It's never been confirmed how much it was. Any value suggested is just a guess.

Maybe so, but that is the case for virtually every transfer. Not sure how many clubs come out and explicitly says we got this much. I’m not sure what your point is? Should we just not mention transfer fees?

in the absence of a clear statement I wil go with the amount Lindsay is quoted as saying of £350k.

Where has it been said we got 450k for Liam?

Pretty sure that’s what I remember hearing quoted at the time.

Will bow to your superior knowledge though if I’m wrong. How much was it?

Liam was also quoted in the record as saying it was £350k.

Is there an investment opportunity for someone like the Weirs ?

Do a deal with the Egyptian mob .... sign him on a 2 year deal where he scores a bucket load for us .... sell him after 1 year for more than it cost

There May be issues with 3rd party ownership, but if I had a spare $2m then I might be interested

I assume this was tongue in cheek?

if not - We got £450k for a young defender, with bags of potential, the right build for the English leagues, could contribute goals and who made the SPL team of the year.

There is absolutely zero prospect of anyone paying us more than a £200-300k for a striker in the championship. I’m not sure what shankland will end up going for but I’d be amazed if it’s more than this.

To suggest you’d make profit on an investment of $2m is wild.

Regardless of how poor we may get. We won't get relegated. If a decision is made further down the line regarding Archie, it will be made in plenty of time.

I would actually give Archie a bit longer, til day earl December and see how we do once the transfer window is shut and the team gels. That said, the attitude we won’t get relegated is a very dangerous one to have. We have seen it far too often before, so how you can say that is beyond me. I just hope the board don’t have that attitude!

McDonalds business plan does not rely on the occasional customer who comes in every few months for a "treat". They want people (children) to have the McDonald's habit. Go in to any outlet just after the schools come out and they are packed. Parents take their children as a reward for "good" behaviour, as an easy way of getting their children to eat or as an affordable "treat". The happy meal toys are no more than an enticement to encourage repeat business. Going for a McDonalds is becoming a regular event for many families and is an insidious change in eationg habits which is unhealthy.

I would rather Thistle did not use McDonalds as an income stream, especially for a project aimed specifically at children.

I take my kids for the occasional McDonald’s. I know it’s crap that they are eating, just as it is when I am running in the door at 5.30 and the quickest thing to cook for tea is sausage and beans. There is plenty of unhealthy food being bought in supermarkets on a far more regular basis.

I appreciate the point you are making, but we play in a league sponsored by a bookie, have had plenty games shown on sky (who you could argue have dubious morals), were sponsored by a hedge fund, pretty sure we have/had carlsberg and Greggs advertising around the ground....

there are lots of things which might not sit well with everyone, but I don’t think McDonald’s is any worse than anything mentioned above, and Scottish football is a long long way from being able to take moral high ground when it comes to advertising, so to be quite frank, I am happy to take their sponsorship money.

There is no evidence to date that storey  is a regular goal scorer

Agreed, however he offered something completely different on Tuesday.

If we were playing a team who use attacking fullbacks I would think he would do a decent job at pinning one of them back and will definitely cause defences a lot of problems at this level.

Fair point. Archie has tho' said on numerous occasions when signing a player that so much scrutiny goes into checking out the character of the player in question. Specially in relation to the player fitting in with the rest of the squad. Using that process obviously greatly reduces the chances of friction within the squad. I think the togetherness factor was obvious in the five seasons preceding the one just gone.

Naturally there's going to be the odd exception to the rule and as you rightly say futuristic mind-reading is impossible. What I find rather surprising was the use the plural. That, and as I point out no ex-players (loanees excepted) appear to be unaffected by relegation.

Have to assume muzzy was another one, given he allegedly did, or was ready to, walk out on a match day.

Embarrassed into buying the service they cried out for and were given? Too late for that.

Perhaps only 10% of the Facebook page “cried out” for it.

Fair to say that the coming season isn't exactly being looked forward to with breathless anticipation. A management team that should have been binned and barely a five a side team to put on the park.

    Well there’s optimism for you!

  10. Watching the Motherwell game the other night, they had fighters all over the park, never stopped closing down, never gave Aberdeen a minute on the ball. We allow teams to play and ultimately score. Next week we will surrender possession every time because when were closed down we don't know what to do and kick it away as quick as we can.

Its time to stop using the 'wee team' excuse. Its Archie's job to find a way to win. Take a leaf out of Hamilton and Motherwell's books. Keep the ball out of our half and attack because we certainly cant defend. Until then we will continue to drop points and we will be lucky to stay up this year

Pretty harsh given we finished above both those teams last season, and that was with (another) honking start to the season.

I know we are on a horrendous run without a win, but be arent getting gubbed by teams and I have every confidence we will go on a good run soon. I think bannigan in for Barton would make a big difference just now.

  11. I also don't particularly like what the visitors bring (although I think that Celtic fans are better than the other lot)

I always used to think this was the case. Seems to have changed over the last few years though to the point where both sets of their fans piss me off equally.

Not sure if that's because I am older and (unfortunately) wiser to the pro IRA bile and songs about getting their country back. Might also have something to do with the green brigade popularising the nonsense.

And as for those pathetic smoke bombs when they score, why aren't these people hauled out by the police immediately? It's pretty clear where the smoke originates from - remove them, fine them and ban them from all future games. Problem solved.

Dunno if anybody is SO excited, but when you're dying of thirst, even a thimble of water will give you hope...

Young guy, bit of experience, strong, quick - maybe he's not rattled them in like Messi, but he has potential. Prefer someone who's played in the league, and scored, than (yet) another unknown from the murky depths.

If he signs, great - still room for one more though!

    Couldn't agree more!

  13. Nisbet seems to be having a good game.Hope this could be a turning point for him.He is a Thistle player afterall,so we want him to do well.

Couldn't agree more. If he's pish after 10-15 starts then fair do's, but he is a young boy, brought through the youth ranks. Can't for the life of me understand why everyone is so quick to write him off. Why don't we try and encourage him?! Let's see if Archie and co can coach him a bit and help him develop.

Still think we need to sign another striker, but I would love nisbet to get a few goals for us while he is in the team to boost his confidence.

  14. Is Maxi not our "Director of Football"? Different title using "Managing Director" but effectively runs football opetations at club including involved in targets and signings and is link between manager and board. A lower profile and better image but similar role.

I could well be weong but I always thought that maxi's role was a bit broader. He is clearly involved in the footballing side, but seems to have a pretty wide remit, particularly on the commercial side, as well as the "political" aspect of dealing with the SPFL.

I would expect a director of football to concentrate almost exclusively on the football side and therefore probably me a lot more hands on.

  15. Penrice has apparently been playing as a central defender in some of the bounce games we have had

I'm surprised by that. On the couple of occasions that I have seen him it was his crossing ability that stood out. He was pretty lightweight as well from memory.

  16. Of course we Would love to sign him. Every club in Britain would take him. There is absolutely 0 prospect of us signing him though.

Where is it being suggested btw? I would ignore that source from now on.
