  1. Cant understand some of the criticism of Craigen. As Ive stated before I reckon he is the most improved player since last season. Also find it incredible that some folk are suggesting Elliot is the answer up front. To be honest I dont think he should be anywhere near the team.

  2. When was the last time we had so many positive midfield options. Its brilliant. Archie has involved higgenbotham more than the rest so I imagine he will stick with him as a straight replacement for Welsh However others do make good cases for a different choice with the exception of Elliot who shouldnt be anywhere near the team imo and why even consider dropping Craigen whos had a fabulous start.

  3. Craigen had an excellent game. Never stopped chasing all night and unlucky not to score twice.I reckon he's the most improved player at Firhill at the moment. Man of the match def Muirhead though.Immense and great to see him score again from the spot.Regardless of 15 pts start this team will not go down.

  4. Brilliant result.Good to see another manager moaning about their own teams performance rather than acknowledging thistle's efforts. How many of us told people last season that this was the best thistle team in years but got the usual condescending responses. Hopefully we will have stacks of points on board and heading for Europe before managers and pundits alike sit up and take notice. What a time to be a jag right enough.

  5. Would you swap any of the current first 11 with DU to get him back? Personally I wouldn't.

No I agree I wouldnt swap(with the exception of Elliot who just doesnt cut it for me) but I would like him back with his former team mates as the set up under which we played obviously really suited his style of play and brought out the best in him but as I said already I think we will still do well without him.
  6. I hoped he wouldn't get found out so quickly as you know an ex junior player are inconsistent. You can get away with being p*sh one minute and great the next in division one but the spl think they think deserve quality and consistency every game. For one, I miss erskine hugely. Iv not seen someone so brilliant and so shit since Chico. Plus he's a top man to boot. I'm sure he will be back and ill welcome him massively.

Cant agree with the comparison with Chic.He was often brilliant, sometimes hot headed, occasionely haviing just an average game but NEVER shit. I would love Chris to be back at Firhill but if im really honest, last season was the only one he was outstanding. I wouldn't have had a problem with him leaving prior to this season. I thought Paton ws a far more consistent player over the years but dont think either will be needed to keep us up this year. The squad is looking really competitive for places with no position guaranteed.

  7. ………………………Fox

    O'Donnell… Muirhead… Balatoni… Sinclair

    …............Murray………..Kerr………..

    …..............……Bannigan…...

    ……Lawless…….................Forbes......

    ........................Doolan............................

I want Murray in there to noise up Paton. He's a hot head and we can put him off his stride. (Always appreciate and respect his efforts at Thistle - this is not personal). Reports are Welsh is not fully fit so that is why he is not there. Forbes on the left is a bit cautious but we have not replaced Erskine with a like for like so Forbes is in. Elliot to come on as a sub - I have hopes for him. Fraser sounds a player but not see him yet. I'm reasonably confident.

Really don't get why you have hopes for Elliot.Out of all the players at our disposal I feel he is the one weak link.Gives 100% in effort everytime but ultimately more often than not the attack breaks down once it reaches him.Runs about mad to no effect. I will be astounded if he makes any sort of impact this season as I dont even rate him as a good div 1 player.
  8. Would like to think the decisions on whether to sign these trialists are based on more than the 20 or 50 mins run that they get. You see a couple of wee touches here and there from each of them but no one has stood out as being a player to enhance what we have already(apart from Elliot who imo is just not up to it and never will be). Im hoping they are looking good behind doors. Game poor today but on the plus side I thought Muirhead was looking sharper than against Dumbarton, the lad Wilson looked lively, and Forbes is looking hungrier to get involved. But who is going to replace Erskine????

  9. Agree with most of what has been said. Lawless definitely best player on the park. We were far less threatening when he came off. Forbes, Kerr and SOD all had good games with Craigen and Welsh good in spells. Thought Muirhead had a pretty poor game by his standards and Sinclair also struggled to get going. You can clearly tell that players are understandably holding back in some tackles so perhaps wrong to judge too harshly. First time seeing Baird. Had some nice wee flicks here and there with an excellent work rate but some of his shots were woeful. Hopefully he will pick up.

  10. Fantastic news. A player who is clearly only going to improve and he was immense last year. I dont ever remember feeling so confident about us surviving in the spl. On other occasions you felt real apprehension but this time round the squad is relatively intact and full of good young players who are hungry for success and work hard for each other. A couple of half decent signings and we will be sorted. For the record I am also genuinely no bothered about Harkins.I trust Archie to unearth someone who will do us a far better job.

  11. I believe it was Hibs at Firhill sometime in the latter half of the 60's, but I know nothing about the game. I was taken to Ibrox maybe in 68 or 69 for Glasgow cup match which finished 2-2. I told my dad that I preferred the team in Red & Yellow and soon after he started taking me to Firhill. We got relegated & I remember a couple of games against Dundee United & St Johnstone. The St J match we were losing 3-1 & came back to win 4-3. We used to stand on the the north terrace & I remember loads of kids jumping the wall & celebrating behind the goal when we equalised then scored the winner. Like Willjag I wasn't allowed to go to the LC Final (I was 10) as my dad ran an amateur team & I had to go with him. If only I'd known!!!!!

