Well done to Accies for winning in Govan last night, despite being bottom of the league.

They, like so many other teams, manage to win against them.

We fold/roll over belly up against them, time and time again, season after season, regardless of how crap they are.

    Discuss.

Every time I have seen us play against an Old Firm team in the last 15 years the players have looked like they don't believe they can win, aren't interested in the game and just want to get to the next one, or see the badge on the other team's shirts and chuck it.

Hamilton see every game from the start of the season as a battle for points which is why they have survived in the top flight longer than us with lower crowds and less resources.

It would take a whole paradigm shift at PTFC from top to bottom for us to achieve a result like that at Ibrox - and it won't happen any time soon with the current board.

We could have 7000 home fans there on Tuesday and I doubt it would have any positive effect on this squad. They just seem so half arsed about everything. I don’t blame anyone for staying away on Tuesday, having been disappointed so many times this season. Repeatedly the fans have turned out in good numbers and really given good backing, only to be badly let down by a gutless display on the park.

Correct, sadly. I'll be going but don't have any expectation of a spirited performance from this team.

Tbh that’s still very general and vague .....if you mean stop the academy , the charitable trust and women’s team say so but then show how they are affecting the teams poor results and stopping them will help

were nit really a business that’s diversifying in the sense you mean

Nothing should be spent on these other ventures. All money available should be spent on playing budget for the first team.

  4. I think we have to hold our nerve to an extent. I don't think our squad is weaker than last year and we have a more pragmatic manager. The league is very similar to last year, and an overall poor standard. 8 points currently separating 4th-10th. We are able to win any match, home and away.

It's been another dismal, dreadful season but our support, as always, is second to none and were great last season as well when called upon. We are more than capable of surviving this season again.

It's the typically OF attitude.  Hate the other team more than you love your own team.

Club released a statement saying Celtic fans will be refused entry.  I don't much like the club's approach to these games but that's about all they can do when offering tickets for sale online.  Suggesting fan registration at the start of the season, having to go to Firhill for tickets, showing yer Thistle tattoo to get a ticket are all daft ideas when clubs are desperate to attract more punters.

What is the point of the whole event? To try to win a competitive game of football? Or just to make a sum of money which will be of uncertain benefit?

  6. We are playing competitive professional football here, there is literally no point in even turning up if we don't think we have a chance of winning. Bigger upsets have happened in sporting history. Looking forward to it, and I'll always be proud to be a Thistle fan.

Robson is gash. But Slater is almost as gash. He looks alright in flashes and then hides for 99% of every game, which is exactly what he did last week. He’s a guy that sums up a lot of what’s wrong with our current squad of fraudsters.

There isn't a single player in our squad right now with the guts to dry to dig us out the bottom of the league.

FFS what is it about us when we score and our lack of composure ?

It has been a problem for a long time. Total panic stations. Need a calm experienced player at CB and CM.

  9. No way Thistle should be running scared of Ayr Utd (or any side in this division, regardless of form). We've taken their manager - now time to take 3 points and then we'll have our favourite striker back :thumbsup2:

I realise I am in the minority, but I did think we deserved something from the game. QOS were better in the first half, but I felt we were better in the second. As others have said we are short up front and although Mansell doesn't score a lot of goals, I feel we should have him on the bench for games like yesterday when we needed somebody upfront to help Miller.

Had we equalised or won the game I don't think anyone could have said it would have been a steal for us.

Players still lacking confidence - we havn't had a good period of winning at home and playing comfortably for a number of years now.

  11. Playing the ball out from the back only works if you have technically good players with good ball retention and accurate passing. It seems to be a very modern approach but it won't work in the Scottish second tier because we will never have a squad of that kind of player. We need more graft in midfield and more directness in attack, it should be simplified.

McCall's record at Firhill. Obviously some mitigating factors involved and he's thankfully moved on with things.

Would he even want to leave Ayr at the moment?

As I remember, not spectacular. Gary Harkins in his pomp got us second but in reality we weren't close to St. Johnstone that year.

I can remember plenty of duff performances under McCall, and also plenty of the much-hated 'tippy-tappy' ineffective play...

When Archie for the sack we should have been looking for a manager that was able to make us defensively better and more direct in attack to aim for a quick return to the top flight. GC clearly wasn't that guy hence it was always a struggle.

This time I think we should be looking a manager that can initially make the current squad play to their potential and recreate Partick Thistle as a club that finds good young local talent  with the overarching aim of a return to the premier league within the next 2 seasons. That needs someone with a track record at this level of identifying undiscovered talent, that can develop players and mould them into a team.

With that in mind my selection for manager in order of preference:

Ian McCall -some distance- Stephen Craigan, Danny Lennon, Jackie McNamara, Kris Doolan --some distance --- Billy Dodds, Derek Adams

Managers that I would avoid like the plague:

Hughes, McIntyre, Pressley, Miller, Duffy, Stubbs

Why have you said "Kris Doolan" when you have then outlined your criteria as "someone with a track record at this level of identifying undiscovered talent, that can develop players and mould them into a team"

Our last board appointed the wrong person.

I think if you look at their record at their previous clubs, that gives you an idea of how it might go. Caldwells managerial record before he came to us was poor. Now I think he will find it extremely difficult to get a managerial job in football at  a decent level.

Won League 1 with Wigan in England and Manager of the Year - looks very good on a CV and a higher level than his predecessors at Thistle.

Clearly came across very well at a job interview. Not completely surprising he was given the job and I'm not sure his appointment at the time can be hugely criticised.

Yes, I think we can all agree we have to get the right replacement. You'd have to be somewhat perverse to want the wrong person.

Yep, you kinda only find out if they are the right replacement a while after they are appointed.

Oh and basically everyone ever connected with Partick Thistle doesn’t have a good word to say about Gary Caldwell.

It would be interesting to hear specifically who you had spoken to, or, if it was in confidence, the number of people you had spoken to.

If Gary Caldwell hadn't released Chris Erskine last season would you still hate him as much, and if not, why?

So the club will know where to send the invoice if they get fined then?

I agree with the principles of the song and I don't think any of us should have to pretend any respect for the Old Firm.
