  1. Back home to Maryhill. Or at least have it as an OPTION until the New Year. No ifs, no buts. We NEED to win next week. Stirling albion have won three games this season - 2 against us. Back to back wins gives us a go at the next round, and might give us a bit of breathing space in the League.

    C'mon Thistle - I know you wanna!

Agreed, and Stirling have lost ten goals in their last two games with only one in reply, so there are no excuses next week.

  2. Totally agree it is a two way street and the players aren't delivering just now, but it is so frustrating that we go to Dundee and get right behind the team, but the atmosphere today in a potentially big game was totally flat before the team even came out.

Apologies to anyone in the 'Shed' who is not happy with my comments, you guys do give us that bit of noise. But I sit in the middle of the JH and honestly, you shout "Mon the Jags" and get looked at like you are interrupting quiet time in the library.

I'm sure a raft of football psychologists would tell you that a vocal and initidating home support gives you an edge - we just don't have that.

    Come on Jags!

By the way - I have just read McCall's comments and my initial post was totally independent of those

  3. Start of rant...and I know I may be preaching to the converted here...

The fans need to get their act together at Firhill - I've read so many posts bleating and whinging about McCall and team's performance etc etc. However, the fans were a total joke today - potentially a big match for us today and I was one of the few who clapped the team when it was read out, followed by the dismal atmosphere at the start of the game. Not a peep out of the JH stand throughout the game. Appreciate that things aren't great at the moment but the fans need to get behind the team - too many moan when the players don't put in effort but make no effort themselves. Guys like Paton and Boyle are knocking their pan in and the fans should be doing the same.

Come on folks, get behind the team!

    Rant over!!

  4. Dunfermline seem to be interested in a couple according to the press.

Wouldn't eb surprised if Morton get a couple. A bit ironic that Davie Rae of Morton was slagging Dundee off at the weekend for overspending. When you consider the attendances Morton are getting which are lower than ours they have for the last few years been considerably over spending with players and oruchasing Managers ie Irons from Gretna, Moore from Stirling Albion.

Apart from Falkirk, Dunfermline and previously Dundee they spend more than anyone else in the divison a bit of pot calling the kettle black from Rae's comments to an extent.

BBC Gossip Cokumn today says that Rae will consider his position at the end of the season if their crowds don't pick up

  5.

Also, so Pressley didn't like the way we played? stuff him, all that happened was that we played the same way every team that has come to Firhill in the past two years has played, starting with Ross County's glorious 0-0!

Andd also the way Pressley happily and effectively played for Scotland under Walter Smith. Pressley and and Houston are total hypocrites!

  6. 11-4 for a Jags victory with Stan James...

I know the rules state never bet the Jags but that is a decent price if there's any rule breakers amongst us. :thumbsup2:

Lol, last week we were all saying that a good price was available for Ross County!

  7. Superb performance from the players today - the biggest plus point for me today was that at no point did we look like losing a goal.

Worked hard, defence (including Bombscare) were solid and Jackie Mac was excellent in midfield. Flannigan does look a good player.

I seen someone in the other post knocking Liam and that's unfair. When he come on today, he played well and his little cameo in the corner at the end was brilliant.

Great day out - let's make it a seaso turner Jags!

  8. I mean in regards to the performance on the pitch. Today we didn't deserve to drop any points, nevermind all 3.

Agree wil 1JL - for those who made the trip to Palmerston today, I think they would agree we were unfortunate to lose - two superb strikes from Johnston and Quinn, the only difference in the end. The players worked their backsides off today and will start getting their results if they keep plugging away. Defended better today as well.

Fans were brilliant today, even despite the local Stasi. I was sitting down the front and the highlight for me was the old boy (70+) sitting in front of me. He was getting fed up with the Police trying to make the lads up the back sit down, so he got out of his seat and absolutely tore strips off the head steward, hilarious - top man.

Please get behind the team next week everyone - they fought hard today and we will turn this round!

  9. I've backed McCall to date in the hope he can turn it round but that was the final straw today - utterly depelorable.

Having spoken to a Morton and Falkirk fan about Albion, I knew how they were going to set-up today. Yet McCall with his army of staff couldn't figure it out. They were always going to play with one out and out frontman, so we respond by putting three at the back, leaving us a man short in midfield! Took him a full 45 mins to realise that and change it...and he took the wrong man in Balatoni off!

He also continually picks his pals every week. Buchanan hasn't kicked a ball in months and shouldn't start, simple as that. Similarly, Paton, for all his commitment, is a woeful player and McGeough should be given his turn. The logic of playng Maxwell is questionable and both Hodge and Bombscare are catastrophic players! Erskine is a headless chicken.

Worried and gutted by the lack of dig and effort. Only players I would give pass marks to this season are Doolan (a good striker, just needed a run), Boyle (for guts and determination to come back), and Halliwell (not done much wrong apart from at Raith). No fault on Stuart Bannigan who has fitted in well and McNamara who is just back from a long lay off. Sid has been ok too. Everyone else has been awful.

Don't know the solution but McCall's days are numbered and even he seems to think that, which is more worrying.

  10.

