  1. Just a wee note to let you know about a couple of things...

Firstly, we're hosting a '45 Crash' @ The Brass Monkey on Wedesday 13th October (the night after Scotland beat Spain). This is an Oxjam event which raises funds for Oxfam. Basically it's a bring your own vinyl night with the chance to play your prized records in public, prizes for the 'cheesiest' vinyl, a 'Never Mind the Buzzcocks' style quiz (with prizes!)and lots more. Great cause and should be a lot of fun. I'm going to try and dig out my Tiger Tim record with 'We Are the Thistle' on it...

Also, for those who can't make the trip for the Semi next week, we'll have it on. Not sure I'll be able to tolerate the commentary, but the game will be on. Wives, girlfriends, boyfriends and dogs all welcome!

    Cheers!

  2. The quiz machine has gone, to be replaced by a puggy. Sort it out.

Apologies - nobody EVER played it! You can win £70 out of the puggy you know!

Also, Rock Night this Thursday 30th September! Get along and rock out! Lots of promos on too!

  3. Beautiful.

The Brass Monkey has quickly established itself as our bar of choice. And with a free drink; what could possibly go wrong.....

Will be there with bike on tow; part of the 'after work brigade'.

    Good news! See you then!

  4. seems like there is a few options worth considering (check out the thread ive started as well). maybe we should get a fans public meeting to thrash out some plan??

I'd be interested as well - think that it's the way forward for all clubs, especially the smaller clubs like ours.

  5. exactly.

i think a lot can be learned from looking at afc wimbledon and fc utd regardless of differences of situation. For instance, on the thread i started there was info from fcum regarding a way that they are using to raise money to build thier own stadium. thats a model of fundraising that we could possibly use for a fan takeover which, as alan herron has observerd, requires a structure like the jags trust to be activated.

i suspect a lot of information of value could be gleaned from one trip down to either of those teams - they are also very approachable and open to help.

as a completely hypothetical aside. if ptfc was to go bust - id rather take the chances with entering the english pyramid system with an fc thistle than go into the scottish system pyramid or no. why join the highland league (aka scottish football in general) when you could join the real thing (fa juristiction football). The fact that gretna have been able to go under both administrations at varying points in their history would set the frame for the arguments id be pursuing..

back to topic now we do need volunteers to get anything happening not just for chairman level. FCUM have 300 volunteers and you can see what capacity that gives them. how many have the jags trust had at their peak? how many has the club had at its peak?

I'm sure there is the basis of a good company on this forum. I for one would be happy to help regardless of the role.

  6. Yep - it's true!

We're holding a launch night this Thursday (16th) at The Brass Monkey for our new drinks list. As such, there will be free booze getting dished out in the name of sampling!

    So far, we'll have free...

Estrella Damm draught, cocktails, wine, Budvar bottles, St Mungo bottles plus much more!

All we ask is that you fill in a flyer with email etc to get a free drink! Simples!

Kicks off about 5pm for the after work brigade, live band - The Easy Orchestra - at 7pm then a DJ for the rest of the night. Will be some munchables too.

Hope to see a few of you there!

If anyone mentions Cowdenbeath or Stirling Albion you're getting flung out...

  7. We started off a wee Finnieston pub crawl in the Brass last night. My mates were very impressed. Tried the Half and Half and its soooperb. Had to have a pint of it at the end of the night so we started and finished in the Moonkey. Is the rock night still on GPT, if so whens the next one?

Good news! Glad you like it!

Hoping to do it monthly, but no date for next one as yet!

Will post on here when it's coming up - look for the pub on Facebook (The Brass Monkey Glasgow) and you can keep up with all the deals etc.

  8. All the HD hype makes me laugh. Folk with not exactly 20/20 vision will be kidding themselves it's great and getting stung a few quid for it. You can only see what you can see. What's next, VHD television ?

Disagree - HD does make a big difference! We've got two boxes in the pub - one HD and one not. When there are two games on at once and one is HD and one isn't you totally notice it!

Sky expensive, but unfortunately it's the best service available. If you like Spanish footy (I do) it's well worth it! Don't bother with the films though!

  9. Yep - shameless plug time!

Got the game on in HD with some drinks promos -

Bottle of Castle Lager from South Africa £2.50, bucket (5) Estrella Damm bottles £10, pint Estrella Damm £3.00.

We'll also be handing out free tapas and Estrella Damm at half time!

Hope to see some red 'n yellow in tonight!

    Cheers!

  10. Any deals for the World Cup Final?

    Funny you should ask...

We've got Castle Lager from South Africa for £2.50 a bottle for the duration of the World Cup! It's pretty tasty!

We may also come up with some other bits n bobs by then too - worth joining our FACEBOOK page to keep up to date!

  11. Dropped for Pedro!

    Ah well, nearly right!

What about Pedro's 'no pass' to Torres? Shocker. Especially when you consider me and my mate had £20 on Torres to score! Raging when he came on with 10 to go! Do coaches not know that their actions can really screw up chances of winning for simple punters like me?!?

  12. Sunday 18th July we're having a Bank Holiday Party at The Brass Monkey! We've gonna have some drinks promos on, tasty food and a live band - The Easy Orchestra! They played my wedding and were very good - first time I've seen a crowd demand an encore at a wedding!

I'll post further details soon, but it should be a good laugh and with no work the next day (for some) another reason for a Monday hangover!

    Cheers!!!!

  13. After another woeful performance against Paraguey, do you think Spain will drop Torres for the German game? So far they look like they've been playing with 10 men and if they do that against this German team they'll be hammered!

They looked so much better the other day when Fabregas came on.

Anyway, I'm supporting them to win it cos they play in red n yella!

  14. Nice touch with the Castle, is that on draft?

Afraid not - just in bottles. Don't think it's available on draught here. Pretty tasty tho and was damned hard to get hold of!!!

  15. Is it on this Thursday? If its not I'll probably be making a day of it in the BM for the world cup, how is the outside telly and smoking area going?

Cheap Red Stripe every Thursday or just with this rock night thing?

Not on this Thursday - going to start it as a monthly thing and see how it goes. Anyway, we're putting the sound on for the World Cup, so not much rockin' to do then!

The Red Stripe was only for the Rock night (and the 2 days before for licensing reasons), but we do have other promos on -

Pint Estrella Damm £3.00, Absolut & mix £2.00, small glass wine £2.50. Also, for the World Cup we have Castle Lager from South Africa for a mere £2.50 which is pretty good as you can't find it anywhere!

Outside good - tv works well and the beer garden is great if the weather is nice. Half close your eyes and you could be in Barcelona - until you hear some jake wandering by saying 'look at the mess they made of the Two Ways' etc...

  16. I'm still hoping that the phone is going to ring to let me know that I scooped all the prizes...

    Sadly not...

The air guitar competition for the Sonisphere tix was a hoot tho! Good night and will probably become a regular thing.

  17. We're having a ROCK music night this Thursday! Kicks off at 8pm.

Got some cracking giveaways - £100 Custom Inc tattoo vouchers, Orang micro guitar Amp, concert tickets (to be confirmed, but will be AWESOME for rockers...) and some Jagermeister stuff.

Drink promos on today - thurs are - Jagermeister £1.50, pint Red Stripe £2.50, pint Addlestones £2.20 & ABSOLUT vodka & mix £2.00.

    ROCK ON!!!

  18. Had my first Brass Monkey experience on Friday as we were doing a mini pub crawl in that area. Very impressed. Fair enjoyed the cider on draught...Addiestones? We will be back!!!

Yep - Addlestones it is! Lovely & cloudy.

Glad you enjoyed it - we aim to please!
