  1. You might find this site a bit more informative.

    http://www.qpfc.com/

Queen's Park's first game (apart from games amongst themselves) was in August 1868 against a team from Glasgow called Thistle FC - not THE Thistle obviously. But you'll find it all on the website. Very interesting it is.

  2.

All free kicks taken by the defence in their own penalty area, as well as goal kicks, the ball must LEAVE the penalty area before it is in play. The ball wasn't in play in this instance, so the free kick had to be retaken.

copy/paste from the laws of the game

If, when a free kick is taken by the defending team from inside its own penalty

area, the ball is not kicked directly out of the penalty area:

    • the kick is retaken

    Rant over

Goals kicks yes, but not necessarily all free kicks according to the section on Free Kicks in "Interpretation of the Laws of

the Game and Guidelines for Referees".

    "Distance

If a player decides to take a free kick quickly and an opponent who is less

than 9.15 m (10 yds) from the ball intercepts it, the referee must allow play to

    continue.

If a player decides to take a free kick quickly and an opponent who is near the

ball deliberately prevents him taking the kick, the referee must caution the

player for delaying the restart of play.

If, when a free kick is taken by the defending team from inside its own penalty

area, one or more opponents remain inside the penalty area because the

defender decides to take the kick quickly and the opponents did not have time

to leave the penalty area, the referee must allow play to continue."

I never knew this either until I looked it up just now.

  3. I could be wrong in this, but I believe it's because united Germany is considered to be a continuation of west Germany rather than being a brand new country. Therefore, the national team is, in FIFA's view, the same one just playing under a new name and as such keeps the records of the west Germany team. It's the same as Serbia being considered the successor nation to Yugoslavia, or that England would be the successor nation to the UK in the case of Scottish independence.

According to the FIFA website, before the war they were known as Germany, then from 1954-1990 as Germany FR (Federal Republic to distinguish them from the so-called German Democratic Republic, otherwise known as East Germany), and from 1994 the name reverted to Germany.

  4. Yeah but how many if them will win their leagues / when we win the 1st and Celtic win the spl Glasgow will have 3 league winners in same season - cant see that happening in any other city-maybe not even in history?

It's probably not going to happen this season, but in the 1934-35 season London clubs won in three divisions - Arsenal (Div 1), Brentford (Div 2) and Charlton Athletic (Div 3 South). And the only reason a London club didn't win Div 3 North was that there weren't any in that division.

  5. By the way, why do the English-language media use the spelling "Dynamo Kiev"?

Since the official name is "ФК «Динамо» Київ", it must be "Dinamo Kyiv".

"Dynamo" sounds very German -- Dynamo Dresden, Berliner FC Dynamo, etc.

Not just English. The Germans use Dynamo Kiew (and you'll no doubt know that the "w" is pronounced the same as the English "v"), but they do use Dinamo Zagreb. Why it is so, I do not know. By the way I found these on the Kicker website (kicker.de); I used to buy Kicker when I studied German at school.

  6. Ssaw that earlier i did, and thought of posting similar comment. Then I thought, Crazy Davie, along in a minute, he will be ;)

It's good my 880 years leads Yoda to know these things will happen :thumbsup2:

I was only following the instruction in the first post which says:

"Continuing the thread from the old forum, where you post a song name. The next poster has to use at least one of the words from the previous posters song name. "
