  1. I have not suggested the Weirs are on an "ego trip" . I provided a quote from them, and offered opinion suggesting quite the opposite. My criticism is of the club offering by way of thanks, a gesture which inherently and demonstrably puts the Weirs in the public eye. My criticism has not been of the Weirs', (whom I described as "good people") acceptance of it which I suggest could possibly be a little awkward not to do. The conflict of interest is that while Partick Thistle quite reasonably might want to be seen as a grateful club, the Weirs have said very reasonably stated intent that, "We are not celebrities, nor politicians, nor public figures.". There is a conflict for anybody representing on one side public promotion and on the other discretion. I am not suggesting any sort of conspiracy. Nor am I suggesting any evil intent or unlawful intention or practice. Possible oversight... yes. Poor judgement... that is of course a matter of opinion.

    Cool story bro.

  2. Our generous benefactors are on record as saying -

"On winning the lottery almost three years ago, we made a decision not to speak publicly about any aspect of our lives. We are not celebrities, nor politicians, nor public figures. We try to live quiet, decent lives just as we did before."

Perhaps the club will show greater empathy with the Weirs' sentiments, avoid putting them in awkward positions and not proceed with any further ostentatious acts of gratitude to draw these good people into the public eye. I also have reservations with the club for the misappropriation of the word "patron" and asserting it as a special title or elevated position. While the Weirs can be addressed as "patrons" and their contributions, for which I am sure we are all supremely grateful, maybe exceptional in their size and significant in what they facilitate, the lesser contributions of many fans may be no less a sacrifice to them and should entitle them to similar respect and gratitude. I have little doubt that Mr. Weir himself would be more comfortable known as a "fan" rather than "patron", and one who like many others have given and paid considerable portions of their own personal "fortunes" to the jags cause. Furthermore, I suspect, despite the phenomenal proportion of his gift, he may feel some embarrassment at the suggestion he is the "first ever" to have generously donated to, or for that matter, been a customer of the club. No jealousy of those who can afford a season ticket, just a word of warning not to disrespect the PATG punters. And of course the elephant in the room .... the Weirs' well known political persuasion, the SNP and Scottish independence. Not a problem to us... come on in, what ye drinking? You buying? triffic!! I'll have a pint, thanks. Make yersel at home, I'll grab ye a cushion and you put yer feet up. Put on yer jags scarf, relax and watch the game..... Sign the guest book.... ,muckin in and helping with the clear up is grand.... just not so sure if carving your name in the table is a good idea even if the current boss told you to do it (he's having a rerr terr on your tab and might be a bit pissed). We've a got a reputation to keep..... Here, have ye met ma pal, he's a disgruntled unionist, but he's been comin to Firhill for about 30 year, ....mon i'll introduce yeez.... :fan: :fan: :fan: :fan:

    U wot m8?

  3. Anyone able to explain the bizarre definition of a Thistle fan as being someone who is 18+ and has had a season ticket for over three years? I'm presuming there's some sort of legal, rational explanation as otherwise that's utterly ridiculous and alienating, particularly for someone like myself who doesn't live in Scotland anymore (so doesn't have a season ticket) but who still contributes to the club financially in many ways.

    Anyone got any idea?

  4. Of course players are entitled to support who they like. Also nothing wrong with them going to games (if we aren't playing and those games don't affect us). But to tweet repeatedly about your support for that team (replete with "WATP"-type rubbish and stupid wee Union Jack emojis), after having previously made a tit of yourself on social media, is ridiculously poor form.

Given that we stood by him last year when he was heavily punished for his betting antics, and given that the team he is gloating about supporting are our city rivals and will be our league rivals next year, the only conclusion to be drawn is that he's an utter bam.

  5.

I make it Doolan: 22 starts, 8 goals scored in those games. Pogba: 13 starts, 2 goals in those games. Crude stats, I know, but Doolan's goals-to-starts ratio is more than double that of Pogba, who has started in 7 of the last 10 matches.

So as I said, Doolan has started in substantially more matches than Pogba. As I also said, I'm no great fan of Pogba but I accept that he often does a specific job, for which the number of goals scored aren't the only measurement.

Doolan is a professional and I have no doubt he accepts this. To describe it as "bordering on criminal" is nonsense.

  6. To suggest this is a golden period shows how much thistle as a club and their fans have been denied consistent

    top flight football.

Eh? We are a club who have historically been in the First Divisin or lower reaches of the Premier (for a few seasons at a time). To say we have been "denied" it suggests we have an inherent right to it, which we don't. Three consecutive seasons of top flight football led by a club legend and with some quality players is, for a club like ours, a relative golden period. I'm amazed that anyone who has supported Thistle for any reasonable period of time could be displeased with our current lot.

  7.

fans wondering if Firhill is a fun place to spend a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon.

On course for our third successive season of top flight football, with a club legend as manager and a collection of some of the best players we have seen in decades (and the return next season of one the most "fun" players, in Erskine, that we have ever had). I would suggest that any Thistle fan who isn't enjoying this time, or who isn't aware that this really is a golden period, or who doesn't view it as "fun" needs their heads checked.

Yes, that's a mystery to me! I'm delighted that he has signed up, but frustrated that he's basically been relegated to being a substitute for a visibly inferior player.

