  1. This is, obviously, not the start either Chris or other Partick Thistle fans wanted. Given the end of last season, where we were very close to promotion to the Premier League, perhaps our expectatons have been exaggerated beyond reason.

I would like us to win every game we played.  Which is, frankly, a tad unrealistic.

I think Chris will turn this around.

    Just saying.

  2. I'd be disappointed is PTFC didn't do everything they could to win promotion. That, ladies and gentlemen, is what football leagues are all about. If we make it, to promotion, then great. If we fail to make promotion, then I for one will be, ahem, upset.

Will it stop me supporting the team? Obviously not.

Long term fans, and I include myself in that group, will shrug it off  and move on.

But it would be a disappointment.

I think PTFC can cut the mustard in the Premier League.

But a fan would say that, wouldn't they?

  3. Well, what do you suggest we do? If we have income that exceeds expenditure I'd like to see it spent on the management and playing staff. Perhaps if we win a few tournaments, then the small change could be spent on your dream. Frankly, we struggle to fill two sides of the current stadia, and the away support usually makes a pathetic job of filling the third.

For me 'tis not a priority. Perhaps after we win something major?

A wins a win, well done to Doolan and the team for seeing it out, disappointed in the Jags support today or the lack of it, thought there would have been more.....

Well, I thought at the time of the game that the support was just about equal. We were certainly more vocal than the Ayr United supporters. Gather there was some trouble with trains.

Still a decent turnout of the red and yellow!

  5. Jordanhill Jag,

Point taken. It is not at all clear to me that we are either owned by us or them. (For the absence of doubt, I want us owned by fans).  Until that is settled we are left between one model and another, Either we are fan owned or we continue with some sort of hybrid where ownership is more important that sucess. I think that that is a route towards disaster. The possibility that the two sides could come together would, obviously, be welcome. Huge clubs seem to manage that without any difficulty whatsoever - you see them across continental Europe everywhere.

Your constructive thoughts about that would be welcome.

  6. What do I know too?

If the decision to sack -  has he really been sacked (?) It is not at all clear that he is off the payroll, is it?

i McCall may not be the most magical manager we have ever had, I remember our slalom down the league not so long ago,  Perhaps two slaloms down the league even. But there were 'reasons' such as injuries and stuff. Before that stuff hit, we were competing for near top of the league.

Frankly I do not like our structure. Supporters voices and, investors money are needed to get us out of this public relations disaster.

I suppose I'm saying that the board isn't covering itself in glory.

What do they have to say for themselves?

    Seems like silence to me.

McParland's talk to the team was pure perfection on that day: "We won the 2nd Division playing how we play (attacking). Go out and enjoy it and get in around them  [I'm paraphrasing, but there was no trying to contain them , hold out to half-time etc. It was GO FOR IT ] , with maybe some extra encouragement for the defence in the second half.... and they were up to the task.

Oh, I so hope you are right!

  8. Jaggy,

My point is that a club like ours has to maximise income from whatever source it can. I would doggedly fight for your right to view a game from the South Pole, as long as you paid a fee.

Ok, or as long as you gave us publicity!

Perhaps we could persuade a lot of Penguins to take over the South Stand!

    A step too far?

I couldn't make the game today. Much as I would have liked to. I was unwell.

I attempted to watch the game 'live' and that, for some odd reason was impossible.

Partick Thistle has to get it's streaming sorted out so that supporters that aren't able to attend can still both contribute to revenue and feel involved.

    My tuppenceworth.

"Nothing odd about it, there is no streaming allowed in the UK for any Scottish league club. Nothing to do with PTFC. It was allowed over the past 2 seasons due to Covid stopping fans from attending matches."

Could I just point you to the extension of that regulation to smaller clubs such as ours having a potential revenue stream being cut off?

I would far prefer to attend a game than otherwise, but, if I cannot attend for whatever reason, I would like the freedom to pay and watch. Thereby contributing to my club!

Whilst you think it isn't odd, I do.

Interesting to compare some attendance figures yesterday…. we had just under 3,000 despite being joint top of the league. Dunfermline, top of their league, had 3,644 v Peterhead, and Falkirk had around the same figure at home to Clyde despite then being 5th in the league before kick off.
Perhaps underlines the continuing erosion of our core support relative to other clubs,  and makes it all the more frustrating we have a board which isn’t interested in fan participation (and potential additional funding)..

Can I ask that when commenting on the myriad of Fans' organisations/trusts activities that the correct terminology is used so as to avoid confusion.

On the basis of consistency I would suggest the following:

     Partick Thistle Trust: PTFC Trust

    The Jags Foundation: TJF

    The Jags Trust: JT

Just to add further confusion in addition to the above there also exists The Partick Thistle Charitable Trust which as the name suggests is a Charitable organisation and in no way linked to the above.

