Absolutely - it screamed 'gimmick' to me (from the same stable as, dugoutgate, envelopegate, etc.).
Id be more concerned if we were continually trying the same set play routines with nothing coming off. . This particular tactic, as mentioned, very nearly worked. Our record scoring from set plays has been good this year. Let's keep our negative comments for parts of his management that are deserving of them.

Caldwell must go now before we become even more detached. Football is a results driven business, I think Caldwell has assembled a good squad but if he can not motivate them as a team, we need a change.
Zanatta looks a good player as we know from his Alloa days, Hall looks decent and will get better with some games, a new manager is required to get the best out of this squad.
Gordon's sending off right in front of me was at best a booking.
Banzo should know better. straight red is all the ref could do.
Zanatta's substitution was a joke, best man in a thistle jersey by a mile.
New Manager next week, the board knew this start was possible so must have looked at candidates , hopefully not Power Point Presentations.
Mr Beattie/Mr Lee over to you. Act quickly before it is too late
Zanatta, having played very little football this season, was clearly blowing out his arse and was rightly taken off.

It's also deeply insulting that he was being asked to fulfil ambassadorial duties 48 hours prior to his release.
Do we know that he was asked to fulfil ambassadorial duties? Did he mention this during his Sportsound interview?

Signed. Best of luck.

Edwards played well?? I would have thought playing well for a central midfield player was winning the ball, doing something constructive with it, or, at the very least, just keeping it: something he failed to do consistently throughout the game. Great energy but technically not decent enough.

We have 3 center halls (Frans Seabiscuit and Lindsay)
3 goalkeepers
2 right backs
2 left backs (albeit Elliot is one and Banzo can cover)
5 center midfielders
3 forwards
We actually have plenty of cover
True. But I think it would be 'ideal' to have more than two solid option centre forwards and three centre backs covering two places. If money allowed, I think Archie would be thinking pretty much the same thing. I think Elliot as left back cover is fine. Banzo not so sure about. We do have 4 or 5 central midfield players but definitely lack defensive midfield cover.

Some people really do live in Teletubby Land, time to get back to reality folks. I am completely baffled by some of the gripes here.
3 players for every position? About as realistic as Dick Campbell taking over at Stamford Bridge, complete Twilight Zone stuff. When have we ever had that size of squad in the history of Partick Thistle? How many other teams in the league have that kind of cover? Celtic, maybe, and that's it. Aberdeen don't even have that big a squad.
So those criticising Partick Thistle for not having that size of squad obviously have very little knowledge of our club at all.
You haven't read my post properly. I've no criticism of the club. I know we have a restricted player budget. However, in, I think in key areas it is 'ideal' to have three solid options. The centre forward position would be one. Archie said quality over quantity this season and, I am quite happy, as ever, to trust his professional judgement on that.
-
So what you're saying is that when our best players are missing we aren't quite as good? Is there a team in the world who aren't exactly the same? What exactly do you expect?
We already have a number of our young players out on loan. Again, I'm genuinely not sure what your point is.
Aren't you the same guy who wanted another one or two centre backs brought it during the summer as Liam Lindsay apparently wasn't ready yet?
I think the point is that we are lacking quality cover in certain areas. We lack a defensive midfield player - when Abdul's been out we've suffered. We also lack an extra, decent experienced centre back. We couldn't manage a centre back on the bench yesterday. I also think we're short of one centre forward. Surely, in an ideal scenario, you want, at least 3 solid options fighting for their place in a position. Not 'make dos' This lack of squad cover shouldn't be a surprise to you: Archie stated at the start of the season he was hoping to have quality over quantity. It's a a bold, if not ideal move.

Chic, Peter Lindau, Chris Erskine, and, the one and only, Robert Law.

I agree, the injury to Lawless was critical. Before then he was moving into that space between their midfield and defence and knitting things together. Drawing players towards him and therefore creating space elsewhere. Hope he's fit for tyncastle.

When you're down to 10 having a player like Amoo on the park, with his pace on the break, is a real asset.

Spot on, Tom Hosie.

When a good player leaves a club you often find mixed reviews no matter how good he's been.

Fanzines were always a bit hit-and-miss. Anyone remember "The Johnny Flood Experience"?
True David, but 'The Johnny Flood Experience' was definitely a hit. . I remember it well and have a fair few of them stashed away somewhere. Quality.
-
He doesn't look like a centre forward. I wonder if we're looking for a replacement for Lawless?
-
Not really. They can take turn around . I'm assuming we're talking about Baird/Tade and/or Baird/Graham. My recollection was certainly Baird was the out and out striker when alongside Tade.
Repeating myself probably but I've got the impression Baird is out of sync with the rest of the attackers in trying to score from every opportunity. Normally no bad thing, and I've been slightly critical of the others laying off the ball instead of being more direct, but I feel Baird overdoes it. I think if he was less concerned about scoring and more attuned to assisting he could be more appreciated and indeed useful. Setting yourself up as an out and out goalscorer is gambling too much with your own confidence.
I don't believe our team is set up to simply judge a striker on the number of goals he scores. I'm not sure Baird realises that.
Well, if they 'take it turn around' the point still stands doesn't it? :-) Second strikers nowadays usually operate in the space between the back four and midfield. A role where I think he's best suited. Anyway Baird was at Dundee last season.
-
He never played behind a striker - he played in a front two.
Surely when teams play a front two, seldom nowadays, one sits just off the main striker in 'the pocket' ?
-
Agreed regarding Sutton. The type of player we need at the moment is a centre forward with strength and presence. When teams such as Aberdeen etc try and stop us playing by pressing us high up the pitch we need the option of playing it long. For this to work of course we need the right type of forward- which Baird and Doolan aren't.
-
Chris' value is in the fact that he is an end product player-unlike Gary 'fulla tricks' MacKay Steven. Last season he scored many absolutely crucial goals, often from nothing. He also set up a number of very important goals. I also admired the way he left Thistle after the news of his move broke. A great player and a decent lad.

well said.
-
Gabby to start ahead of Muirhead and Forbes for Fraser.
-
I thought Forbes had another decent game. The big Mexican looked assured and dominant; best of the trialist centre backs. I think Bannigan can play that Erskine role. He'll certainly give defensive cover on that side but will he contribute goals?

First time I've heard this 'retaining an interest ' from a selling club, usually kept quiet.
