so can only be v Celtic at Celtic Park 17 Aug 1968. Number 3 is Russell Brown (played 8 times). Don't remember him. Cunningham came on as a sub. Celtic 4 (Wallace 4) - Thistle)
-
Deffo Joe Hogan and Donnie Mac. Impossible to tell who the guy is tackling the player. Those were the days. Packed grounds and the half time score board up the city end...lol
Hogan and McKinnon only played once together v Hearts at Firhill so must be a League Cup tie on 17 Aug 1963. Lots of thick grass suggests the start of the season. Dick Staite and Martin Ferguson played either side of McKinnon so the player could be one of them. (Drew 2-2, scorers Brown and Hainey.)
-
Hainey, Cunningham and Niven only played together at home against Hearts in 5 games ie,
10.3.62
22.9.62
31.8.63
21.9.63
4.1.64
Given the state of the goalmouth and the general look of how the crowd are dressed I think we can narrow it down to either January or March. Since I think the player ducking out of Niven's way is John Harvey (and he didn't play in the March 62 game) my money's on the 4 January 1964 match (2-1, Duffy and McParland).
If so, that would make it likely that it is Ian Cowan away out on the right and Davie Closs in the middle distance.

Brilliant, TJR!
Tried it with this pic of the tarts vs. the Jags, 1968. Question: Who's the Thistle player standing with hands on hips in the background?
Johnny Flanagan

I think that was absolutely the case.
Our truly dismal record against them, and against the team that preceded sevco, continues. It must be about the worst of any other of the top 12 or so teams in Scotland. Truly abysmal.
If you take the League Cup Final in 1971 as the cut-off point, since then (all competitions and friendlies) .......
Played 73
Won 9
Drawn 10
Lost 54
Goals for 54
Goals against 162.
In the same time frame the record against Rangers is........
Played 71
Won 10
Drawn 15
Lost 46
Goals for 63
Goals against 138.

The six second rule applies when the keeper is ready and the team is ready for him to release it. Fox could theoretically wait ten seconds (or more) for the team to get up the pitch into formation and a further six seconds after that.
Twinny, I can't find your interpretation in the the FIFA laws of the game website. It makes no mention of a team being ready to receive the ball from the keeper - only that he has 6 seconds to release it from his hands. In any case, whose judgement would it be that a team was "ready"?
Incidentally, I wasn't making a point about how long Fox takes to release the ball under normal circumstances - only the specific point about the time taken to release from his hands yesterday.

A dire first half. Marginally less dire in the second but a welcome 3 points. Anyone else think it might be useful for BBC ALBA to buy at least one effects microphone? I know they had a game last season where they had to delay transmission in order to edit out foul language but it really makes for poor viewing. Completely devoid of any atmosphere. Made the game seem 10 times worse and didn't do the JAGS fans justice. It must have been worse for any neutral watching.
I can't remember when I last saw a goalkeeper punished under the 6 seconds rule but I noticed Fox holding on to the ball for 13/14 seconds - twice! Says a lot about officials I suppose. Perhaps there an unwritten law that says the law should never be applied! Just think holding on to the ball for more than double the permitted length of time is asking for trouble sooner or later.

The "Davie McParland stand"? Anyone agree it's time the stand behind the goal got a name?

Is this the best start to a season in living memory? At home anyway. I remember a 3-1 against St Mirren in the old 1st (my memory is rubbish mind you.
There were 5-1 and 7-0 wins over Berwick Rangers (2009 and 1995) but this is the best start to the league for 32 years:- Aug 1982 East Stirlingshire 4-0.

according to sunderland afc offical site 'U21s heading north of the border...'
Ah, well spotted robphil.

It's so low key, I can't find any reference to the game on the club's official website. The "Sunderland Chronicle" and " Sunderland Echo" websites make no mention of it either. Do you think they'll turn up?!

Thanks JR!

Can anyone give me the Thistle teams for these two games from season 2002/03?
DUNDEE UNITED (H) 17 MAY 2003 (0-1)
Team and subs (only those used).
HIBS (A) 24 MAY 2003 (3-2)
Team, subs (only those used) and scorers. Believe they were Rowson, Burns and Britton.
Many Thanks.

If you are simply renewing you don't need to collect or have a new one delivered - your card for last season is updated and will be valid for next season. At least that was the message I got when I renewed.
Agreed. My confirmation said so as well BUT...
I've changed my seat. Does the fact that my existing card now has the wrong seat number make any difference electronically? I don't know whether to expect a new ticket or not. 3 phone calls and 45 minutes later I finally got the system to co-operate - with the help of the office staff.
Also, I become a concession before the season starts. The most bizarre part of this sorry experience was that the system would have charged me the full whack (my birthday is after the date of renewal) had the office staff not found a way round this. No criticism of PT implied. It's the ticket company that need to get a grip. Why are these things not thoroughly tested before they go live?

Shameless jump on the band wagon. Looking to fill gaps in my collection.
Can anyone tell me if there were programmes issued for these games? Programme numbers before and after the the Nov 85 Celtic and Meadowbank games suggest there were but unsure of the others - especially as some were cup replays at a few days' notice.
Thanks.
Shrewsbury Town 01-Aug-84
Manchester City 04-Aug-84
Clyde 08-May-85
Rangers 13-May-85
Celtic 19-Nov-85
Airdrie 03-Feb-86
Dumbarton 19-Mar-86
Celtic 04-Aug-86
Morton 10-Feb-87
Celtic 10-Mar-87
Clyde 06-Apr-88
Meadowbank 06-Nov-90

Sad news.
Can still remember how gutted I was when I heard he had been transferred. Had no idea at that tender age that Thistle were a selling club!
In 158 appearances for Thistle, he scored at least 4 own goals ...
24 Aug 1960 v Rangers
7 Jan 1961 v Motherwell
16 Sep 1962 v Third Lanark
4 Mar 1963 v Arbroath (a flashing header!)

In August 87 at a friendly at Stenhousemuir I found myself leaning on the boundry fence blethering to none other than Jackie Husband. He told me that he had been fed up with the approach DJ took as manager and had tried to give him some advice. He said he never made the transition from player to manager and acted as "one of the lads". He told me that they had met up later and that DJ admitted that he should have taken Jackie's advice.
-
No. They had 1 home win in 2011-12 (beat Aberdeen 3-0 in April).
-
Since the founding of the Scottish League (1890-91) only 3 teams have completed a season in the top flight with no home wins:-
Vale of Leven
1891-92
Finished bottom and were not re-elected.
Morton
1901-02
Finished bottom but were saved by increase from 10 to 12 clubs the following season.
Raith Rovers
1962-63
Finished bottom and relegated.
Hoping we don't make this trio a quartet. Anyone fancy the second leg of the play-off at home still looking for a first win?

I can't say if this is absolutely true but I heard a story that Danny fell out of favour at Firhill because of an incident during a full scale practice match one night. Bertie Auld came on and started taking the pee-pee. The younger players stood back and let him get on with it but Danny, fed up with the show-boating, cleaned Auld out in a tackle and he never played for the 1st team again.