I remember vaguely the st Johnstone match. Did johnny Flanagan not miss a penalty plus the retake as well? This was round about the time of my first game Feb 69 a midweek 2-1 win over raith rovers.I remember being gobsmacked when the floodlights came on full power just before kick off.it was magical.
  12. Spoke to one of the players at jumpin jaks on one of our celebration nights. Would be unfair to name the guy unless he spoke publicly (not Paton or erskine incidentally) but he said he didn't enjoy the criticism of McNamara as thistle had been offered £80k over TWO payments and thought they were playing silly beggars by not accepting it. I didn't agree with him regarding McNamara nor the unscrupulous antics of the despicable club jmac was joining. As someone else rightly pointed out let DU fans try offering to buy a season ticket over 2 payments or a one off payment worth two thirds of the value and see how they get on.However when most of us mere mortals see something as plain and simple the law sometimes has a warped wiew of what is deemed reasonable behaviour. I hope we haven't been naive.

  13. Most of the players are on holiday with family or friends so there won't be too much news in the next couple of weeks, imo.

I imagine their agents would be doing all the negotiating on their behalf regardless if they are on hol or not.A phone call would confirm a yes or no for signing.

  14.

In that case, I'll say it. take your PC crap and shove it.

Long live Jags fans sticking it to the sectarian mong. it's no wonder I hate the close season having to put up with crap like this.

:censor: your pope and :censor: your queen :)

Like I said the usual predictable boring response. You seem a bit too hostile here, almost coming across as

though you enjoy the sectarian tension just a wee bit too much.Careful, you might end up breaking some seats.

  15. When I started this thread I was expecting pelters but I have been pleasantly suprised at the number of people who are capable of self reflection and willing to acknowledge when some minor changes are required. Also delighted to see others stick their necks out and post their own reservations of some other songs despite knowing the usual predictable and boring 'pc brigade/get a life' tags would be flung their way. For the record the only other song I find totally objectionable is the Mary fae maryhill dross. There are loads of wee lassies, teenage lassies and guys with their daughters at firhill and away from home and to subject them to this sexist garbage is dispicable. Don't tell me to get a sense of humour either. I might have found such witty gems like 'I'd love to ride her' and 'tits falling out of a jumper' hilarious when I was 12 but sorry not now. I don't think for one minute ditching this rubbish whilst continuing with the rest of our songs plus more imaginative new ones will mean firhill is not buzzing next year.

  16. SFA came out in the press in 2006 and said there nothing wrong with it. They understood the message being made in the song.

And we all know how wise the SFA are ? How ludicrous would it be for the SFA in today's climate to attempt to defend the words 'Fk your pope/queen'. Even they wouldn't be so stupid (Well maybe???) It's not the message that's the problem it is the manner in which it is conveyed.

  17. People who are offended at the song have every right to be offended at it. Just as I have every right to find their offence ridiculous.

Just because you are offended, doesn't mean you're right...........

So why are you singing it in the first place? Presumably it's because YOU have taken offence to the bile that has came out from the OF. So by your logic they have got every right to sing whatever they want and the rest of us are just being ridiculous for taking umbrage. This argument of having the right to say whatever you want and if others are offended then its their problem does not hold. If I call someone a 'paki' or a 'chinky' and they take offence it is not them being ridiculous it is them quite rightly being offended and while others around might not feel their offence personally they can still understand and agree with their indignation.

  18. If you don't mind the F word. And are in agreement that criticism of the pope and/or the queen, especially when one feels the need to associate their respective authorities with a game of football, is justifiable and/or sacrosanct...... What is it you take offence to in relation to the song?

Is it that you think that those who disagree with those standards and freedoms should dictate what can and cannot be sung?

Depends on your definition of freedoms.I do think I have the right to protest about things I believe to be wrong but I also have to be aware of the responsibility of the manner of that protest and the consequences of my actions. I personally don't think I have the right to stand up in public and shout whatever the hell I want to whoever I want. Try standing in George Square by yourself singing Fk your Pope and Fk your Queen over and over ( without the safety of being hidden in a crowd of 2000 Jags fans) and see if people respond warmly to your ironic argument of anti bigotry.

  19. There's nowt official about it. Which is a dam good thing.

Context mate. Football starts with an F for F's sake!!! Ask the great Lambini.

It's celtic and rangers who are being refered to as the boys in blue and green. Therefore it's firmly asserted in everyday loose glaswegian parlance that, we have no time for their pope or queen.

Perhaps if there was sunni/shia divide in the city's footballing "giants" we'd have to think of a colour that rhymes with Allah or the Prophet Mohammed, peace be upon him, and hope that one of them conveniently had it in their home strip......

The real issue here is fascism, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism. We, ain't all the same.

Some of us say F**k alot.

At no point have I questioned the use of the word F**k. It can be used to great effect in many scenarios both passionately and with humour. I also agree that criticism should not be suppressed and that we aren't all the same (in fact many Thistle supporters aren't the same. Some are practising Catholics, some are Royalists, some are both and some are neither) but surely we are able to counteract bigotry and put over our condemnation in a way which is both clever and non offensive.
