Not really wanting to get involved in the debate of Rovers budget vs ours, however I note that on the equivalent thread over on P&B, several contributors, including Rovers supporters comment on how well Ian Murray was backed by the new board given the players they recruited at the start of the season. I can't provide any data, however it appears to be generally accepted that their budget is at bigger end of scale.
The main point for me is that there were several extenuating circumstances at play during the close season, therefore it is way too soon to pass judgement on Kris Doolan's recruitment abilities.
I don't think that will be the undeniable proof some posters would be willing to accept.

What exactly is your agenda javeajag?
Full disclosure please - to an objective (in my case) observer of Doolan's tenure, I have the impression that you are desperate for him to fail for some reason.
Or have I read that wrong???
You may have read it wrong but I share your view and doubt we're not the only ones. But then again where's the proof?

Given Dowds recent form I fear we are making a mistake in giving him to Ayr. More deserving of a start than Adeloye. However I fear there’s too much water under the bridge between him or his agent and Doolan now
Dowds has come on at Ayr because he is getting regular game time, something he would not get with us.

Looked like a scrappy goal at the time but seeing it from that angle it was well played.

There were a few points made by the BBC commentary team on Friday which stood out for me.
It was pointed out that Ian Murray had kept the majority of his squad from last season. They were the only team which had nothing to gain or lose at the end so he is in the second season of shaping the team the way he wants. The team's fitness was also mentioned a few times and this is probably the main reason for their ability to push right to the end of games and score late goals. The way they move play on quickly was another thing pointed out (their throw-ins were compared to Celtic). Their keeper looked like the start of many attacking plays whereas jamie Sneddon looks as though he hasn't a clue where to put the ball out to. I noticed during the Airdrie games a few times our midfiels and wide players were signalling for the ball and he took such a long time to kick out the opportunity they could see was lost.
In my mind 3rd place, in this league so far, is probably about right but changes will need to be made for the second half of the season if we are to stay in play off contension. This is both to fill the gaps in the squad that others have mentioned but also to work with the squad as it is.

JJ, the more I read your input on this thread the conclusion I am reaching is that you seem to be annoyed that the club hasn't gone bust!
And just as an aside, what DO you have against bowling clubs?

100% its a legitimate way and we worked very efficiently using Volunteers in the past - a small organisation like Thistle cannot afford a large Non Playing Staff Overhead as a % of overall budget
But if asking fans to contribute to a playing budget is "begging bowl" then surely using volunteers is exploiting fans almost to the extent of slave labour? It's also not sustainable as the volunteers may just not turn up.

Go look at the detail of the “ investment” the odds of the monies ever being repaid are pretty much zero
its a handout
the Club should be balancing the Books on normal trading
So, should we go part time, sack all the directors and only appoint millionaires with a lot of spare cash to the board, sell off Firhill and ground share with Maryhill Juniors and perhaps ask the SPFL if we can go into the 3rd division and stay there? That could maybe balance the books without "begging" the people who own a majority of the club for some funding.
I know much of this is ridiculous over-exaggeration, but it was you who hi-jacked the thread in the first place.

No but TJF are supporting them - lets call it for what it is - a Begging Bowl - its up to the Board to balance the Budget & Provide Funds for Players - if they cant do that then they are removed by the Shareholders
So what are you saying? That no-one who doesn't have bottomless pockets should be allowed on the board? Where are we going to find that person? The reason we are in this situation is because a previous majority shareholder was desperate to get out of the club and sold it to the only person who had the resources to buy his shares.

With all due respect - its the job of the Clubs Board of Directors to run a balanced budget and provide adequate funds for the Player Budget - its not the job of TJF ( in essence the Club Shareholder ) to do the Boards job for them - lets call this for what it is - its a begging bowl to make up for lack of cash for the January Transfer Window - it IS an exercise in tipping as much money into the Club as possible for the Board to spend as they please - there IS no clear lines of who is actually in charge - as TJF and the Board are joined at the hip - therefore Corporate Governance where Shareholders hold Boards to account is non existent - Weak Corporate Governance creates badly run Companies
we received £500K in “ investment” a few weeks ago - yet we are Crowdfunding in the run up to Xmas when Fans Money is tight to bolster the Managers Jan Transfer Window and somehow this is being spun as a positive - its not - its a desperate call for Fans to stick in cash
If the Board doesn't have enough money - make cuts - balance the budget - if they dont have the Business Skills to do that - the Shareholders remove them and get someone who can - thats Business
is TJF the shareholder are the Boards Enabler ? make your mind up
It's not TJF which called for donations to the player fund. That was the club. I don't see any problem in trying to raise additional funds for a better January window.

Thanks for your response WJ. Especially the second part. If this event has increased the membership of THF, then it probably has been worth it.

Not quite following, Scotty. I am suggesting that TJF have paid the club £87 per person(speculation)and are charging £30 per person. I am also assuming that the £30 doesn’t include entry to the ground as I guess most TJF members will also be ST members-again speculation.
I'm not saying that the money is not going to the club, though as we don't know how much is made from hospitality after overheads it will be more speculation as to how much. There is only a percentage of TJF members who will be able to benefit from this generous discount. I would be happier that any surplus THF have, went to the club rather than such a large amount going back to the members at this early stage.

I think TJF are paying the club more than the £30 they are charging the TJF members. How much more, I don’t know. However, let’s say they are paying the same as the discounted amount for the 2nd Jan game on itison, which is £87, I think.
Even at that it's still a discount of £57 per person. As I said in my original post I don't do hospitality so have donated to the player fund but I think some cash could have gone to enhance the playing budget. I still think it's too soon in the fan ownership journey for such generosity.

And presumably the wage bill was reduced when McCall and Scally took up roles at Clyde
I'm sure they were off the payroll before then. Ian McCall went on Off the Ball a few weeks ago saying he could now speak out as he was no longer being paid by Thistle.

I think TJF have bought it at the regular price(or maybe a special price)and are offering it to TJF members at a reduced price as a thank you.
Matchday hospitality according to the Thistle web-site is £105+VAT pp. It just seems a big discount.

I've just contributed to this but it got me thinking.
The Jags Foundation are offering hospitality to members in January for less than a third of what it usually costs. Is this going to cost the club or is the Jags Foundation subsidising it? Couldn't the hospitality have been priced a bit higher with some going to the manager to strengthen the squad? Seems like we shouldn't be patting ourselves on the back just yet.
Hospitality isn't my thing so I donated what I could have spent on it to the player fund.

I am pretty sure it used to be the case that your seat was reserved for cup games. It would be an issue if a game was particularly busy and some ST holders didn’t go.
It was the case up to a few seasons ago. Has there maybe been a change in the ticketing portal?

Does this free up the compensation he was getting from us, and if so, will the cash set aside for that go towards a January transfer budget? Has he given back that company car, so he,won't be advertising Thistle in Byres Rd? 😄
Pretty sure he has come to the end of his "gardening leave" so no cash remaining from him seeing out his contract.

"Still not following. Should the academy teams play at Firhill too ?"
Nope. I don't think I've seen anybody suggesting that (But why not, if feasible?) Given the general move towards promoting the women's game in particular, what's the problem with having them play their matches at Firhill?
See Woodstock Jag's response earlier in the thread.
