I seem to mind we were close to signing Lyle Taylor in the summer of 2014, just missing out with our bid. Had we even drawn the last game of the 13-14 season (at home to County) we'd have ended up 3 league places better off. Tend to believe we didn't get him due to budgetary reasons rather than valuation reasons and downing tools after yon midweek Hearts game cost us big time.

He went to League 1 ( Scunthorpe ) who could no doubt offer him far better wages.

Edited to add: the money being gifted to the SPFL looks like being spread evenly between all member clubs, which is a bit ridiculous really.

Totally preposterous. I see it was originally mooted as for 'lower league' clubs which miraculously changed to all 42 as soon as Doncaster got involved.

I am pretty sick of Hearts sense of entitlement, attempts to bully the rest, despite the fact it may ultimately benefit us.

I think Hearts are completely justified in their actions. A drop from Championship --> L1 involves a financial hit, however that is dwarfed by Premiership --> Championship. Particularly for a club with the outgoings that Hearts have.

I always liked Muirton, but in multiple visits I don't think I ever saw us win there. For most of my Thistle-following life that was true also for East End Park, Tannadice, and Dens Park! But glad to say that victories at those three grounds were eventually witnessed.

I must have been to Broomfield on numerous occasions but I'm struggling to remember a win there.

Mothballing the lower leagues sums up Scottish Football nicely. Your Div One club gets to vote on relegating a club that possibly could start the season playing behind closed doors. Instead that club finds itself in a league that can't even start their fixtures never mind fulfil them.

The EFL are very specific on this:

'The principle of relegation across all three divisions is integral to the integrity of the pyramid, from the Premier League down to the National League, provided we have assurances that the National League will start season 2020/21 (i.e. the relegated Club in League Two has somewhere to play).'

Agree with you. I was just quoting what the record article said. It mentioned Morton were looking at streaming options. On off the ball Jason Leitch has just spoke about fans going to grounds even though games are behind closed doors, and he mentioned fans sitting on the hill at Firhill could be a problem.

Hopefully some thought can be given to whether paying a Chief Executive 'who only acts on behalf of the clubs'  £400k / year can be justified.

According to the daily record  at least 3 clubs in the championship cannot afford to play games behind closed doors. They are looking to either mothball their clubs for a season or only play an 18 game season. It says that Thistle could afford to start the season behind closed doors.

Nobody in the Championship can afford to play behind closed doors. What income stream is there?

QOS chairman has said for  championship clubs to play games behind closed doors, they would need to be subsidised by either the government or football authorities.

If somebody can give me one good reason for the government ( ie. us ) to subsidise Championship games to go ahead with nobody watching I'm all ears.

For those that think we should forgive the other clubs that voted to put us into league 1 the following article starts to hint at the ramifications of that

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8342029/Scottish-League-One-Two-JANUARY-SPFL-set-crisis-talks-future.html

I don't trust the Mail but it does have an air of truth to it.  Although why league 1 and 2 aren't viable and the champonship is another question?

If we don't play games until January I would start to question if we will ever return

Extending the Championship to 14 ( PTFC / Falkirk ) should be a no brainer if it suits the rest of League 1 / 2 not to be playing.

As a Mainz 05 fan, somewhat ironic that the first match back is in Cologne!

My first year in Germany was in a town near Mainz and my neighbours took me along to matches. There was a certain Jürgen Klopp playing in defence for Mainz that year.

I've been to a game at Mainz ( and Cologne ), two good grounds.

What happy memories driving back down the road from Peterhead.....If only we had the spirit of that team a few months back...Happy days...

If I remember correctly that team were even worse than this year's shower. Finished fourth in Div 2, nearly threw away a 3-1 lead at home in the semi and fluked a last minute deflection in the final after Peterhead blew a stack of chances.

To put an optimistic slant on our current predicament, it gives us the chance to win another league championship or two.

An opportunity that has been denied to all the self-preserving, serial mid-table mediocrity clubs like Aberdeen, Motherwell, St. Johnstone, etc. in many decades.

Yeah I'm sure they'd swop their Scottish Cup wins / European appearances for the chance to win a league comprising Forfar, Cove Rangers, Peterhead etc.

If ever a statement summed up a tinpot club that's it.