Well, who should we support? I'd be tempted by the Partick Thistle Charitable Trust, in the name only, but is that is not enough? We need finance to climb the leagues, yes / no?

  12. Can I ask whether you see me as a 'right and proper person' to take over what I would frankly see as a poisened chalice?

    I am no-one.

It is, frankly, difficult to see the idea of attempting to stop the emnity between two sides in a war, with little hope of finding common ground a likely or possible outcome.

I am willing to try, but I suspect my  attempt at reconciliation will fall on deaf ears.

  13. My problems are a tad different. There are usually four or five of us, me, my sons and two of my grandchildren that attend games. We are not season ticket holders. Over the last few home games I have trecked up to Firhill and got an envelope with the requisite number of tickets. Simple but pretty inconvenient. Perhaps if we could commit earlier in the week that method would be valid, PTFC could post the tickets out to one of the adults. But is hard to confirm who's coming and who isn't. This weekend it will be four of us, me, my two sons and only one of the grandchildren. I imagine many people may be in that sort of situation.

This week, as someone else was paying,  he was provided with electronic tickets. It sounds straightforward enough. You search your phone and wave it in front of some receiver and in you go. Attempting to do most of this as a dry run for the day, it was a bit confusing.

Perhaps it is simply because it is the first time we've used this system, but I am a tad alarmed that I will make an a**e of it.

    I am 74, y'know.

Wish me well. Wish us all well.

  14. sandy,

Thanks for that. I am quite astonished at the secrecy surrounding their 'preferred recipients' of his share in the club. If it is kosher then they ought  to have announced it immediately. In other words, we could all have stood back in amazement that we hadn't thought of it first!

It is, frankly terrible Public Relations!

  15. I kinda hope that, whatever comes out of this, that Colin Weirs hopes and wishes are fulfilled. I am not at all convinced that his hopes and wishes are at the heart of any of this fracas. It seems to me that somewhat lesser folk have decided what he meant. He must be birling in his grave!

This is all decending into a Victorian novel about who gets what once the hero is dead. It is pretty sickening, to be honest.

I don’t know what it’s like in Scotland, but here in my part of the north of England few where masks on public transport and in enclosed places. There is no advice re: Covid given out any more, yet apparently it’s now on the rise, and seemingly easier to catch. Some foolishly say, ‘it’s just a cold’ but there are many who’ve had ‘Long Covid’ who would strongly disagree with that! It’s as if the ‘authorities’ think it’s ‘all over’ yet it clearly isn’t. A WHO (World Health Organisation) spokesperson recently said, quoted in the press, “People should still wear masks in enclosed places and follow the advice as previously given (ie distance) when in and amongst groups of people.” But he also said, “ In some countries, governments are giving the impression it (Covid 19) is not a concern any more, and that is a problem in itself and far from the truth.”

As for the streaming stopping, I think the reason is nothing to do with Covid or common sense for that matter. It was brought in initially to allow people to see matches, when no-one was allowed to attend. It was then continued to allow those contracting Covid (or those unsure) the chance to still see the game, on TV, but make the sensible choice not to go to the match and possibly infect others. Now streaming  has been removed, not because Covid isn’t an issue any more, as it could well be for years to come. It’s most likely because ‘the powers that be’ feel that allowing streaming to continue adversely affects numbers actually going to the match.

That's, more or less, what I feel. Away in the dim and distant past I cought Covid. I have no idea whether I am in the clear.

I have no idea whether I am clear of the virus or not.

    Your comment:

"It’s most likely because ‘the powers that be’ feel that allowing streaming to continue adversely affects numbers actually going to the match."

seems to me to be right on the button.

Charge me exactly the price of my admission to the game.

I support my club. What I will not do is put other Partick Thistle supporters at risk.

Anyone know if this is the ‘before’ or ‘after’ pic?

I thought we were digging down to at least the underground to fix our pitch. So, this has just got to be a photo from days gone bye.

Please, oh Lord!, let's assume that the very least that is going to happen is the canal is diverted via the South and East Ends of Glasgow. It would be a generous gesture by the City of Glasgow.  Leaving us dry.

Which, naturally, will be our new problem!

  18. What is the fear about us PATG folk? (Pay at the Gate)

I cannot afford season tickets for myself, my two sons and my two grandchildren to cover every game.

    We have to budget.

And some weeks we are broke.

Yet we see ourselves as just as strong supporters as our richer friends?

  19. sandy,

Thanks for replying. There is something wrong with the way that Colin Weir's gift is being dealt with, at least in my opinion. I am not at all convinced that the people who have taken over his estate are acting the way he thought they would.

Could be wrong, but I don't think so.
