That's a good question, KA. Although the club is very chary of releasing details, the match previews indicate a woeful record - well beyond the worst of professional football club statistics available elsewhere. The worst in the EPL is 5 injuries at a time (Burnley). Here's what I've managed to glean from the Thistle match previews, and even from these quotes, the statistics behind it are alarming. I've added a few edits and comments to clarify issues - all in squared brackets. Warning: reading this will not bring back pleasant memories. :-(

So, word salad aside, and bearing in mind I didn't read it at all, and you've said the club don't release details, is the tl;dr version that it's the physios fault our players get kicked, twist knees/ankles, play 5s with their mates during summer?  And is the worst record elsewhere reeeally 5 injuries at a time?

We have just been relegated, the season is fast approaching, we have a drastic shortage of players, we can't get the worst of the players that our fabulous manager signed off the books, nor does any sane thinking human think we have even a small chance of actually winning the league this season. I'm being realistic.

But it's sunny.  Look out of the window, if you get one.

  3. I don't really get the panic about Dundee Utd and Ross County making signings.  Who have we definitely missed out on?  I haven't seen them sign anyone and thought, oh no, we really don't want to be lining up against them.

  4. Yep, signing a back-up keeper with a decent amount of experience at this level is definitely a sign of desperation.  I'm sure his long-haul flight here was booked due to him being the only goalkeeper left in the world willing to play for us.

Anyway, welcome to Firhill Aaron.  It's much better than Australia.

Freddy Frans to Dundee United it looks like. Would be disappointed if we were outbid for him, as he clearly wanted to come back to Firhill. Would be so like us for him to slip through our fingers, either through dithering, or being tight-fisted like last time. If it's true, the entire club has pulled off a remarkable achievement in making the west end of Glasgow less appealing than the arse end of Dundee. Astonishes me that we can't seem to sell players on a move here. Aw well.

Bit of a leap with absolutely no information.  Cheer up.

  6. Good to get that one out of the way, now let's get on with releasing the kits.

I think that's a training top. I'd be surprised to see a red away top given how fussy things are around strip clashes these days.  Would certainly mean our home kit would have to be almost exclusively yellow and black.

  7. What was it then?  Did he suddenly develop in that month off, or did getting a run of games do it?    Anyway, doesn't really count for anything now.  The point was, if they have the ability then they should get the chance.

Penrice played half a season in midfield for Livi, pairing him and McCarthy as our 2 center midfielders is way to risky as they have less than 30 first team games between them

If they're good enough......no?  That sort of thinking left McCarthy on the bench for far too long last season while we had the revolving doors of experience in Barton and Edwards in there.

  9. He's not irreplaceable, but will be difficult to replace with the same standard.  I suspect we will miss his experience and organisational skills more than his shot stopping skills.

  10. Hearts are doing some strange business this summer.

I don't see why Penrice can't be a starter.  Played half a season for Livi and bossed it.  I would hope to see him and McCarthy get a chance to stake their claim as first picks this season.

Jagfox is right about Dools and Erskine.  We can't rely on their fitness so the quality of backup/competition in those areas becomes very important.

Maybe he is about to chuck it ,  which would explain why there's been no news on players signing

Totally agree,  something does not seem right at the moment,  the board and management team are hiding the truth,  i doubt very much that team rebuilding was underway the next day, as it said in the statement,  until i see any interviews done with Beattie or Archie on SKY Sports or STV       or  BBC   television,

Mostly just quoting these posts to point out that this rubbish doesn't come from me.   We let go about 15 players the day after.

Lets be honest, there is probably no player out there who wants to play for Thistle. Doolan and Erskine perhaps, but I doubt that playing for Thistle comes into any professionals dreams. The best we can hope for is willing to play for us, and for that we need to offer better terms and prospects than the host of other clubs that they are also willing to play for. This is not going to be easy, especially with so many players needed to form a squad. The only positive is that with so few signed up, any prospective player knows that there is a starting place available in the 1st XI.

It should be an interesting few weeks when the transfer window opens tomorrow.

True, my choice of words could have been better.