He hasn't though. Doolan has started far more games than Pogba this season. As much as I love Dools, he does go through spells when he isn't scoring and can be ineffectual in a lot of games. I'm not a big Pogba fan but he does offer something different. Every team in the world has competition for places, and no player will play every game. It isn't "bordering on criminal", it's just football.

  9. I have no idea what the problem is but I know when it comes to the crunch games in cups and league we bottle it. Never looked like scoring today and always looked as if a disaster was just around the corner. Sports psychologist needed.

No we don't. This is the kind of thing that every fan thinks of their club, but for us it isn't true. There's been many times over Archie's tenure that we have had must win games that we have won. Yesterday wasn't one of them but there we are. I'm already over it, and it's been a great season regardless.

  10. The result of poor choices by the managerial team.

Scully is worth a goal to the opposition, and on this occasion he failed to get down quickly enough to a shot, although he had a clear view of it, and later on he flapped at a ball in the box instead of catching it.

Most of the first half was wasted trying to compete with Ross County at hoofball. Eventually, when it dawned that that wasn't bringing any return, the punts came in time after time after time from the wings. One scramble in the opposition box and one shot (from the area in front of the goalmouth) were the closest we came to scoring, although the latter, like every high cross in, was saved by Scott Fox. We could have retained possession and kept punting in high balls until next season without scoring. One actual shot on target.

The priority for next season is to learn about modern offensive play, because this old-fashioned emphasis on crosses is not working, and the low score record confirms that. Facs are chiels that winna ding.

You're absolutely obsessed with crosses. Really odd.

  11. We really need another centre back as cover. You should have 4 centre backs in your squad. The cuts in Archie budget makes it an area he has decided to cut.

Christie Elliott has not let us down at left-back.

Interesting to see what Archie does with Frans - I like him and has done well but him and Seaborne and not best suited playing together especially against teams with pace.

We could do with a centre back with a little more pace about him to give us different options.

You should have four centre backs in your squad? Maybe if you've got cash to splash. More than happy to have three quality centre backs with guys like Miller who can provide cover if required. Signing another centre back would just mean either sitting him on the bench or mean one of our three quality centre backs would have to sit on the bench.

  12. Archie's comments after the Aberdeen game: "It’s a developing partnership [between Pogba and Fraser] and one that we’ll be looking to improve moving forward. Pogba is getting better all the time with games under his belt and he’ll hope to finish the season strongly." It looks to me as if Archie is trying to convince himself to keep Pogba for next season. Doubtless Doolan will continue to warm benches until it's too late to get him to score enough or he has lost his sharpness (as in the Aberdeen game). :(

Or he's just being positive about the performances of two players who have had stop-start seasons? There's nothing wrong with competition for Doolan, as Dools himself has said, and Pogba has done well in his last few games.

  13.

I'd be seriously asking that question under normal circumstances. As I read it a proviso of the Weir's investment is the establishing of this Trust and it's percentage holding. Imo as long as the Weirs are satisfied with this and with the two trustees then that's by far the most important issue. I suppose this is just to get the ball rolling so to speak and anyway it's not as if we've much of a history of an effectively run Trust when its representatives have been appointed democratically.

Perhaps so. Just strikes me as a bit odd if this is meant to represent a new chapter of fan engagement etc., whilst the two fan reps have been hand-picked by the club. I don't want to be overly critical though as, as I said, I'm sure these two will be excellent. As you say, this is perhaps only to get the ball rolling and I'm sure extensive fan engagement and consultation will be forthcoming.

  14. 2 days of constant rain? There's been several times during the last 2 days when there's been no rain.

What a massive carrot killie have got for tomorrow now win and they are out of the bottom 2. I can only hope Dundee try as hard against them as they do when playing against us

Sorry Michael Fish. Let's say two days of frequent rain then.

  15. What else could they have done? Maybe start by not telling everyone who asked them bare faced lies about the game not being in any doubt.

All tweets asking about pitch inspections were completely ignored, and everyone who phoned the club was told that there were no plans for a pitch inspection and the game was on.

The club are losing absolute fortunes here and they certainly aren't helping themselves.

Can only imagine what the Weirs make of it from a purely operational point of view.

My post was in relation to the pitch, not communication which I agree has been rotten.

  16. Getting beyond a joke. Surely they could have done more to make sure it was not called off. Missed out on another sold out hospitality, big travelling support etc that will not be there for a midweek game.

Curious to know what else they could have done. I presume you're aware of everything that the club have done or haven't done re: the pitch? If so please share.

It's times like this that us football fans are at our most irrational. The game has been called off with 4 hours until kick off after two days of almost constant rain. These things happen, it's nobody's fault.

Communication from the club about the pitch is another matter though...

  17. i live in the south side so can't comment on how bad the pitch is and have no reason to doubt what you guys are saying.

If it is going to be off should they not announce it now as Aberdeen is a fair hike and it ain't really ideal for away fans with a lot of travelling being left late to be notified whether game is on or off.

If it's unplayable then as well to call it off now

Call it off now for the sake of Aberdeen's travelling fans? Unless they're walking, I think we can give it a while yet.

  18. Some of the stuff in this thread and elsewhere is ridiculous.

Yes, we may well lose tomorrow. Hearts are a much bigger club than us, have much more money, and much better players, so it wouldn't be a massive surprise if they do. Doesn't mean we are pathetic. Doesn't mean the manager is clueless. Doesn't mean we should chuck it before a ball has even been kicked. I do wonder what planet some people live on sometimes.
