  1. Wft was that. Can't believe the football we played that half. All kick and rush. Fullbacks were awful, as was Lawless. Only Bannigan is playing to form. Need a big improvement.

They're far to scrappy and have to really tighten up if they want to gain anything from this game. The pitch looks slippy, but it's the same for both teams. QOS are looking more dangerous on the break. Craigen was lucky to get a yellow. Any harder with the elbow and it would have been a possible red

  4. Thanks for those clarifications, EAJ. Even more reason to be frustrated by too many referees' failure to do what they are supposed to do. And yet there are supposed to be assessors at each match, but still there is no improvement in performance. Grr.

I gave two penaties today against the same team both both types of incidents mentioned above. I would expect every referee to do the same.

  5. The focus nowadays seems to be on youth and fitness.

I had my best refereeing days during my mid 40s after 10 - 15 years refereeing, but by that time you're considered too old to be promoted to the 'elite' leagues, despite having the fitness levels required.

Personally I think a ref should have a minimum of 3 years in the league just below the 'elite', then get promoted, irrelevant of age (within reason), proveded they're fit enough. There will still be plenty of years left for that ref to progress. However, I don't know the experiance requirement in Scotland.

Also, several years ago FIFA lowered the FIFA ref retirement age from 50 to 45 so associatons are looking to get refs on to the FIFA panel as young as possible.

I totally agree with Jaggernaut about shirt tugging, holding etc. The thing that really riles me, and it's seen in all major leagues, are players holding their opponetnts away arms length. This never seems to be punished, so every player thinks they can do it, despite it clearly stating the following in the instuctions to referees in the laws book.

Holding an opponent includes the act of preventing him from moving past or around using the hands, the arms or the body.

Referees are reminded to make an early interventionand to deal firmly with holding offences especially inside the penalty area at corner kicks and free kicks.

    to deal with these situations

the referee must warn any player holding an opponemt before the ball is in play.

caution the player if the holding continues before the ball is in play

award a direct free kick or penalty kick and caution the player if it happens once the ball is in play/

If a defender starts holding an attacker outside the penalty area and continues holding him inside the penalty area, the referee must award a penalty kick

  6. I'm heading home from West Africa this evening after a lenthy 10 weeks at sea. Fly into Glasgow at 12;30 Saturday Afternoon having not seen the wife in all this time. She is picking me up from the airport on arrival.

However I intend to tell her to head straight to the Aitken Suite for tommorows game. and what will be my first beer in 10 weeks. Answers on here please as to what her reply will be when I break the news to her. :thumbsup2: :thumbsup2: :drink2:

If she loves you then she'll happily take you there, let you have a few drinks and tell you that you deserve them. I would ask her rather than tell her to go to Firhill though :sign:

  7. To be fair, in response to Exiled AusJag originally question I think maybe Beaverbrooks is the answer as to what was there in the early 70's, there's perhaps a clue in the part "my wife digging out her engagement and our wedding ring receipts, we managed to identify and confirm the shops on all except the south west corner."

As you can see looking north, http://www.flickr.co...in/photostream/, boots corner is on the north east corner, Burtons the tailor is north west (you can just see the BUR), I thought samuels the jeweler was south east (I'll need to double check the address on the receipts), but it may be another jeweler, and I can't find anyone who can remember what was on the south west corner.
