  1. Jackie had a big surprise in store for Jim Jefferies today. I'm sure Dunfermline manager would have been expecting us to go 4-3-3and play our usual patient passing game; however the 442 and a more direct approach really caught them cold. Jackie got the tactics bang on.

  2. I wonder if Lawless could play in midfield with Slane playing on the right of the front 3 with Murray dropping to the bench?

Otherwise, I'd go with 1JL's team.

I think Jackie will have considered starting Slane tomorrow. They'll know our team inside out by now, but they don't know Slane. If he does come him I would expect Erskine to drop into the the Welsh role.

  3. I wouldn't necessarily be against Buchanan returning but I don't see much reason behind it unless we are going to adopt 4-4-2 on a more frequent basis which I don't think would be a good idea. Doolan is first choice when fit followed by Craig; the fact that the latter isn't going to be available is a blow but it's not disastrous to the extent that we need to bring in another player, in my opinion.

Would tend to agree with POTM that any money could be used better elsewhere.

I like the 433- it suits our players and helps our fluent style; however, we are now up against teams who know how to play against us. When a team stands off and sits in its own half it means that Erskine and Lawless- in a 433- can't find space and are not as effective. In a 442 Erskine and Lawless would be a little deeper and wider- this would help to draw out the opposition and stretch the packed defence, hopefully leaving gaps to exploit. I wouldn't be suprised if we started using it in certain games.

  4. Archie's last game was against Morton- where we lost two identical headed goals from corner kicks. In fact, we looked vulnerable from set pieces all game. He also looked a bit 'leggy' against the pace of Campbell that day. Conrad is very good in the air and it's no coincidence that we have looked more solid at set pieces since he came in.

Balatoni to play with Paton as captain.

  5. Thought we were our usual excellent selves up until the sending off- although starting 442 may have affected our fluency just a little ( I wonder if we'll set up this way next week?). The most disappointing aspect of the first half was not taking a few of the numerous early chances and this made the game more difficult than it should have been.

I thought we actually played very few long balls considering we were down to ten players (fewer options) and Cove started to press rather than stand off us.

  6. Terrible game.

A lot of players didn't get out of second gear.

O'donnell best player for thistle followed by Paton.

    Craig is a fckin idiot.

    Tumulty is a terrible referee.

In the next round, but god that was long ball garbage for far too much of the game.

    Disagree.

  7. A bad day at office for Jags , can't defend corners, Fox glued to his line, lost 2 goals down to this. Even so we should have been well ahead t ht as played some great football. Erskine and Lawless were poor today. Murray is becoming a liability after his first half yellow it was always on cards he would get sent off. Horrendous tackle IMHO deserved a straight red. And oh nearly forgot the ref, Roach absolute joke denied us a stonewall penalty when it was 2-1.

Finally great support upwards and onwards, hope today was just a lip.

    AJ

I thought Erskine was causing them plenty of problems and it should have been Lawless taken off- who , after a good first half faded a bit.

Not too desponded - before the sending off we were by far the better team.

  8. the transformation from a dithering one footed full back who was unable to judge time and distance has been a revelation, should he continue to sustain his current standard of performance he will not be here long enough to become a captain of the Mighty Jags, as he will playing at a much higher level with another outfit, however it’s just not Paul who has transformed, it’s the whole team, and it has been a joy to watch games this season, long may it continue

I don't think there's been any transformation. He was a decent right back- one of our best players when we came second a couple of years ago. I think he's now found a position where he can peform exceptionally well, rather than just well.

  9. Disagree. The team's form has been a welcome surprise. He's hardly had a sniff due to a positive situation, let's steer away from digging for negatives.

He's not done anything to warrent a 'sniff' . In the competitive and friendly games he has played in, he's been rather poor.

  10. Players that try to be positive and make things happen ,like Chris, are always liable to give the ball away more than players who just try to retain possession , like Shug Murray. If he was solely losing possesion and not making things happen there would be a problem. But thankfully that's not the case!!!! His goals yesterday were of a quality rarely seen in the first division. Love the guy. Players like Chris should be given full support.

  11. Possibly the team's worst performance for quite some while, since O'Donnell, Erskine and Welsh all had a bad day, but the only assessment that counts is the scoreline.:)

Really ? Our worst peformance? I thought some of the football we played especially in the second half was tremendous; very fluid especially the 3 goals. We were poorer against Hamilton.

  12.

The signings of Craig and Forbes suggest that Craigen and McGuigan have fallen down the "pecking order". It's possible that one or both could go out on loan. Doolan and Boyle benefited from their loan spells at Broadwood.

Out of interest, did Doolan actually score whilst at Clyde. I don't think his record was that good whilst there.
