  1. The difference on Wednesday will be that Morton will have to come to win. Raith and QOS were happy just to not be beaten. Totally different set of circumstances for Wednesday and the team should be chosen to reflect that. I'd have Murray back in if he's fit.

True; however Morton may feel that their best chance of a victory is to follow the same 'not to be beaten' tactics of pressing the opposition, doubling up on our full backs, etc.

  2. I rate Bachirou and Tidser highly - however there is no way Reid would get into the thistle side. Take a look at our goal against column. Both Muirhead and Balatoni are easily SPL class.

Bachirou is a decent defensive midfield player; he's not as good as Paul Paton though. Tidser would probably get a game ahead of Welsh, but there's not much in it. Not sure about Reid but he seems to be highly rated by the 'Ton fans. Left sided defender? better than Balatoni or Sinclair?

  3. You put this garbage on P&B as well, you talk about wanting to go forward where possible but then decide to play a CB at RB which was the main reason we were awful going forward away at Airdire in particular and in the other games when SOD was missing. :frantic:

But we played 442 with Muirhead at right back and SOD on the right side of midfield against Dunfermline in arguably our best peformance of the season: the 5-1 game against Dunfermline. SOD was sensational in that role that day. Let's go 442 again- possibly with Archie back in to offset the missing experienced players.

  4. Maybe just maybe Beattie is ahead of the game here and has a new manager lined up

Hopefully tomorrow we as fans should be given the up to date situation by our board

I'd be very surprised if this isn't the case.

  5. Murray, Bannigan,Forbes, Doolan and Erskine all off the pace today. Dunfermline wasted time all afternoon and got away with it. 6 substitutions, 2 sendings off and only 2 minutes extra ?

I said to my mate when Forbes had the ball for the penalty that he wouldn't score cos he wasn't playing well. Again we started a bi tentative - don't know why.

Forbes poor? I thought Forbes continued his excellent form today. His passing and technical ability on the ball were of a very high standard.

  6. Pars took their chance, we didn't take ours. That simple really. Jefferies set-up defensively, even with the man advantage and it worked.

I want to see the sending off again. Not convinced at all that should have been a clear goalscoring opportunity. As I saw it Dargo was outside the box, heading in the direction of the corner flag, and Balatoni was right beside Muirhead, meaning if he'd been free to get to the ball there'd have still been a defender blocking a tight angle.

Thought our penalty was a little bit soft but on the whole the Pars definitely set-out to play dirty today.

Archie was out of sorts when he came on. When Paton, Welsh and Muirhead aren't in the team spine we've not got a quick out-ball for O'Donnell or Sinclair to run on to. Erskine was sub-par today and I'd have taken him or Murray off rather than Lawless after the red. If we were chasing the game we should have really kept Doolan on alongside Craig, and thrown on McGuigan for a defender as a last resort.

It wasn't until Craig came on to play up along side McGuigan that we started to cause them problems. Erskine was out of sorts until the last 20 mins when he was excellent. We were unlucky today- not at our best but probably deserved to to take the tie to Fife.

  7. I'd go for:

    ----------------------Doolan-----------------------

    Erskine------------Welsh-------------Lawless

    --------------Forbes-------Paton-----------------

    Sinclair---Balatoni---Muirhead---O'Donnell

    -----------------------Fox---------------------------

I think this is our first team, although Doolan has a bit to do to 'cement' his place based on recent peformances.

  8. -----------------Smith

    Muirhead-----Balatoni-----Archie------Sinclair

    O'Donnell-----Paton-----Forbes---------Lawless

    --------------Erskine

    --------------Doolan

I think he'll go same team as sat with the obvious exception of keeper. Hamilton will probably sit back and defend deep so 442 to add more width to help stretch and draw them out. McGuigan will give us an option to be more direct if it's not working out.

  9. He's obviously had a couple of bad games, which I think fans will focus on, but the fact that he's been in two Scotland squads as well as having a B cap will tell us more about his form over a greater period of time.

If he's fit I would play him on Friday.

  10. That isn't what he was doing at all. Look at the highlights from the other thread- he kisses his finger and points at the crowd, as many players do.

He may well be, but the point still remains: some of the abuse that I've heard being shouted at Stevie- and Erskine btw- this season and last has been rather unhelpful. Good to see both players dealing with it in the best possible way.

  11. Some crackling photos there. Love the looks on the ball boys' faces as Forbes' screamer hits the net!

I agree- those photos of the game are excellent. However, one disappointing aspect is- if you look at one of the pics of Stevie O'Donnell celebrating his goal it looks as though he is running towards the JH putting his finger to his lips in a 'shooshing' motion. Obviously aware of the wholly unmerited abuse dished out to him at times by some of the less descerning members of our support this season and last.

  12. With regard to Dunfermline goal I believe we should be defending these free kicks with a much higher line. Got to question whether fox should have come out and dealt with it himself as well.

I thought Foxy may have been at fault. Muirhead should not have been in a position where he has to play the ball, facing his own goal, on the edge of the six yard box. I think Scott should have dealt with it. Good ball in by Dunfermline though- into that area that's difficult to defend.

  13. your missing the point big time !!

Not at all. The bar arrangements weren't perfect but it wasn't a shambles. If you arrived in the Aitken suite after two for such a big game when we get chucked out at 2.30 then you should expect to to wait a time to get served. Having someone extra behind the bar would obviously have helped to reduce the queue waiting time, but, IMHO not by enough to get too bothered about.

Jeez, almost forgot I saw the most exciting Partick Thistle team for decades beat their nearest rivals 5-1 yesterday.

  14. Slow was not what you want when you have a huge queue of people wanting to have a drink and make the club money.

It was that bad I wanted to get behind he bar and help the girls !

I do not mean to be critical of the girls serving as I feel they done the best they could.

I am critical of the organisation of the staffing levels and procedures that they follow !

Aye maybe, but not a shambles. I was 10 -15 mins in the queue before I got served (spent 10 mins getting served in the Woodside after the game) But there again I arrived at the Aitken at 1.30. If you leave it to two and after- given that we get thrown out at 2.30 and it was such a big crowd, well then...

  15. The poster is spot on for having a moan.

There were 3 barmaids and one of them was being trained up I think.

The main Lager on sale was not pouring well.

But regardless of all of the above.. I have a few questions ..

    1. Why when it was predicted to be a big game with a huge crowd .. was the bar so poorly staffed ?

    2. What is the problem with the pipework for the taps ? ... This is not the 1st time this has happened !

    3. Why can the bar persons not pre pour a number of beers as the game ends or for that matter dedicate 1 person to do just that pre match ?

    4. Who is in charge of this for Thistle ?

I for one had a table of 5 people leave early at 2.15 as the length of the queue dictated that trying to get another round in was futile.

Yes the club probably made a good few quid at the bar today .. but it could have been a lot more.

I am not an expert on bartending but I know how to make money as a business man and today was shambolic !

Lord Rosebury ... the game was a joy to watch !!

I think we get chucked out at 2.30 anyway don't we? Expecting to get served at a busy bar and then drink up given this time frame is probably pushing it.

Didn' t think it was a shambles; the bar arrangements were slow but orderly.

I agree- the game was a joy to watch.

  16. So someone has a bad experience but they shouldn't complain about it just because it's a big game?!

Improving the match day experience is something that's been a big thing recently, so the more things like this are pointed out the better it will hopefully be.

Not saying that at all. I'm all for improving the match day experience; however given the unusual circumstances sometimes you have to cut people some slack . Waiting in a queue to get served hardly amounts to a bad experience. It was obvious it was going to be busy in there today; the bar staff were doing their best; they don't decide when the bar shuts.
