Let's wait and see the full decision. Not surprised really with regard to the relegation. Compensation not ruled out yet. Whatever happens our legal fees are covered so we gave it our best shot. Can ask to more.

Reading spfl statement suggests we get absolutely nothing.

  2. Hi,

My wife is clearly plotting some sort of Christmas present with a Thistle slant. She is asking me for a high resolution picture of an empty Firhill (queue numerous jokes about Firhill always being empty these days).

I have had a look and I am struggling to find any online without a watermark etc. Was just wondering if anyone has one and if so would you be good enough to send to me/post here please?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

They bought Nice - sold it at  X5 the money they bought for it - so they obviously arent daft - and less of I dont know what Im talking about as though you are some sort of Business Guru

So answer how TFE managed to get in contact with Colin Weir and convince him very very quickly to Fund there takeover - yet he wouldnt talk to David Beattie ?

Could be any of the following I suppose:

Someone at TfE might know Colin weir personally/they tried harder than mr Beattie/they went to visit his house/they kept ringing him til his mobile melted/harassment! Who knows.

Its also entirely possible that the removal of JLow pissed off Colin weir and he decided he just didn’t want to deal with the current board. If so, like it or not, that’s his decision to make.

I don’t see why it’s so important as to how they got in contact with him. He may even have approached them?  The fact is TfE have his significant financial backing.

I would much rather find out more about what any potential fan ownership model would look like, how it would run, how regularly the board would be elected/reviewed and quite frankly, if we become fan owned, if there is anything I can contribute to try and help make out club as successful as possible.

He’s doing relatively well at Clyde I think there’s a few with red and yellow glasses on regarding Danny - they are 6th in league one and they got promotion from league 2, but had the highest budget in that division.

he did win the league cup which rightly should give him legendary status at st Mirren park but his league positions with st Mirren were not that great- finished 11th a couple of times when there were no playoffs then.

didnt have a great time at Alloa. Also surprised he has kept goodwillie and ally love - 2 players I hope we would not look to employ at Firhill.

i think we have got the better end of the deal- McCall knows Partick Thistle as well as Lennon, knows the championship far better than Lennon.  While McCall is prepared to leave the team top of the division to join us at the bottom, while Lennon is not so keen to leave the team 6th in league one to a bigger team playing in a higher division IMO that McCall cares more and wants to manage us more than Lennon does.

while he most certainly was not a Partick Thistle supporter when he was young (Danny probably wasn’t either) I genuinely think he is now - it’s well known that his son has a season ticket as well.

when was the last time we actually had a Partick Thistle supporter as manager? Or was Alan Archibald one?

Couldn’t tell you who Archie grew up supporting but think it’s fair to say he is Thistle through and through now. He’s from possil I think, so every chance he at least went to a few games growing up.

Logically speaking - given we are at the end on a transfer window and perhaps still 2 players short of a full squad, asking 2 players to leave who in my opinion want to play and contribute to a successful Thistle team seems short sighted and will leave us unable to replace the quality lost.  Resulting in 4 players short.

Im not one to bang the “Caldwell out” drum however if this is true and plays out this way it seems “healthier” for the club as a whole to bring someone else in who knows how to work with strong personalities within a dressing room. We have a good squad who seem to fall into losing games from winning positions - in my opinion thats more about tactics and game management than the ability of the players on the park.

will be absolutely gutted if this plays out.

This sums up my feelings entirely.

Im sitting here thinking what sort of absolute moron decides to bin 2 first team players, one the (former) captain, on the eve of the transfer window closing, purely to preserve his “power” in the dressing room. Only answer I can come up with is one that isn’t strong enough to carry a team with him and when is challenged ships them out, rather than winning them over. That is the sign of a poor manager.

If true , this has become all too common and we are going to be left with a weaker squad, at the bottom of the table, and much worse off than this time last year. Bye Gary.

  6. So from a distance it appears that:

we have managed to get rid of a wealthy benefactor, who has an affinity for the club, who has already invested 2.5m with a further £6m set aside for a training ground (which has admittedly run into issues so who knows if it would ever materialise).

We are now hoping to replace this investment with that of some sort of venture capital firm, who may or may not put in additional cash, with no previous association with the club, who Seemingly want to use us as a Barnsley feeder club.

Of those 2 investment options there is only 1 that you would pick. I appreciate this is a simplification, but it seems so apt for Thistle to have so spectacularly cocked this up.

I see from the BBC that some multi millionaire is looking to buy Falkirk and turn them into a Premiership competitive club. Why all this interest in buying Scottish clubs and they can’t all get the success that they promise, so what happens when their world domination plans fail ?

Ayr and united seem to be bankrolled by Americans. Hasn’t done them much good. I totally agree if we all get a wee smattering of wealthy guys’ pocket money, then nobody will be any better off. Would take serious investment to make a difference and who in their right mind is going to do that, other than a euromillions winner.

Freddie Frans has been completely banished by Neilson

    Please come home Freddie

That’s what happens when you throw about stupid money on 2 and 3 year contracts in The championship. Hopefully they are feeling the pinch already, and he will be the first of many to leave.

No idea if true or not but I heard he was considering chucking football and going back to Belgium to change career. Would be a shame if true.

Thought that was the best we’ve played so far this season. You can certainly see Caldwell’s game plan of building from the back in action although it does give rise to the odd risky moment.

Ad an aside my 5 yr old has been let in free of charge for both away ties but have to pay for him at Firhill. Not sure if that’s Queen’s Park and Hamilton behind that or the generosity of the turnstile guys.