For now, I'd be happy for McCall to resign & for Lambie to take over till the end of the season (sadly never going to happen though). There's NO WAY the players wouldn't get a result at Cowdenbeath with him as manager. Motivation is a huge problem & I don't see how it can suddenly be changed.

Lol, was Lambie not the manager in charge when they dumped us out of the cup in 1992...even though they were the worst team in Scotland that year!

Take your point though, your 100% spot on. I have been a big McCall fan but he has let us down dreadfully of late

  11. Ross McGeough should start at right back on Tuesday night. While I respect Paton for his work rate and commitment, I dislike just about everything else about him. He is the prime example of a young Scottish player who thinks he is a soon to be superstar and doesn't bother trying to improve himself. His one-footedness has been a feature for three years at Firhill now and yet he can't see it in himself to improve. Scottish players don't exactly spend long in training and he should be putting afternoon after afternoon into working on his left peg. I really wouldn't be sad if I never seen him in a Thistle jersey again.

Go easy on Doolan though - he started very well with Thistle and seems to have faded away. However, it is hard for a striker to maintain a good standard when he gets one match, missess a week, gets 20 minutes then gets another 15 minutes etc. He needs a run before he can be written off.

As we all agree a season of mid-table mediocrity awaits, we need to trying out guys like MacBeth and Burns - they would benefit from playing alongside the likes of Jaggy Mac, Sid, and Rowser.

  12. When we signed Bryan Hodge last season, he came with a lot of promise and, after an injury disrupted start, seemed to be living up to that promise. He was excellent in that wee spell that we had between September and October last year. However, the day we went to Ross County in the driving wind and pouring rain, he had a poor match and was withdrawn around the hour mark. Since then, he has been awful, looking something akin to Darren Brady. He is slow, weak, and only passses backwards.

What does everyone think happened to him? And can he get some of his form back from early last season?

  13. I said before the game last week that we could still be up there and I continue to believe that. Except for 20 mad minutes last week, we actually played quite well.

As for today, gutsy and hard working performance from the players. Particular credit to Paddy Boyle who has shown real spirit to come back from being told he wasn't wanted to being one of our better players so far this season. Rowson and Cairney were also good today - considering our three man central defence left us a man short in midfield at times, you would have never have knwon the way those two ran.

Flannigan looks a fine player, comfortable with the ball at his feet and always looking for a man. Balatoni could be McCall's first good loan signing! Still not convinced with Paton though I'm afraid.

Grehan was good in the air and reasonable on the deck today and also tracked back well. Only small criticism I would have of him is that he is a bit slow to react sometimes. Paton put a cracking ball in towards the end of the first half and he failed to anticipate it, meaning he was beaten to it by a fraction. He needs to do the Hardie style gamble and just make a run hoping it gets into his area. Liam played well again today but needs to start finding the net.

As for the manager, a top decision to put the extra defender in today and I thought Maxwell was excellent - hardly seen Rat Boy all game

On a nice smug note, when I left Dens after our last game there last season, I was walking back to my car minding my own business when a Dundee fan (an older guy) unnecessarily came up to me and said "Haha, your team are shi*e and we'll no be seeing you next year"! I was furious because we totally outplayed them so many times last season and had a goal chopped off and penalty waved away in that game. I've been storing that sense of injustice up for a while so, if you happen to read this m8, welcome back to Firhill in the 1st Division and GIRUY on today's result!

  14. Well done to the JH stand for all applauding Ian McCaldon when he was announced as MoM - a well deserved accolade acknowledged by all. For those who weren't there, it was akin to Tuffey's performance against Inverness last season!

  15. Went to one a couple of months ago with Alan Rough and he was a disgrace - he seemed to think just shouting and swearing was really funny and the 300 person audience sat there completely flat...and he got £500 for the privelage.

You think with an extensive and eventful career like his, he would have had some good stories to tell!

  16. I understand it Hinchcliffes is so low he works elsewhere outside the club - maybe he is a professional pie eater or something.

I think Criag has his own business, he is (I think) a blacksmith or something like that in Cumbernauld

  17. You can have trialists for a short period in the league but not sure about the cup. I remember Nick McKoy playing as a trilaist for St J against us when we beat them 4-0. It's also Jeff Stelling's favourite joke...

Amateur terms for one week could be another option.

You can perhaps understand the dealy with Flannigan if the money is tight. However, the Halliwell situation is a joke - we've known for a while now that we need a keeper yet managed to find the money to sign four player-coaches. I'm not a board basher but that is wholly unacceptable

  18. I'm enjoying this World Cup! Delighted for Japan (as I'm currently residing there), and think they'll have a decent crack at it against Paraguay. There have been some superb goals. Can hardly wait for Portugal-Brazil tonight.

Portugal v Brazil is this afternoon - worth raising just in case you sit down to watch that game and Switzerland v Honduras appears on tne box :-)

  19. Fantastic news if they are hitting the skids, I can't think of a club who deserves it more! Even funnier that they paid out £1.3 million to finish 12 points adrift of Inverness and only three points ahed of the Pars.

We should all boycott Dens next season and donate the exorbitant entry fee to Thistle, just to put them in further trouble!

Dundee Utd should now offer them Scott Robertson for £500k for a laugh and watch Melville squirm!