It’s definitely generosity of the turnstile guys. Had to pay in both my 5 and 6 year olds.

He would be worth more in January or next summer .... basic negotiation is to get more bidders to drive up the price or play hardball on not selling  ... we roll over and get our tummy tickled

And how does it look to the rest of the youngsters, or potential young players considering joining us, with hopes of making the big time, if we stand in the way of a huge move.

Fitzpatrick is moving to an EPL team. If we play hardball for an extra £100k/£150k and the move collapses, that could have a much bigger impact longer term. We can’t manufacture bidders, we have to wait and see what offers there are.

We have to demonstrate that our youth structure provides a path to the first team, which it clearly does, and then a springboard to a big move if you are good enough.

  11. Certain elements in our club’s recent history have been fairly divisive, be it Archie’s stay or go scenario, peoples’ views on the board and a possible takeover, the treatment/perceived treatment of Erskine and Doolan or the function of the Trust to name a few.

We are a club rich in history, albeit mediocre most of the time. That doesn’t matter. We are the wee fish in the big, murky Glasgow pond. We are not glory hunters. We are not often in crowds of many thousands. We very rarely make it to Hampden and don’t get to follow Thistle in Europe more than once a generation.  What that does though, is make success even more special when It arises.

We know we won’t sign world beaters. We don’t expect players to be perfect. We do expect them to give their all for our team, bust a gut, and show us they want to ply in our Red and Yellow (or rainbow stripes!). If they do that, we will stand by them. If they have to have a bit of eccentricity along the way, then even better.

While watching Thistle certainly ages you, it also keeps you young at heart. The memories, the good times we have all been part of in Firhill, Peterhead, Forfar, love street, Forthbank to name a few. We all crave that bit more success, of course we do. We all know supporting Thistle is much more than that though. It’s about loyalty, family, friends, passion, hope, fear, disappointment and just sometimes that unforgettable moment of glory.

Think back a few years to that championship wining team. The togetherness of the support and the team, the victories the team ground out, and the atmosphere the supporters generated in return. Just one of a number of memorable periods to be a Jag.

When you put everything to one side - all of the personal squabbles and individual shortcomings, every one of us wants to be part of something special involving Thistle.

Sometimes football can be far too serious. I for one would love there to be a game this season where we sell out Firhill. A full stadium where we all raise the roof, uninterrupted, for 90 minutes. Let’s pick a game - Not because we are playing Morton, Dundee or whoever it may be in a league game, but because we want to get together and celebrate our club.

It would take a bit of work for us all, encouraging friends and family who have lapsed, occasional attendees and maybe even some newbies to come along to one, specific game. I for one would be up for the challenge, what about you?

Well said  as well as the Lindsay money was there not talk that only a third of the budget for January, add that in etc and I’d like to see the club at least make an offer - all he can do is say no

Which I think he did last year. When we were probably a more appealing option than now, and before his reputation had grown even more.

Andy - I have no axe to grind and have no inside knowledge, but purely from a property perspective, the land really isn’t easily developable, nor is it located in a particularly desirable area. If a property developer had cash to spend and this was really only about the land, then there are dozens of better, cheaper and easier sites to pick.

I said in my earlier post, I really can’t fathom why a wealthy overseas investor would be interested. Some have said it’s to assist in building a stable of feeder clubs to bring through players for sale, but I can’t see why Scotland (where decent fees are a rarity) or why PTFC, which is languishing in the second tier. I would have thought that there are other more attractive options which would be higher profile and not cost any more to buy.

Others seem to know more than I do,  so I’l wait to see what happens, but if it really is all about the land, then they are completely clueless when it comes to property development.

I agree with pretty much all of what you say.

The only reason I can think of, and it’s a bit of a long shot, is that they think the Scottish market is undervalued.

I think the model would have to be that we hoover up the best young Scottish talent we can, the best get sold on to Barnsley and they hope to make a profit from selling on in an inflated English market. They will be hoping for another Andy Robertson/Kieran Tierney. They are more likely to get anothe Liam Lindsay if they are lucky.

That is the only possible reason I can think of for all of this, if it is even true in the first place.

because what I knew or didnt know wasnt the point - the Club had a duty to communicate with its Fans ?

The more of your posts I read, the more convinced I become that, for whatever reason, you simply want rid of the current Board and are prepared to portray things in a certain way to make them look bad. That just detracts from your arguments to be honest.

  15. I can t help feelign this story might just end in the same way this did:

    https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/12202426.ska-singer-sees-hope-for-thistle/

A big part of me would love to see a serious (and responsible!) investor come in and build a stronger club over a few seasons.

There is another part of me that says we would be selling our footballing soul for a short term roll of a dice, whcih history shows is unlikely to amount to anything, and if we do have a few successful seasons (say Europe) we will almost certainly catastrophically implode shortly afterwards.

If anyone is going to throw a bit of money about, it needs to be sustainable, and not contingent on a single person/couple fo people, who could up sticks at any time. What has really impressed me about the way the Weirs' money has been used, is that is has been done this way.

We are too small to have a sugar daddy play a game for 2 or 3 years and then get bored - we would simply go bust. It needs to be planned investment, over a mid-term period, with a plan of self-financing along the way. Anything other than that is equivalent to going out, having a belter of a night getting massively pissed, going on a winning at the casino, then losing it all in a taxi on the way home and having a 2-day hangover.
